just found out my mom's cancer is worse than she thought...widespread--colon, lungs, bone...so she said i can come down and see her if i want to (7 hours away), and my help would be appreciated if i could manage it.
of course i can manage it.
she's my mom.. but i'm dfed, and she's a jw, living with her jw neice's family.
Merry, I am soo soo sorry for you, hon. I can empathize with you, because I am dealing with the same situation as you........my mom has congestive heart failure. Right now, she is okay, she is stable, but, I know that someday, I, too will be in the situation of having to deal with her death in the religion and me on the outside. My sister is in also. It adds a whole other dimension to an extremely emotional event. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you and your mom.

Thanks for posting this, Danny. From what I remember, though, there have been instances in the past where this "work" was done before Conventions. I remember there were days set aside to do field service even during the convention............and, I think, if my memory serves me correctly, that during the really big conventions in the 50's, they also did this..........so, nothing new under the sun, eh? LOL!..........same old same old............
what a thought provoking movie.
we just got in in the mail yesterday and it was released yesterday.
why are we here, what is reality, what is god?
Chris, I saw this movie............it was awesome........really tied in to my own perceptions of the universe we are surrounded by............you'll enjoy it!!!

i cant help but think of the analogy of pendulum swings when i think about how vitriolic some are towards religion (of any description), the bible (and other scripture), and christianity (generally, regardless of there being a wide range of denominational flavours) in particular.. it seems to me, from my perspective of sitting here on a remote scottish island, that there are a fair number of folks who may have left an intolerant and generalising religion but forgot to leave those attitudes with it.. just my 2p, coz to be frank i'm getting sick of it.. by all means enjoy some self-expression, it's a relatively free planet, but have a heart....
I, for one don't have a beef with atheists. Quite honestly I don't have a beef with anyone. What I have a beef with is the hypocrisy, scorn, ridicule, and condecension. If you post honestly, then good for you. However, I have seen too many acidic remarks from the "anti-God squad" to really believe that they are either honest or fair.
Yes, why is it that we must be so quick to jump down someone's throat? Do we get extra points for being nasty? My momma always said you get more bees with honey than with vinegar. When someone attacks me, I immediately close my mind and go into defense mode, so what makes someone think by being sarcastic and cutting that you will cause that person to listen to what you are saying?

a brief treatise on mysticism.
mysticism begins with a code of "morality" just beyond the reach of humanity.
guilt ensues; man cannot achieve this lofty standard of behavior.
Terry..........may I see where you got this particular definition of mysticism from?

Ridicule is the stuff of scorn. Scorn presumes that you are better than others, that you are superior. With the possible exception of pride I cannot see why anyone would prefer to be scornful and correct. I have really tried hard to come up with alternate reasons and I cannot. If there are others, please share them with me.
bingo. i agree, and well said. wish i could have articulated it so nicely.
early sunday morning, around 1:30 a.m., my wife wakes me and says that she can't sleep and needs to talk with me.
i say ok and she proceeds to tell me that she wants a seperation.
i was hurt, but not shocked, because our relationship is not that close at this point after 14 yrs of marriage.
Is apostasy grounds for divorce?
I believe his wife could obtain a scriptural seperation because of it.........spiritual endangerment is one of the listed reasons for acceptable seperation in the JW cult. I'm so sorry to hear this, EC. Sounds like you've been a good, true companion and responsible father, and are trying to make the best of the situation.
a lot has been said lately about bethel downsizing and here is what i believe the true story is.. watch where the money is and where it goes.
a lot of large company's now are doing two things to maximise profits and bolster the bottom line.. downsizing the amount of people they did gives them extra money and real estate space (yes people are a liability even when small) and the potential to flip real estate in nyc.
the second stage is outsourcing jobs...think it can't happen??
Not sure if anyone has suggested this yet, but, perhaps this is their cold way of getting rid of the older members of the "family" so they won't have to pay for their medical expenses and deal with all the issues that go with old age? That way, they can get a fresh new crop of younguns in, and young also equals inexperienced, so they won't be quite as inclined to question things.....?

Wait a minute... I like personal tirades! That's the problem LT your too nice!
Actually, LT is our own resident Chiron, known in mythology as a wise Teacher/Healer of the Centaur Tribe. He was actually an exception, as further study reveals that they were also known for their warrior characteristics............I guess LT has "evolved" rather nicely.......with alot of personal application...............
