lol...........Earthtone, must have been a particularly frustrating question day for both of us! I can feel you soooo clearly.
Confession, I wish I was at your point, I truly do.......still not there yet.
Usually around 12-12:30 I get a flood of calls of people asking to speak with various people at the office. Usually everyone is out to lunch; however, some people get really upset and demand to speak with someone "now!". What part of people going to lunch around noon don't they understand?
Bstdance, I was a receptionist for quite a few companies, besides temping as one also, so I know how annoying that can be. If they have voicemail, I just usually suggest they leave a message. For the most part, I feel sorry for people who's calls have bounced from the switchboard to me.....so, I try to make an extra effort to locate a live phoneline, but, sometimes, it's just not possible. -

Don't know about anyone else, but, this drives me seriously crazy:
I work for a busy bus company as a reservationist for a senior Dial-A-Ride program. I get many calls a day from people asking if we cover such and such a town. When I tell people that our service is paid for by the funds from one particular town, and is for those residents only, I am then asked if I know if their town has one, and if I have a number for them. Now, I have no problem helping people from time to time, even though I am not the local operator for information, but, after I get two or three of these a day, multiplied by one week, it gets old, and I get pissed. What is it about people that makes them think that it's no big deal to ask someone trying to do their work to get them a number? I'm sorry, but, I don't get paid to look phone numbers up for people. I have my own work to handle, and my reservation line is quite busy, as well as needing to keep in contact with my drivers and enter time cards and schedules for them. I also do other office work for the Manager of the Motor Coach Garage. My day is pretty full. But, I've also experienced the same thing when I worked in my former position and was called lazy when I told the woman I didn't have the time to look the number up. And, then there are the people who think that just because you work for one particular industry, you are connected in some way with every other business in that industry. I wonder sometimes whether it is just sheer laziness on people's part.........just curious what anyone else has to say about this.........

Does it feel good to hurt? Why do we make ourselves sad?
by AlmostAtheist ini've noticed that there are certain songs, movies, memories, etc that make me sad.
there is even a category of music we call "sad songs".
it seems obvious that we would never listen to something that makes us sad.

One other thing I would do to help me sleep peacefully from my own life and pain was to visualize myself in a safe place and that is where I sleep. My place is by a river and I am sitting in the cradle of a large tree that leans far out over the water. It took me a while to realize why I had to be out over the water. My father couldn't swim so he couldn't get to me where I was.
It truly is amazing what the mind can do if we use our imaginations to help us heal
Amazing, indeed! Did you see the movie "What the Bleep Do We Know?" Pretty intense, deep stuff I'll tell you. I've read alot about shamanism, a form of energy healing, where the shaman travels into alternate dimensions and heals people.........what you related is very much like putting oneself into another dimension, really. I've also been reading about OBE's and Astral Traveling..........my mother has had both experiences, and is extremely psychic........she can tell many things about a person when she meets them.........she reads their emotional energy........of course, I used to think she was a flippin' nut back when I was a dub, but, I've since learned she has a very special gift.

Lady Lee.............78 toxic chemicals???? HOLY CRAP!!!
It isn't easy as a therapist to know I have to take someone down a road that will dredge up all those painful experiences. But I have sat and cried with them, put a hand on a shoulder, passed the kleenex, and even held them as they sobbed in my arms. If I, as the survivor can't go there, then how on earth can I help someone else to go there.
This is extremely powerful........and, it brings back memories of times that I would try to be there for my studies who were going through marital problems........since I was experiencing great emotional pain at that time in my own marriage, I would find myself becoming deeply depressed listening to their words.......it was like nails on a blackboard for me.........even now, I can feel it's ghost in my psyche..........sometimes I still dream of being married and in those dreams/nightmares really, all the old hopeless, sad, deeply depressed feelings come up, and I've woken myself up with deep wrenching sobs..........I haven't had one in a while though, and I find myself more and more distanced from that past. Thank you for sharing these experiences with us. Terri

Another thing I've read/heard is that tears that are cried in sadness and tears that are cried in joy have a different chemical makeup...........I found that pretty amazing and cool..........I remember one time telling a therapist that it felt good to cry, but, what surprised me was that instead of being happy that I could cry and express sadness and anger in those tears, he was worried. I'm guessing that he was worried that I would get hung up in a loop of replaying those emotions, instead of clearing them and moving forward............great topic, Dave!

Jeff, please make sure you follow through and find out what kind it is.......that is very important. You are doing the right thing, and really, worrying about it will NOT cure it nor make it any better.......in fact, it will just bring negative energy into your energy aura..........I will be sending healing thoughts and energy to you.........Be Blessed, Dearest Birthday Buddy!!
Hugs,
Terri

So what's up with that? Why do we do this?
a bit of obsessive compulsive behavior from the brain chemistry I would guess........you mention that some roll thoughts around in their heads.........a very good description of a symptom of depression, as anyone who suffers from it knows.........your thoughts do get caught into a track of negativity, unable to pull free from it, you just sink lower and lower.

Need mature advice on this one..........
by Sunnygal41 in.
is there anything that says that it consitutes an illegal act for a brother who served in a committee to then be the one to give the talk to the congregation?

You must be joking - the Elders wives usually know and don't mind sharing
Woz, I know in some congs. that might be the case, but, not all. I was an elder's wife and my ex never shared committee stuff with me. We both had very strong morals in that area.Terri
