Victoria, Australia, Newspaper article: Child in Jehovah's Witness Court Bid
by AndersonsInfo inhttp://www.theage.com.au/victoria/child-in-jehovahs-witness-court-bid-20130217-2elcg.htmlchild in jehovah's witness court bid.
february 18, 2013barney zwartza traralgon child has clubbed his pocket money together with three others, paying $69.70 to launch a private criminal prosecution against the jehovah's witnesses.. the child, 11, who is due to give evidence on monday at the state inquiry into how the churches handled child sex abuse, wanted to force the church to comply with working with children laws.
after four hearings, to which church leaders did not send a representative, the church began complying and the office of public prosecutions intervened to discontinue the case.. the inquiry will also hear from anti-jehovah's witness campaigner steven unthank, a former member of the church who says he and his family were ostracised and persecuted after he tried to tackle child abuse.. his submission alleges the church and its incorporated body, the watchtower society, covered up criminal child abuse, including rape, sexual assault, death threats, blackmail and assault, across four states by ordained ministers and officers of the church.. advertisementthe victorian and civil administrative tribunal will hear a religious vilification complaint against the church by mr unthank in may, after the church said people who left the church, as he had, were ''mentally diseased''.. and the victorian health services commissioner is investigating a complaint by another former gippsland church member that a jehovah's witness chaplain was found alone without permission with a naked toddler in a room at latrobe regional hospital.. the child appearing today, who cannot be named, has asked the inquiry to determine whether the church's failure to get working with children checks between july 2008 and december 2011 amounted to criminal child abuse of all 6160 jehovah's witness children in victoria.. he asks why the government and police let the church ''get away with'' non-compliance, and whether the state will help file a class action against the church.. the submission suggests the 2000 jehovah's witnesses who worked with children were committing criminal offences each week.

Does the Bible actually condemn Homosexuality for Chrisitans anywhere ?
by Phizzy ini ask the question because i read a very persuasive article on-line that showed that the apostle paul was not referring to mere homosexual practice in his words in his letters, but to temple prostitution etc, so he was condemning idolatry, not being homosexual per se.. the basic usage of the word that some translations render as "homosexual" and the n.w.t, falling in to the etymology trap, renders "men who lie with men" means temple prostitute.
the account of sodom and gomorrah has been shown on here to be concerned with lack of hospitality being the sin, mistreatment of strangers etc, still a no- no in desert communities.
the whole story may well be a folk story or myth anyway, but it is interesting to see that the sexual acts themselves are not the main thrust (sorry) of yahweh's anger.. the law (leviticus?

Homosexuals are NOT condemned. Jesus came to save all sinners. The death and resurrection of Christ kills All sin and lusts in flesh. In Christ we are set free to OVERCOME any and ALL immoral and unnatural lusts, including homosexual acts which are works of the flesh, not fruit of the Spirit !

Lars****they cannot apply the 1335 days correctly to the date of the second coming.****
We can NOT and SHOULD NOT apply any dates to the second coming, Being AWAKE is not setting dates, its leading a Spirit filled life everyday. As Martin Luther called it living his baptism daily, dying to selfish lusts by the empowerment of Christs resurrected life, HE died to give us, to overcome death and sin and evil, that's what being AWAKE is all about Lars !

Can 70 years be symbolic in the Bible?
by Pterist inin isaiah 23:.......tyre will be forgotten for seventy years....the span of a kings life !
in my morning bible reading i came across the above verse were 70 years is equated to the span of a kings life !
the wbts along will many seem to take a very rigid approach with dates and numbers and apply it to date setting end times etc, ...when it may be just a generalization.

****Only one group was to serve the 70 years, the last deportees. So the 70 years are specific and is a non-negotiable point.***
This group you mentioned above, are NOT the group that came back from exile, and RECOGNISED by Matthew @ 1:11-15 as the "official royal line that was exiled in 597, about 10 years before the destruction of Jerusalem, during the KINGLY REIGN of Babylon ie 70 years....but my salvation is not based on dates, it's an interesting subject, would not like to based anything significant on dates. Christ in the royal line of David is the chosen rock and foundation.
You still never answered Hebrews 9 .... 27 Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, 28 so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.

Daniel was confused.
by transhuman68 ini did some research after reading this thread: http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/watchtower/bible/246165/1/using-microsoft-excel-to-disprove-watchtower-theology-authority.
and realized there have been some flip-flops in the watchtower's interpretation of daniel's prophecy.
here is the interpretation from 'pay attention to daniel's prophecy' (1999) pg.301:.

*** Why didn't Daniel write in the dates to end this confusion?****
What ever the reason, I believe Daniel's book has been fulfilled since the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 AD ! From a partial preterism perspective !
The storey continues in Revelation where the early church are persecuted and killed by the Roman empire and are resurrected to glory as the first fruits enrolled in the heavens, sometime after 70 AD. Rev 7, 14, 20:1-6

The Adventist family of churches is regarded today as conservative Protestants. [ 1 ] Although these churches [clarification needed] hold much in common, their theology differs on whether the intermediate state is unconscious sleep or consciousness, whether the ultimate punishment of the wicked is annihilation or eternal torment, the nature of immortality, whether or not the wicked are resurrected after the millennium, and whether the sanctuary of Daniel 8 refers to the one in heaven or one on earth. [ 1 ] The movement has encouraged the examination of the whole Bible, leading Seventh-day Adventists and some smaller Adventist groups to observe the Sabbath.
Denominations
The Handbook of Denominations in the United States, 12th edn., describes the following churches as "Adventist and Sabbatarian (Hebraic) Churches":
[edit] Christadelphians
Main article: ChristadelphiansThe Christadelphians, were founded in 1844 and had an estimated 25,000 members in 170 ecclesias, or churches in 2000 in America.
[edit] Advent Christian Church
Main article: Advent Christian ChurchThe Advent Christian Church was founded in 1860 and had 25,277 members in 302 churches in 2002 in America. It is a "first-day" body of Adventist Christians founded on the teachings of William Miller. It adopted the "conditional immortality" views of Charles F. Hudson and George Storrs formed the "Advent Christian Association" in Salem, Massachusetts in 1860.
[edit] Primitive Advent Christian Church
Main article: Primitive Advent Christian ChurchThe Primitive Advent Christian Church is a small group which separated from the Advent Christian Church. It differs from the parent body mainly on two points. Its members observe foot washing as a rite of the church, and they teach that reclaimed backsliders should be baptized (even though they had formerly been baptized). This is sometimes referred to as rebaptism.
[edit] Seventh-day Adventist
Main article: Seventh-day Adventist ChurchThe Seventh-day Adventist Church, founded in 1863, had 16,600,000 baptized members (not counting children of members) worldwide as of 2010 [ 4 ] is best known for its teaching that Saturday, the seventh day of the week, is the Sabbath and is the appropriate day for worship. However, it is the secong coming of Jesus Christ along with the Judgement day; based on the three angels message in Revelation 14: 6-13, the main doctrine of SDA.
[edit] Seventh Day Adventist Reform Movement
Main article: Seventh Day Adventist Reform MovementThe Seventh Day Adventist Reform Movement is a small offshoot with an unknown number of members from the Seventh-day Adventist Church caused by disagreement over military service on the Sabbath day during World War I.
[edit] Davidian Seventh-day Adventist Association
Main article: Shepherd's RodThe Davidians (originally named Shepherd's Rod) is a small offshoot with an unknown number of members made up primarily of voluntarily disfellowshipped members of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. They were originally known as the Shepherd's Rod and are still referred to as such. The group derives its name from two books on Bible doctrine written by its founder, Victor Houteff, in 1929.
[edit] Branch Davidians
The Branch Davidians were a split ("branch") from the Davidians. Many of them perished in the infamous Waco Siege of 1993.
[edit] Church of God (Seventh Day)
Main article: General Conference of the Church of God (Seventh-Day)The Church of God (Seventh-Day) was founded in 1863 and it had an estimated 11,000 members in 185 churches in 1999 in America. Its founding members separated in 1858 from those Adventists associated with Ellen G. White who later organized themselves as Seventh-day Adventists in 1863. The Church of God (Seventh Day) split in 1933, creating two bodies: one headquartered in Salem, West Virginia, and known as the Church of God (7th day) - Salem Conference and the other one headquartered in Denver, Colorado and known as the General Conference of the Church of God (Seventh-Day). The Worldwide Church of God splintered from this. [ 5 ]
[edit] Church of God and Saints of Christ
Main article: Church of God and Saints of ChristThe Church of God and Saints of Christ was founded in 1896 and had an estimated 40,000 members in approximately 200 congregations in 1999 in America.
[edit] Church of God General Conference
Many denominations known as "Church of God" have Adventist origins.
Main article: Church of God General ConferenceThe Church of God General Conference was founded in 1921 and had 7,634 members in 162 churches in 2004 in America. It is an Adventist Christian body which is also known as the Church of God of the Abrahamic Faith and the Church of God General Conference (Morrow, GA).
[edit] United Seventh-Day Brethren
Main article: United Seventh-Day BrethrenThe United Seventh-Day Brethren is a small Sabbatarian Adventist body. In 1947, several individuals and two independent congregations within the Church of God Adventist movement formed the United Seventh-Day Brethren, seeking to increase fellowship and to combine their efforts in evangelism, publications, and other ministries.
[edit] Worldwide Church of God
Main article: Worldwide Church of GodThe Worldwide Church of God was founded in 1933 and had an estimated 63,000 members worldwide in 2004.
[edit] United Church of God
Following massive doctrinal changes in the Worldwide Church of God, numerous groups split off to retain a more traditional system. TheUnited Church of God founded in 1995 is the largest such offshoot.
[edit] Other minor Adventist groups
- True and Free Adventists, a Soviet Union offshoot
- At least two denominations and numerous individual churches with a charismatic or Pentecostal-type bent have been influenced by or were offshoots from Seventh-day Adventists – see charismatic Adventism generally
- United Sabbath-Day Adventist Church, an African-American offshoot of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in New York City
- Celestia, a Christian communal town near Laporte in Sullivan County, Pennsylvania, founded by Millerite Peter E. Armstrong. It disintegrated before the end of the 19th century [ 6 ]
[edit] Other relationships
The Bible Students movement founded by Charles Taze Russell had in its early development close connections with the Millerite movement and stalwarts of the Adventist faith, including George Storrs and Joseph Seiss. The various groupings of Bible Students currently have a cumulative membership of less than 20,000 worldwide. Although the Jehovah's Witnesses (who emerged in 1931 following a schism in the Bible Students movement that began in 1917) and remaining Bible Students are not generally regarded as part of the Millerite Adventist movement, Russell attended and eventually led an Adventist oriented Bible study church from 1870–74. Avowing his indebtedness to Adventism, he "was deeply influenced by Adventist thoughts." [ 7 ] As of December 2008 there were approximately 7 million Jehovah's Witnesses worldwide.
