Commenting feature on jw.org
by neat blue dog init seems that select videos on jw.org now offer a comment section for any registered user, (previously, logins were only used by elders, servants and those who wanted to donate by credit card).
however, your login info now has to contain your real full name and be approved by your congregations service committee..

What videos allow comments? I couldn't find any. Also are they public comments, meaning anyone can see them if they visit the site? It makes no sense for them to allow comments, they'll just be "wow" or "good video praise jah", which doesn't really apply to non-JWs. -

Take subway to work? Count your time!
by ShirleyW ini was sitting next to a sister this evening who during the whole ride she had one of those plastic folders that holds the mags and pamphlets, she had both spanish and english and was holding the folder out in front of her until she got off the train.
i asked her if she was counting her time, she said yes (of course she asked how do i know about that).
she said it's not easy talking to the people in the station (seemed like she meant standing with the trolley or just the mags) because sometimes people say things that aren't nice, so she counts her time on her daily commute.

i tell my parents to start their time early by putting a watchtower or awake mag in front of the window. do it as soon as you wake up, and by the time you're ready to go to the group you've already got at least 1 or 1.5 hours. truly jehovah's chariot is on the move!! -

"Richards was sentenced to a two-year suspended jail term and a sexual offences prevention order. She will also have to sign on to the sex offenders’ register for ten years."
What a joke. If the roles were reversed, she would be imprisoned for minimum 5 years.

Canadians have no problems with bright colored socks according to Branch Rep (Zone) visit
by Quarterback inwe just had the visit of the br, winston payne from down under australia.
he was a good old mate, and he commended the brits accent over the australian.
no mention of the metero sexual suits, bright colored socks, spandex, no association with df relatives.

I forgot to mention, Rod Jung said all conventions this year will have "lots" of actual videos shown, and that all conventions will have large TV displays set up for these videos to be seen by all in attendance. This has never happened before, I have never seen any TV displays at any normal convention I have ever attended, nor has there ever been videos shown during the program. -

@Quarterback: I agree with you on it being one of the better zone talks. The other ones were always rants, this old guy was pretty funny with his rambling stories and yes the talk was actually more upbuilding than most.
John MacEwan of the branch committee was the chairman. Warren Shewfelt (I think also of the branch commitee) did the Watchtower summary, Rod Jung gave an update on Canada's work (12,000+ reg pioneers, 50,000+ bible studies, 180,000+ attended last year's memorial, they are focusing a lot on translating to First Nations languages). Rod Jung is now on the branch committee and seems like he is the branch coordinator now, since Ken Little is 80 and had to step down.
Winston Payne was the speaker from Australia Bethel. His theme was "Find Happiness in the Peace of God" and was basically just "remember Jehovah knows your limitations so don't feel bad about shortcomings". He had funny, long, dry rambling stories and kept saying there's a point to the story. Payne looked pretty old, I thought late 70's, but he was still kind of on the ball because he had to admit a number of times there was a point to his long stories so he realized he was rambling, but his points were short compared to how long he had to what he talked about (he'd talk for like a solid 10 minutes and his point would be a sentence or two long).

@label licker: Ken Little is supposed to step down as Branch Coordinator when he turns 80, which I think occurs this year. Supposedly it's a new rule, once you reach 80 you have to step down, but I seriously doubt he will leave bethel, he's been there since the 1950s, he's got a nice "double" room that only the top seniority get. I wouldn't be surprised if Rod Jung is moved up, he's a good public speaker and seemed pretty chill based on the few times I talked to him and his parts at assemblies I attended, and I think he's in his 50's now. I forget what department he works in though. The rest of the guys on the branch committee are in their mid 60's to mid 70's too.
I thought Clayton Hanson was the treasurer, so I was surprised to not see him listed at all.

Has anybody got a copy of the older New World Translation ? (pre : the new simplified version ?)
by ukgirl inhey so i'm currently doing a uni project and making a film exploring my leaving of the witnesses.
i wanted to begin with an intro where i revisit the genesis account of god creating the heavens and the earth.
i remember it to be quite visually descriptive, so i wanted to take the account and illustrate it myself with narration over the top.

Here's a version of the site in January 2013.
That should be the old Bible. I used archive.org to go back.

@sir82: yes I was thinking the same, it does seem very low. But further down is a table that says they received $20,202,434 in tax-receipted donations and $14,526,065 in non-tax-receipted donations, which I guess would include conventions and assemblies.
