in march 2000, residents of virginia, maryland, and washington d.c. watched continuous, often live, news reports about an ongoing manhunt for a police fugitive on the loose.
on march 8, 2000, that career criminal, named joseph palczynski, attempted to carjack a jehovah's witness family on their way to the kingdom hall in joppa, maryland.
palczynski twice shot jennifer mcdonel, 37, who was driving the family auto.

damn this forum is full of old people.

cicero,illinois 1970's.
our four day assemblies in the 1970's through the 1980's were pure torture.. they were held at a horse race track in cicero,il in the smoking hot and humid month of july.
they charged around $2 for parking.
from find a grave:
"William Lloyd Barry, a long time member of the Governing Body of Jehovah's Witnesses, died suddenly on July 2, 1999, while giving a public address at a district convention of Jehovah's Witnesses in Hawaii."
Did anyone here happen to see that happen ? i dunno how they could continue the program knowing that a speaker dropped dead in front of thousands of people... would be very unsettling/scary/disturbing.
i guess this is what the new system will be like.
enjoy the link every one.
and buy the way it is my birthday today.
anyone got the 2004 version, preferably in .pdf format? or, if nobody has it, would a bethelite be kind enough to scan it and upload it to a file hosting site?
wish i scanned mine when i had it. they force you to return it and your key/ID to the home office when you leave
"if it was'nt for the preaching work there would be millions more witnesses" - he was saying jehovah wants quality not quantity.. si i'm thinking, what's the difference as long as he has a people that live by bible standards and are moral.
maybe sharing their hope and faith with friends and relatives on a casual basis?
how backwards is that?.
Not a CO, but Canadian DO Wayne Johnson said this from the platform during a circuit convention that's pretty dumb: "I don't expect this system to last another 6 months at the most." He said this a few years ago, wonder how he feels today.
yep, you can face a judicial committee if you try to kill yourself.
.
.
"Chapter 5 - Determining Whether a Judicial Committee Should Be Formed
Offenses Requiring Judicial Decisions
4. Attempted suicide may be the result of deep despair major depression. Deal carefully and compassionately with such a person. In most a judicial hearing is not required.-Ps. 88:3, 17J 18; Provo 15:13; Eccl. 7:7; w90 3/1 pp. 5-9; 3/15 pp. 26-30; g90 9/8 pp. 22-23; w83 8/1 pp. 3-11."
Doesn't say anything about being DF'ed over it, that would be kind of stupid if it was the case, reminds me of how around Shakespeare's time, if you got caught committing suicide, you would be stopped, put on trial, and sentenced... to death.
ha never seen that one before.
"scumbag circuit overseer" is also pretty good.
does anyone have any info about jw in china?
i've never heard about this topic?
since everyone is supposed to be witnessed to, china is obviously important.. thanks.. croc.
Damn its weird to post in such old threads. but i have been hearing of jw's and china a lot recently.
Anyway, some peeps i know mention other witnesses who have gone to China to "preach". However, they say they can't reveal what is going on in china with regards to JWs, but that "amazing" things are happening over there, and that the newest brochures, the ones with like 2 sentences on each page, were made specificially for the Chinese.
AFAIK jw's aren't banned in china, right? so why the secrecy? and china has been relaxing its grip on religion in the last few years.
but i seriously doubt much is happening over there.
.
i dont think anyone really knows the answer to this one... but im thinking theyre probably driven around by cos in their buick lacrosses and don't actually have cars of their own... but i could be wrong..... by the way, the cos in my area drive used toyota corollas... so it would appear that the american cos get the plush cars while non-american cos get second-rate vehicles.. .
purchase used circuit overseer cars here.... .
In Canada, CO's and DO's still use the 2007/2008 Toyota Camry models. However, a CO told me a year ago that Georgetown is now switching to the new Chevy Malibu's come the next CO switch... Which the branch was using before the Camrys (unless I am thinking of the Buick Lacross). Anyway they made the switch to the Camry because the old Malibus/Lacrosses were always in the garage (typical Chevy)... but now they want to go back to those crap buckets.
IMO, Toyota wanted to raise the fleet rate they get, and they didn't like that so went to Chevy and they prorably offered them a rate much less than Toyota, but they'll be paying for it soon enough.
I bet GB get Cadillac CTS haha. Or Lexus ES.
EDIT
actually this reminds me, I was playing around in Google Maps using streetview the other day and saw some nice cars convenently parked around 25 Columbia Heights including a BMW and a Camry, and some cars had "For Sale" signs on them. see here
i noticed on the news part of jw.org, they mentioned this comment:.
"there were power outages at the branch office facilities in patterson and wallkill, new york, and these facilities ran temporarily on generator power; however, the warwick facility is still operating on generator power.
the storm also disrupted telecommunications services at these facilities.".
