i'm always hearing about people wanting to goto heaven... .
1. what exactly are people/souls supposed to do in heaven?
2. if you believe in heaven, why?.
"Heaven" is just simply another dimension whereby our spiritual selves exit our body and become another form of energy. Energy can neither be created nor destroyed. According to much of the study in the metaphysical community, there could be as many as 11 dimensions--maybe more. Time is unique to our dimension. Just as in our dimension, spirit entities have all kinds of degrees of benevolence towards themselves and us.

the thing is, this person probably believes what they're saying is true.
they are basically lying to themselves first, then repeating it to my wife and me.
Beliefs and facts can be likened to a table. In order for a belief to be solid, it must be propped up by a series of facts and experiences which tell you it's true. Take out a fact, here and there, and the belief could still hold. Take out many or all of the facts, and the belief falls flat, like the table top on three legs or less. A belief gets progressively unsteady. Build it with many solid facts, like a table with 356 legs, and you couldn't crush it with a bulldozer. Then the belief becomes a conviction.
For many here, visiting this website obliterates many "legs" of false reasonings and interpretations and impressions, causing their whole table of belief to come crashing flat.
Adding new legs, testing the ones you've got, and strengthening them, is the only way to maintain true convictions. Convictions should be arrived at carefully. Otherwise, the belief is shaky, at best.
there is that old story i'm reminded of sometimes about the world being full of three types of people.
the people who make things happen, the people who watch things happen, and the people who have no idea of what is going on.
i thought you might want to at least be in the second catagory so i wanted to share something i found interesting with you.. i have two short poems and a short story for you to read below, and if you care to read these you might find something quite remarkable about them.. long years have passed.

I may sound far-fetched, but I would much rather deal with scientific principles and reasoning and factual discoveries with evidence then a whole bunch of hypothetical interpretations of religious texts.
... well, in addition to condoms being bad, now the pope says lawyers who work on divorce cases are doing something bad.. poor old guy; he should retire, but he really believes and will likely die in harness or become so decrepit that he is no longer capable and will be replaced.. however, at least jw's don't corner the market in saying stupid things!.

Pay particular attention to vitamin B-12: many have malabsorption problems with this and don't realize it...a monthly injection "may" be required in some circumstances. Today's processed foods are partly to blame.

As you touched on, overextension on all levels coupled with financial industry's constant risk exposure to derivatives spells CERTAIN disaster.
