One of my fantasies is that if I should win big bucks in Powerball or some such, I'd buy Beth Sarim and make it a museum to Dubdom and a place for apostates and other interested ones to stay and "chill". One of the first acts of us apostates would be to excavate the bit of the property where da Judge is rumoured to be buried. What to do if we find his remains? Do we alert the authorities that we've found a body and spark off a murder investigation which drags Bethel into it, kicking and screaming? Do we sell pieces of da Judge's bones to the faithful as relics, like the Catholics did in mediaevel times? Do we just stick his skeleton in the hallway as a kind of hatrack for visitors to dump their damp raincoats on while browsing the displays of precious Dubdom memorabilia?

Where is "the Judge" buried?
by CatholicGuy inone of "judge" rutherford's last wishes was to be buried at his beloved "beth-sarim," the house that was built in san diego to house the "princes" that would rule the earth after armageddon.
the local authorities would not permit his burial there and the jws started quite a campaign in _consolation_ (later _awake!_) to have his wishes fulfilled.
witnesses even circulated petitions door to door (a lot of the "kingdom preaching" hours in 1942 was time spent circulating petitions to submit to authorities to allow the judge's burial at beth-sarim.

UN involvement announced at Assembly?
by Simon ini heard from someone that the wts was going to or had already announced something about the un involvement at an assembly.
anyone else heard of this or is it a local thing ?.
i would guess they may have only done this because of the coverage in the uk national newspaper which they know they have to counter.

Damage control...the WBTS is good at it.
Is that because they are so good at damage, i.e. shooting themselves in the foot?

The bible speaks of counting the cost before you make decisions. If you have all the children you can handle, or you just don't want any, I think that is a very personal choice.
Not long ago the Tower frowned upon having kids in a doomed system; the time is short and all that. These "permanent" methods of contraception would surely have seemed ideal back then. How does the Watchtower reconcile its two positions on this issue - the idea that it's not worth having kids but you shouldn't take a permanent step towards making that choice?
Has the anti-kids dogma been dropped due to the fact that Watchtower growth is now from birth rather than conversion?

Curious about this; the vasectomy thread has revealed further confirmation of the Tower's weird and wonderful approach to medical treatment. What is the attitude of the average Dub towards contact lenses instead of glasses? A display of vanity? What about laser surgery to correct short-sightedness?

had a vasectomy years before the borg it came up in a conversation one day with my my bible study (ha)conductor and he said it made no difference what i did before i came into the truth in that respect
That's an interesting answer, Jedd. I wonder if they'd say the same thing to someone who's had a sex change operation? Is there any specific mention of such a problem, i.e. a transexual wishing to join the Dubs, mentioned in the literature?

Suspension of privileges seems to be the punishment the above article mentions for getting one done. How long does such a suspension last, usually?

Population BOOM!
by nicolaou inlet's assume that there are about 9,000,000 armageddon survivors (baptised jw's and their children), after just 30 years every survivor will be sexually mature and with increased vigour and health.. .
chemical contraception, condoms, i.u.d's etc will all be long gone so any married couple with a normal sex-drive will be producing children at an average rate of about 1 per year.. .
world population at the beginning of the 20th century was less than 1.5 billion.

Your assumptions are flawed, Nicolaou. Population growth is in decline in the West, where the raising of children is seen to be a liability. In the Third World, where children are seen as an asset, your retirement benefits if you like, population growth is still very high. But even in the third world, population growth is slowing; people tend to have as many kids as they believe they can afford to support, no matter where they are. For a good resource on this subject see:
http://www.overpopulation.com/How this bears on the Dubs' vision of Paradise is irrelevant, because the whole thing is an illogical fantasy.

I understand the Tower frowns upon vasectomy as a contraceptive method. Does it outright ban it? How would they treat a new convert who has already had one, before he studied with the Dubs?

ARE WE FRIENDS OR ARE WE MORE?
by Serena ini am so confused about this guy that i have been secretly talking to on the phone and secretly going to his apartment(only at nighttime).
he is a jw, ofcourse--if he wasn't i'm sure i would not have this confusion.
he flirts with me,touches me an chance he gets(on the shoulder or the knee) and i know he likes me more than friendship(or maybe he doesn't, who knows?).

You're encountering what every single woman who's had an affair with a married man has encountered, Serena. An affair is a win-win situation for the bloke; he has his wife who raises his children and cooks and cleans for him, etc. who waits at home for him, and he has his lover who allows him to feel a whole lot of passion and adrenalin he probably hasn't experienced for a while in his day to day marriage routine. The lover always hopes that he will leave his wife and marry her, but when push comes to shove, the deck is totally stacked against her; the husband doesn't want to totally ruin his life, lose his kids, so even if the affair comes to light, he'll seek the forgiveness of his wife and jettison the lover. Your boyfriend is playing the same game; he is "married" to the Watchtower, he draws his identity from it and is loyal to it. You represent a way to have his cake and eat it - you help him meet his physical needs but your status as an outsider puts less pressure on him to do the right thing about your relationship. If found out he can show suitable repentance and be reconciled to the Org, while you are left out in the cold; he'll drop you in a second if he has to choose between the passion he feels with you and the security he feels with the Org. Many women feel they can reform men, but it rarely works. Your best chance at reforming him is not going to his house at night and asking him if he will do the right thing and openly acknowledge your relationship to his family and friends. If he doesn't then it's not you he loves, but the feelings he get's while with you.

Hmmmm, it makes you think! I imagine until Bill spat the dummy about the way paedophiles are harboured by the org, the BOE at his congregation muddled through life like any other elders; the correspondence and communication they handled would be the normal form letters from HQ and instructions from the CO. How things must have changed! They'll be getting large numbers of instructions, mainly verbal, straight from Bethel - I bet they've all had phone conversations with senior members of the legal department. Until Bill put them on the map, they just had the usual mundane experience of most Dub elders. They should be thanking him for spicing up their dreary lives, not trying to get him!
