  Covid-19 (Coronavirus) - Status Update Thread

  this topic is to focus on status updates & advice (no opinion or politics please).. status.

  latest status is that it's serious, probably isn't going to be contained and most large companies are making contingency plans, cancelling large events etc... which i don't think would happen if it was just people being alarmist.

  the incubation period means it may have already spread further and infected many more people than are currently known, so expect jumps in the numbers over the coming days and weeks.. tracking.

  If I may compare Australia and New Zealand`s response to the virus I think NZ has been ahead of Australia by coming out and laying down the law straight away whereas Australia has been coming out in dribs and drabs as to what restrictions are being applied .
  

  The way ScoMo’s done it though has kept business and workers employed up until now.

  If you’re a contractor making 50-$60 an hour your grateful for another weeks work, and so is the apprentice.

  Australia was very quick to stop large social gatherings which will reduce transmissions drastically.

  What are your thoughts on Animal testing?

  i just watched the netflix movie the animal people.

  although i don't really agree in general with any eco or the like terrorists, watching the hidden cam video of the way these animals were treated was just sick.

  anyone see this or the like movies?.

  The PETA types have no balance, hunters usually kill humanely, looking after the environment and animal conservation isn’t necessarily at odds with killing animals.

  I couldn’t watch the type of unnecessary cruelty you described.

  We have had scandal in Australia recently with the revelation of race horses been slaughtered here in shocking numbers

  Thats virtually Australia’s policy also, and has been in place for while, though we are far behind US in terms of community transmission. Australians are expecting even tougher laws soon that will see total closure. It does seem the USA has been a little slow to jump.

  Zoom Can Control My Home Camera? Maybe Some Tech Help Needed.

  even though i am partially in the it area of business, i don't understand here how people are saying that someone can control a camera through zoom.

  so if i am sitting with a shirt and tie, someone on the other end can can control the camera and see that i am naked from the waist down and periodically have an itch?

  or quickly move to the side and have a beer?.

  I thought it was a just a live visual audio camera, like Skype or facetime conference thing, I’d never heard of Zoom until a few days ago myself.

  at the moment lots of jdumbs are using the 40 minute free modes, but the paper says it has made it free since the corona crisis.. i was just thinking this could lead to either a problem for jdumbs if zoom puts a hefty price for users or,their may be a opportunity for washtowel to dig their fingers into the pie as we have seen in their dealings.

  its all about the money.. perhaps washtowel will develop their own and sell it to their members since they have most of this technology set up....donations can pour in again like water.... what are your thoughts!.

  This zoom shit is really happening, I met a JW at work yesterday who had been on Zoom for a meeting the night before.

  He said everyone is tuned in constantly, so it’s essential to sit quiet.

  I smiled, nodded my head and died a bit inside.
