48% Capacity at Kingdom Halls - A post on reddit
by berrygerry inthere was a letter read this week, followed by a talk about all the changes that are coming in the next couple of months regarding merging congregations in the area (va/md/dc) - the letter said that the kh's in the area are only being filled to 48% capacity.
this was music to my ears as i have noticed the decline in attendance in all the neighboring congregations.
they will sell some kingdom halls and merge some congregations.

This is why they stopped announcing and posting the attendance. They still have records for the CO, included in the attendance are the people listening at home; sometimes quite a few.

Crossing the Elders
by Cold Steel infew things draw my interest as much as people on this board who talk about the elders, the insidious little toadies who lurk around kingdom halls, the proverbial big fish in little ponds.
it amazes me the terror and the veneration they inspire, as well as the occasional ridicule.
it makes me wonder how they're selected and whether most of them come into the position with a sense of power, entitlement, authority and control, or whether many of them are pretty nice people and that i'm just hearing about the bad apples?

cofty3 hours ago3 hours ago4 hours agoAbusive and power hungry elders are not in the majority. Most are sincere believers who are put on to do far more than is reasonably possible.
A minority are guilty of abusing their power. My opinion of them is exactly the opposite, only a very few of them know how to use wisely the power given to them.

Spiritual Welfare
by wheelwithinwheel inthis year’s “don’t give up” convention encourages theocratic welfare.
brother pioneer is doing a lot of carting and having trouble making ends meet.
his landlord doesn’t get it and decides to evict him and his wife.. .

The expectations about help are not realistic. Maybe is a way to encourage congregations to support the displaced Bethelites.

I think that I know why.

A female zookeeper died after being mauled by a tiger in a "freak accident" at a Cambridgeshire zoo.
Officers attended what was initially described as a "very serious incident" at Hamerton Zoo Park, near Huntingdon, at around 11.15am today (May 29).
A police spokeswoman confirmed this evening that the zookeeper died of her injuries at the scene.
She said: "A tiger entered an enclosure with a keeper. Sadly the female zookeeper died at the scene.
"At no time did the animal escape from the enclosure."
The incident is not being treated as suspicious.
A statement from Hamerton Park Zoo read: “This appears to have been a freak accident.
“A full investigation is under way and we hope that more details can be announced as soon as we are able.
“At no point during the incident did any animals escape their enclosures, and at no point was public safety affected in any way.
“All our thoughts and sympathies are with our colleagues, friends and families at this dreadful time."
The zoo is a 25-acre wildlife park that has about 500 animals including monkeys, cheetahs, raccoons, sloth and a collection of Malaysian tigers and white tigers.
In 2014 it was described as “the most environmentally-friendly zoo in Europe.”
