Mana11, I am truly sorry that you are being shunned the way you are. You're not alone, my family too is shunning me as are many others here. You've followed your conscience and attempted to reach out with truthful words, it's such a shame our families don't see it.
Continue to live life to the full, enjoy precious moments when you can.

Encounter with JWs on Literature Cart , strange happening -maybe ?
by jhine inyesterday i had a conversation with a man and lady who were with a literature cart in our local town centre .
among other things discussed was the accuracy of the nwt , which i said wasn't very accurate.. the man , of course , led the discussion from the jw perspective and looked up on his phone some quotes from "experts " endorsing the translation .
he asked the lady to make note of the names , at my request, so that i could check these quotes later .

I spent about 20 minutes looking online and found several news items to do with child abuse within Jehovah’s Witnesses. I have placed the links below. They are not from ‘apostate’ sources and it took me only 20 minutes online to find them, they give a snapshot of recent events.

If you choose not to read them then I would like to make a few points you should be aware of:
- Jehovah’s Witnesses still do not have proper child safeguard policies in place
- They do not cooperate with the police when asked about someone’s confession to child abuse
- They will not warn parents when a paedophile is in their congregation
- They allow paedophiles to go door to door meeting families with children
- They do not check registers such as Disclosure Scotland for any member
I could go on as there are many other issues where they side with paedophiles and abuse the victims further.
Any parent that has any feelings of wanting to protect their family would want to make sure that their children are no where near these people. If JWs are wrong in this respect I would like you to ask yourself in what other ways are they wrong? I know the answer to that question and it scares me that my children would be exposed to it.
I implore you to think carefully about safeguarding your children, what justification can there be to allowing your young impressionable ones to associate with these people?

VISIBILITY
by LostGeneration inbreakfast of champions mentioned this on the elder appointment thread and it struck a chord with me.. is this term big in bethel?
obviously nothing in my bible says a thing about being 'seen' in serve-us or in other jw activities, but a long time bethelite went off on a visibility tirade that i remember distinctly during special servants/elders meeting when i was in.
i remember at the time thinking that the big j-dog in the heavens sees everything, so why the big fuss over the rank and file seeing us do stuff for the big j-dog?.

Countless times I remember COs in pioneer meetings telling the pioneers to be out at weekends also to be visible, as if it wasn't enough that you gave all your time through the week.

How to disassociate? HELP
by Mandrake ini'm looking for a way to disassociate myself, now i'm thinking to make a "public declaration" before a civil law notary (i'm in chile), but i need some ideas about what to put in that declaration, i would like to look the "ks" book to cover all possible sides and make a solid declaration... any experiences?
my plan is to make that legal declaration that would say "i'm no longer consider myself a jehovah's witness nor want to be linked to any of the wt organizations or legal entities, and want all my personal records to be erased"... any orientation will be helpful :).

How would you respond to this defense made on behalf of The Watchtower's Child Abuse lawsuits?
by adjusted knowledge indetails of the society's child abuse policies have been published in jehovah's witnesses' publications, although more specific guidelines are only made available to elders, or on request.
press releases issued by the watch tower society's office of public information confirm that if a person accused of molestation repeatedly denies the charges of his victim, and there is no other witness to the incident, "the elders cannot take action within the congregation at that time", but would report to authorities if required by local laws.
our families jehovahs witnesses and child protection.

For a start this is absurd:
When any one of Jehovah’s Witnesses is accused of an act of child abuse, the local congregation elders are expected to investigate. Two elders meet separately with the accused and the accuser to see what each says on the matter. If the accused denies the charge, the two elders may arrange for him and the victim to restate their position in each other’s presence, with elders also there. If during that meeting the accused still denies the charges and there are no others who can substantiate them, the elders cannot take action within the congregation at that time
Why are the elders expected to investigate a criminal act? Why then ask the child to tell the elders what took place in front of them and the abuser. Is this not further abuse!? A frightened child who has been overpowered by a person that may well have groomed them and possibly told them their family will suffer if the child tells of 'their secret' needs a lot of strength to do this in front of their abuser. And then as if that is not bad enough, the abuser denies it and is free to carry on as if nothing ever happened. Meantime the child is left traumatised and at no point has any police been contacted.
I would like to know what evidence do they need before reporting it to the authorities?
