I dunno about JDub urban myths, but Christendom itself (well, the Pentecostal end, anyway!) has a large repertoir of such things:

Urban Legends!
by ISP inits amazing the extent these circulate in the wt world.
i am not so sure, but it develops a powerful folklore amongst jws....often with a moral at the end!
typically these circulate as experiences given in talks and are then adopted by the masses as truth.. for example, anyone hear the ul about the married couple where the wife had to have a routine blood check.

Mixed Signals

as usual it shows how bad the internet is by narrating how computer networks are increasingly the target of "terrorist" activity.

May 22 Awake! has typical article on terrorism; trouble is sign of imminent end, etc, etc. As usual it shows how bad the internet is by narrating how computer networks are increasingly the target of "terrorist" activity. But in the "Young People Ask..." section, on keeping in contact with your (JW!) grandparents, "Dara" is quoted saying "They take an interest in my life, and we call or E-mail each other almost every week". Not only does this quote encourage young people to use email, it shows elderly people as being quite capable too! It could be argued that the editorial comment "E-mail and phone calls have their place, but don't underestimate the power of an old fashioned hand-written letter" means that they are arguing against use of email, but phone calls too? Since when has the 'Tower ever discouraged use of the phone?
So what's going on here? More Brooklyn hypocrisy? Or is there some factional battle going on within the Writing Department? Or am I reading too much into it?

What Should I Say?

outnfree:
Do you just want to yank their chains, so to speak? or do you really want to effect some good? You're right; I was genuinely interested in what I can say to get them thinking, but got carried away with the "chain yanking" or "piss taking" stuff (Fred should be obscene and not heard!). I don't really know how to approach the subject properly anymore. It often turns into a "My religion is better than yours" shitfight rather than anything productive; I just see those stupid pictures and captions on the magazine covers and go into "How stupid is that??" mode!
The bottom line is: yes I do want to do some good, but how?
BTW, the guy has already been today, and dropped off the "latest" magazines, May (if those're the latest, then why are articles from June mags being already quoted here? Do apostates have quicker access to "the truth" or something??) He'll be back, probably tomorrow, if he can find some April mags. And no, I didn't take the piss out of him when he came!

What subject should I bring up? The paedophilia issue? The backwards growth in the west (-1% last year here in Oz)? Change in blood doctrine? Re-organisation of the 'Tower? Shunning? The calibre of such able WT personnell as Fred Hall (I personally think it's wonderful that they are reraching out to the developmentally challenged like that and making them feel useful! About the only positive mark on their score card, IMO)? Any other suggestions?

The Judge SHAVED Jesus, Peter, Adam, ...

Da Judge was never one to let truth get in the way of a good yarn. That pic of the Judge always reminds me of WC Fields; they both had the same attitudes to alcohol and children, although the Judge can't be excused 'cause he actually had child!

Taking time to smell the roses...
by Esmeralda ini got a great gift today from someone at h2o.
it was a post.
in response to my "emotional bankruptcy" thread that i. posted here, and there as well.. it's a gift because it was just the kick in the ass that i needed.. the perfect reminder of why i am not only happy, but relieved.

I don't know who this elder25 is (he sounds like a compilation of every trite piece of self-congratulatory crap the WT puts out), or what he thinks he's achieving. I think he's likely to have the same effect on every exDub that he had on you, Esmeralda, galvanising their resistance rather than bringing everyone flooding back begging for the favour of the gods of Brooklyn!
I'm sorry to hear you're suffering so badly today, and also sorry that such a dickhead would email you such a load of false comfort. I hope your suffering eases soon, Esmeralda!

My friend (who looks pretty rough) walked up to them and gestured to the older lady "You - ***k off! then to the younger one "You- get inside!" Needless to say they both left rather quickly...
I think this is a good precedent. So: "Fred - ***k off!" (But leave your sister here [ that is, if you've finished with her yourself!])

which will their downfall first KH"S or th...
by nojw86 inafter reading silentlamb post today, i was shocked to find out that 23,ooo elders stepped down in 3 years, which leads me to believe that others in cong.
would wonder as to wants going on within their cong.
then questions are to rise within the cong.

Stephanus
Yep, you can't run an empire without taskmasters to whip the slaves into line. Of course the problem is that the elders stepping down are probably doing so because they have consciences; one assumes their replacements will be more willing to toe Brooklyn's line. Heck, maybe they'll be so desperate for elders they'll make Fred one; Lock up your children, everyone! :(
