One years has passed since getting the boot. My story, past, present, and beyond.
by BreathoftheIndianNose inso as of today, it is my one year anniversary of being out.
i simplified it so that most people who know nothing of jws can understand.
in addition to writing this as self therapy, i plan to use it to educate others in my life who need to know more about where i come from.

Do Jehovah's Witnesses REALLY believe that their worldly friends, relatives and small children will be slain in the street by god?
by jambon1 ini mean, it's so utterly ****ed up, it's unbelievable.. just think about the nitty gritty of it:.
people that they love & care for who don't share their religion deserve to be killed, left without a grave & eaten by wild animals.
one day, this will happen & they'll be surrounded by billion upon billion of decaying, rotting corpses.

I had a conversation with a JW relative recently, they said that they believed the bible (though it is the WTBS interpretation really), and I said "If you were born Saudi Arabia you would be saying you believe the Quran"
The reply was "When Armageddon comes Jehovah can read all honest ones hearts, and many who are not witnesses will be saved."
Is this a new slant? Or was it just a way to try and get me back? I suspect the latter, but shows that even die hard JWs can't stand to think of billions dying.

Here is an interesting news item:
"Me having contact with my son, who has paid for what he did, posed no risk to the children. They tried to make me pay for his crimes.”
This would have been a tough situation for the mum, even after what he did, she did not shun him, yet JWs are told to shun their family members for having differing views on 'spiritual matters'.

Time for this Newbie to say - Hello everyone!
by SeventhSojourn inin just the several months i've been lurking here, i have benefited from many of the posters comments and viewpoints.
this is truly a special place for the unique community that has been created here.. after years of holding off my exit from the org (that may be another post) i recently became officially out (by letter of da), but it was a very difficult process as many of you know.
thankfully, i now have my wife (was also a witness) onboard and we support each other.

Brothers who were held back from being elder for stupid reasons?
by toto555 indo you know of any cases where brothers didn't get to be elder for a stupid/bogus reason even though they otherwise qualified?
do you think some/most appointments are politicially motivated?
how much do you think politics plays in the appointment process versus merit?
-
happy@last
I scripturally qualified for years, but was held back as I wasn't old enough, apparently I had to be aged 30+
As an MS I was a group overseer, did shepherding visits, gave public talks etc, but was not old enough to be labelled.

What Stupid Things Were You Counseled For?
by minimus ini've always been told that i have a very good personality, that i'm humorous, etc.. one elder called me over and said that i was "smiling too much".
the other elders talked to the elder who counseled me and he came back to say that i should be like i was .

Before I was an MS I was counselled for allowing my sister in law to stay the night in my house, she is like my own little sister, she was 16 at the time and all her family were away on holiday and was scared to stay on her own!
When I was an MS I was taken in the back room for driving too fast.
When I was an elder I was accused of being arrogant because I pulled up elders for shouting in elders meetings and backed up everything I said with a scripture.

Another Newbie
by Skinnedsheep ini recently came to the realization that the organization is corrupt and is false.
my story is similar to many i think.
i was raised in the religion, pioneered and served as an elder for a number of years.

Welcome, enjoy the journey. It will be tough, I ended up realising the faulty logic in every talk I heard and every article I read, and couldn't take it any longer. I resigned as an elder on health grounds and stopped going almost immediately. It was the best thing for me, sadly my kids still go with their mother, but I'm working on that.

Being a jw almost killed
by moley inthis is the first time i've commented on this site, but i do enjoy to come here just to help clarify myself in times of need, ie when those wretched teachings resurface.
a bit about myself.. i was born in 1970 into the wonderful happy organisation (lol) and had a unremarkable childhood or so i thought (apart from being abused by an ms), all i can remember is being terrified of dying at armageddon.
attending 5 meetings a week and being used to preach as people wont shout at a child, studying the literature, not being able to watch popular tv shows, no xmas, birthdays the usual shit.. fast forward to age 16 and i fell in love with a worldly girl (the horror) and got her pregnant, my parents were devasted talking all the time how people in the borg would view them, nothing about what i was going thru, 16 and becoming a father, quite a big thing to me.

Wecome moley, wow, what an intro! I'm so pleased you have had the necessary help you needed, and have met someone who supports you. The scars the WT leaves can often pain us, but I am so pleased they have no hold on you and you are enjoying life.
