FTS that is awesome! Thanks so much for this great post. Yes, Max Lloyd. That was it. A very humble and decent bloke. What I remember most about Don McLean was that he loved pancakes and maple syrup. Every Thursday morning we had pancakes for breakfast. Being a callow youth I don't think that I had ever had Canadian maple syrup before. I still love it all these years later. The batter had to be made the evening before. I remember I was taking Doug King to Sydney airport once. We were held up in the traffic and when it cleared we were cutting it fine for him to make his flight. He told me that he didn't want me to speed because he didn't want me being pulled over by the police. Not because he didn't want me to have to pay a speeding fine on my meagre bethel pay, but because the delay would mean that he would miss his flight! That's what he told me. Good one Dougie! Such compassion. You know I haven't thought about these guys for years. But when their names come up in a thread it brings back a lot of memories.

Viv Moritz? Australian experience?
by FadeToBlack incan anybody here from australia fill me in on this guy?
i did the search thing and the only thing i could find seemed to imply that he had been shipped off here to poland to avoid problems there.
i talked to him at a ca in warsaw and he seemed kind of 'off'... it also seemed to me that he had lots of 'handlers'.

Good on you FTS. Thanks for filling in a few more gaps. I had forgotten about the conductor thing Viv used to do.
He'd wave the baton around with a big dumb grin on his face. You'd see all this because he was facing the audience, NOT the orchestra. That was actually pretty funny now that I remember it.
When I was in bethel the branch committee was:
- Viv Mouritz (boss)
- Don McLean (nice bloke)
-George Hamnett (one of the most boring speakers ever)
- Max (?) damn! Can't remember his surname. But he was a very decent bloke.
- Doug King (he was pedant for English language and a florid verbose writer)
I got no idea what has happened to any of them. Can someone help out?

Viv must be getting on a bit by now. He used to be the branch overseer at the Australia bethel when I was there in the 80s.
He had all the warmth of a squid, which is to say - not much. He generally didn't say much to the underlings and would walk past you in the hallway and not say a word. I don't think he ever called me by my name or ever spoke to me outside of work hours. He was known for his pithy advice at morning worship and if he was in a good mood at the table he would tell the same lame jokes.
His talks aways seemed to be off the cuff and it often sounded like he was just making it up as he went along. But they always hammered home the party line. He is one of three (?) brothers who were all high up in the Australian jw scene. We used to joke that they owned the 3M (3 Moritz) company as we used to have a lot of 3M supplies at bethel.
I know nothing of what happened to him beyond the mid 90s. As far as being shipped off to Poland - maybe someone else can help out...

Is God's Name Yahweh or Jehovah?
by Soldier77 inhttp://www.catholic.com/quickquestions/is-gods-name-yahweh-or-jehovah.
subject title refers to the link that i found in another thread, somewhat buried in text, but i thought it deserved to be highlighted.
take the time to read it if you can and just sit and think about it for a second, think about all of the hate and disgust jw's have for the cc and just let that truth settle in.. amazing really.

My deep biblical research has led me to finally uncover god's actual name.
You all will be very surprised to learn that it's neither Jehoovah or Yahweh.
God's real name is Wayne. Wayne Trevor God, to reveal his full name.

christian conscience
by alfredjones100 ini have a question i'd like to ask long time witnesses and hopefully get serious answers ... if there is one.. can anyone tell me any area of life that active witnesses are totally free to use their own christian conscience on a matter?.
(for example, one that has not been commented on by wt articals).

There is no area of life that the wts doesn't poke its evil nose into.
An issue might be a "conscience matter" but everyone is aware of the subtext and knows how the wts expects them to act.

How many of you followed the WTS direction on education years ago and have been screwed by it?
by Julia Orwell ini'm really interested in this question because i've heard for years that if you forgo further education and go pioneering, when you have a family down the track you will get a good job because jehovah will provide for you because you pioneered.
as long as i was a kool-aid drinker, even then, i thought, "how does pioneering pay your bills?
surely education should come first.

I was a teenager in the 80s. Armageddon was just around the corner (all that 'Peace and Security' bullshit). Higher education was just continually pounded. Talk after talk and countless watchtower articles denigrated and demonised it.
I do not know of one single person from my age cohort who went on to tertiary education. Even finishing high school was considered suspicious.
I regretted it for years. Then I stopped moping around and went to university and completed two degrees and then did a masters. Part of the reason for doing so was to shove it up the watchtower.
One of the best things I have ever done.
