Herd immunity isn’t a political idea it’s actually a scientific concept.
It’s still very likely that this will become a seasonal with the majority building immunity.
That’s if society survives in the meantime.
even if you are young and heathy there are very good reasons to fear this disease and take drastic actions to avoid it individually, and halt it together as communities.
not only would it be traumatic as a society to lose so many old and unwell family members and friends, but survivors of the disease may suffer significant health problems in the future.
survivors of the first sars virus in 2003 have suffered significant lung problems.

of all the things people decided they needed to stockpile for a potential quarantine.
all of the stores around my area ran completely out of toilet paper this last weekend.
people were piling it into their carts and vehicles as if they were going to be holed up for a year.
In Australia, the closer you get to towns the bigger the cues of people outside supermarkets every morning.
A few of the major chains have announced that door stores will be opened only for the elderly and disabled for the first hour.
Very sad the way this is turning out. Our governments have failed us dramatically
hey!.
first of all i want to mention that i'm not a member of the jehovahs witnesses.
however i'm open and non-judgemental towards any kind of religion.
@Leonie
Yes this place can be a wonderful community, almost life saving for some who have needed it.
I was raised a JW and would scoff at evolution. It’s embarrassing, I feel stupid for that but am very grateful I started thinking for myself at almost age 30.
There have been so many supporters of creation and biblical nonsense come and go on this site, Cofty is giant in this place and his contributions to the ex-JW community are to be commended, he’s extremely helpful to many.
Stay safe everyone, let’s enjoy ourselves

Three blokes in my hometown of Brisbane in Australia have found a way to control the virus, it looks extremely promising at the very least at this stage.
Their research is based around spike proteins the virus uses to invade cells.
since donations boxes are going to lie empty for who knows how long, will the warwick parasites instruct (aka insist) jw's to now donate via bank standing order?.
I do wonder if the WT is going to use this pandemic for leverage to introduce permanent changes to how they operate.
They’ve been looking to trim fat, that could now accelerate.
If they say some bullshit like “we are selling 80% of assets in prep of the great tribulation, follow very closely all directions from the slave, stay close to the brothers now is the time for faith, for those without a relationship with jehovah now it’s to late.. yada yada”
The fervent excitement among the sheep could even see a spike in donations. Less questions about big sales, less time to ponder child abuse issues and wacky doctrine
i am curious can a single jw sister get a breast augmentation?
will the elders disfellowship her?
will jehovah be angry with her or upset?
Cosmetic surgery to beautify is generally frowned upon, much would depend on the local elder body as to how miserable they try to make one feel for pursuing it.
One could always tell the elders to piss off and mind their own business

Waves of panic don’t help, the Italy response could have backfired.
They shut shown business forcing thousands of young working people to travel home, homes full of extended elderly families who’s immune systems got overwhelmed, they died.
A measured response is needed, nothing more.
But isn’t that just delaying the inevitable? Aren’t we better off letting the disease run its course? No! When the virus is under control, as it is coming under control in South Korea, then a very rigorous system of testing and isolation of ill patients CAN keep this disease under control.
You are quite wrong on this point, and it actually reads just like a WT article.
It is why governments are taking action, what we are all doing in society or least should be is precisely that, delaying the inevitable.
At least you are on board with that.
this topic is to focus on status updates & advice (no opinion or politics please).. status.
latest status is that it's serious, probably isn't going to be contained and most large companies are making contingency plans, cancelling large events etc... which i don't think would happen if it was just people being alarmist.
the incubation period means it may have already spread further and infected many more people than are currently known, so expect jumps in the numbers over the coming days and weeks.. tracking.
The majority of people who get this virus will have a very minor condition.
I repeat, for those with no underlying health problems, this is a very minor illness.
Funny how this message gets shouted down.
They are direct quotes form Brendan Murphy, Australia’s chief medical officer.
The danger from over panic is also very real.
I’m around special needs children regularly, save the bullshit lectures about irresponsible attitudes, just thought I’d pass on the message from Dr Murphy.
so for years the usa has been relying on cheap labor in china.
supply lines were never interrupted.
china has gotten away with murder in its sending anything it wants with little checking of its goods.
To put what you said in simpler, more obvious terms: "the death rate among people it doesn't kill is really low".
So OK then, no problem!
How stupid. It's serious when anyone dies before their time and if you think it can't kill a healthy 40 year old, you haven't been paying attention.
People treating it as no big deal and not taking it seriously are the ones that are responsible for it spreading.
I don't think people realize how bad it is - sure, 85% have mild symptoms. But mild is from a certain perspective, that of needing ICU treatment or not. Some of those are still very very ill. Another 15% have more severe symptoms - some of those can die, you're in a bad way and there may not be a space for you. The 5% with critical symptoms need special medical care, ventilators and such like - those quickly fill up and if you think you're keeping the spot when someone rich and famous shows up, you have a lot to learn about the power of wealth and importance.
Already, in Italy, they are making life-and-death decisions because there aren't enough intensive care places for everyone. Maybe you are 50 or 60 ... should you keep the spot over a 40 year old mother of 3? Someone makes that choice.
Funny how you try to lump me in as part of the problem.
I stressed hygiene.
I tried to ease some anxiety by simply reiterating a simple fact.
The death rate is very low for the majority who get it, regardless of age.
I believe that hysteria is the popular opinion, your response proves my point.
I have raised a child with cerebral palsy, that’s virtually a lifetime of me being acutely aware of lung infections being fatal.
I actually learned how to wash my hands almost two decades ago through daily visits to the ICU for two weeks, not from Internet forums.
I didn’t finish high schooI, but I have injected clexane and given enough midozalam and phenobarbitals to kill any person many times over.
With my experience of the medical and legal systems in this country, neither you or covid19 can teach me anything about wealth or importance.
Thanks for the otherwise entertaining, emotional response you gave, particularly loved the bit about the 40y mum.
Facts can actually be used to douse the flames of hysteria.
About 2/3 of the dead in Italy have had 3 or more underlying health conditions.
The death rate for those with no existing conditions is still well below 2%.
If I’m 75 years old with no underlying health problems, especially a good heart, I’d be very confident about surviving covid19.
While it doesn’t sit well with the current popular hysterical opinion, death usually happens via an inflammatory process in the lungs, when understood covid19 becomes far less scary.
A good a coughing and sneeze strength will contribute greatly to saving the lives of many over the next 6 months.
If your old and have underlying health problems, I’d practice strict hygiene and avoid public places at all costs, don’t go near children especially when it’s at its peak, probably only weeks or few months away for Australia.
so for years the usa has been relying on cheap labor in china.
supply lines were never interrupted.
china has gotten away with murder in its sending anything it wants with little checking of its goods.
If you think a healthy 40 year old is at risk, it’s you not paying attention.
