Got it in one. Pointing out that a JW is not going to vote for a certain proposal is like pointing out a vegetarian who won't eat a certain brand of hotdogs. You'd think (hope!) a reporter wouldn't be so easily sucked in, wouldn't you?

Note this little quote from a JW:
"I don't drink liquor and I don't think we need it here," added another Thomaston resident Ceon Velenseay, explaining she is a Jehovah Witness. "Well, now let me tell you something girly, too many folks get hurt from it and I won't vote for it."
Can anyone else see the obvious flaw in this quote (beyond a tea-totalling JW, of course!)?

A success story, thanks to YOU!
by Kathy inwell, here's an update.
thanks to all of you, my boyfriend's sister is seeing the light!
if you remember, we were trying to dissuade her from joining the jw's... becoming baptized, whatever.

This is extremely good news. Chalk another one up for the apostates. This is what it's all about - not doing a Samson on the whole structure at Bethel, but rather, like the Allies at the end of WWII, taking Berlin block by block. Every one person who starts to think and question without Watchtower "aids" is a major setback to the org.

August km re media reports
by expatbrit innot sure if this has been highlighted on the board, but in the august km there's an interesting paragraph in the front page article "you are a theatrical spectacle":.
sometimes the media publish reports about the activities of jehovah's people.
while we appreciate good reports that are factual and fair in dealing with our work, we also expect bad reports to be spread by our detractors from time to time.

I'm amazed at how subtle the bastards are. When the SilentLambs stuff first hit the fan there were predictions of all sorts of things being said about paedophilia by the org including KMS acting skits about how to handle questions at the door about paedophilia. Instead of highlighting the paedophilia, they've simply said that anything negative about the org is from you-know-who. It may well be marginally effective, as this tactic has been in the past, but for how long? At least without the KMS roleplaying practice, there at least may be some hard questions asked at doors which may give momentary pause to the R&F. Hopefully the Dateline article will influence people who've been harbouring fears about "raising their hand against the Lord's annointed" (is that phrase ever used by Dubs? It was in my old Pentecostal church whenever I questioned leadership) to come forward and expose the dark deeds that are being covered up in the name of Jehovah's "clean" organisation.

"Vindication," New Light
by Maximus inneed some help.. growing up, i was ceaselessly taught that everything jws do in preaching is because of "the issue.
" the issue is the "vindication" of jehovah's name.. at some point the publications ceased this teaching, with an almost casual watchtower reference to the fact that 'obviously jehovah's name does not need to be vindicated.
' keen students were surprised that no major article appeared to lay out this change.. i don't have the tools to follow this up, so could i impose on someone to fill me in with citations?

JWs really hate popery.
I feel that this needs qualification. IMO the JWs LOVE Popery; they just hate it in any other religion! LOL

JWs: They Don't Make 'Em Like They Used To
by Room 215 inone thought for long-time dubs..... the wts's interminable bragging about their ``spiritual paradise'' and ``nation of ministers'' aside, there are signs that the leadership is hip to the flagging commitment on the part of the rank and file.
notice how the summer district conventions have shrunk over the years.
what would the attendance figures would look like if the gb tried to revive the old practice of eight-day assemblies, with sessions lasting until 9:00 p.m. every day?

The R&F certainly ain't what they used to be - only 5 years ago they were fearless and polite at the door. Now they either run like frightened bunnies or get abusive when you start asking the hard questions (i.e. anything not pushed by the WBTS).

*** w95 5/15 25 Flashes of Light-Great and Small (Part 2) ***
17 Similarly, for a long time, Witnesses spoke of the vindication of Jehovah’s name. But had Satan called Jehovah’s name into question? For that matter, had any of Satan’s agents done so, as if Jehovah did not have a right to that name? No, not at all. It was not the name of Jehovah that was challenged and that needed to be vindicated. That is why the Watch Tower Society’s recent publications do not speak of Jehovah’s name as being vindicated. They speak of Jehovah’s sovereignty as being vindicated and of his name as being sanctified. This is in keeping with what Jesus told us to pray: “Let your name be sanctified.” (Matthew 6:9) Time and again, Jehovah said that he was going to sanctify his name, which the Israelites had not challenged but had profaned.—Ezekiel 20:9, 14, 22; 36:23. -

Why Do They Bother?
by Stephanus inon another thread, i was struck with a thought.
someone mentioned how brainwashed the r&f were to accept the drivel pumped out of bethel and it suddenly dawned on me that the 'tower and the awake!
and all the other literature are irrelevant.

On another thread, I was struck with a thought. Someone mentioned how brainwashed the R&F were to accept the drivel pumped out of Bethel and it suddenly dawned on me that the 'Tower and the Awake! and all the other literature are irrelevant. No-one becomes a 'Tower adherent by reading the stuff on their own; even if they decided that the WBTS was the visible org of God, they'd still have to go through the 6 month indoctrination process. There is the urban myth about the garbage man who stumbles upon the 'Tower in a bin (kinda symbolic, I feel!) and becomes a dub (that's an urban myth which is over a hundred years old in mainstream Christendom. In that version a page of the Bible blows overboard from a ship and onto a nearby island where the natives then convert to Christianity), but we all know that he went through the "free Bible study" route before he got baptised.
So again I ask the question, why on Earth do they print this stuff???

Greg Stafford and the 'Tower
by Stephanus ina thought stimulated by another thread: if it is true that the wbts are bankrolling greg and his cronies' "scholarship" concerning the abominable nwt, why don't they go one step better?
since greg and co are so well versed in biblical languages and are continuously critiquing the renderings of various verses by various versions, why doesn't the 'tower go one step further and finance a revision of the nwt.
none of the original "translators" are alive to protest, the r&f won't protest the change because they never do and greg and co could discretely massage the parts of the nwt which constantly come under fire while retaining the 'tower's spin.. keep up the good work, dunscot; you and your fellow scholar fred hall are all the apostates need to remind themselves that they were right to leave!

Don't forget the hangers-on (memorial attenders). Also, there'll have to be a new concordance, a new Kingdom Interlinear and so on; all which the R&F will be required to have in their theocratic library.
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ indeed!!
