That was a joke Programming work benefits from levity, so silly examples are not uncommon.

Comprehensive NWT Comparison Project (calling all technically skilled members)
by Apognophos inis anyone aware if this project is already being done by someone?
if not, perhaps we can brainstorm how to go about this, now that the pdf for the revised nwt is out.
a couple initial impressions:.

It should be fairly easy, after the project is done, to make something like a bar graph showing which parts of the Bible were most changed (Genesis-Revelation being the x axis, and number of words changed being the y).

Ancient Confession Found: 'We Invented Jesus Christ'
by Watchtower-Free inhttp://uk.prweb.com/releases/2013/10/prweb11201273.htm.
ancient confession found: 'we invented jesus christ'biblical scholars will be appearing at the 'covert messiah' conference at conway hall in london on the 19th of october to present this controversial discovery to the british public.
london (prweb uk) 8 october 2013. american biblical scholar joseph atwill will be appearing before the british public for the first time in london on the 19th of october to present a controversial new discovery: ancient confessions recently uncovered now prove, according to atwill, that the new testament was written by first-century roman aristocrats and that they fabricated the entire story of jesus christ.

Whatever happened to mP? Did he get banned?
I assume he had some sort of malfunction and needed to be taken to the repair shop.
I think the more likely answer to this alignment between Jesus' travels and a caesar's life is that the caesar was deified, and then someone merged his story with the tales of an increasingly deified Jesus when starting to write down a gospel or a source for the gospels.

Death in Paradise !
by Pterist inromans 5:12. therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned--.
young earth creationists and jws (as opposed to old earth creationists) believe that adam and eve were the cause of all death and the subsequent cause of mortality in the universe, however the above scripture shows that adam and eve were the cause of mankind's subsequent death because of their sin, and lost out on the oppurinity of seeing god's glory to bring them to immortality by eating from the tree of life.
hebrews 2:5-11. .

Yes, the Society hasn't stated that animals were once "perfect" or lived forever. Your point, Pterist, about how Adam and Eve would know what death is, from observing the animals dying, was a point made in some talks when I was a JW. This made me question, as I was growing up, why God just didn't seem to give a damn about animals. They can feel pain and fear like we do, but apparently it's okay if they die violent deaths or die from old age? I gradually realized that the brothers at the top of the organization, and any elders that were good company men, had a positively sociopathic attitude towards animals, since they were imitating what they thought was God's mindset towards them. It was one of the first red flags for me about the religion.
I thought from the title that this thread was going to be about death of humans in paradise -- how, if you enjoyed taking walks in nature in the new system, sooner or later, statistically speaking, you would die by having a tree branch fall on you (or by sliding down a hill and hitting a rock with your head, etc.). As you took nature walks over a thousand years, a million, a billion, the likelihood of death by tree branch would approach 1.

Guys, they're not making money. Do you know what "gratis" means? It's an English word too ;-)

Bible printing, a loss of money for the WTS
by oppostate inso i brought this up in another thread... but i think it needs its own discussion.. having had one of the new grey leatherette and silver edged bibles with the new appendixes in my hand.
i immediately thought of all the custom covered nwt bibles you see some publishers sporting at meetings.
also the fact that the co's and wives who'd been given one had to turn it back in seemed very off-putting.. .

Well, he said in his second post that the brackets had been removed, so I assume that the other changes were made as well and he just didn't have time to notice.

BTW- I should be able to dump the text from the webite. [...] I can now loop through all the books and chapters and extract the text (no html)... Just need to write to a file, normalize, and insert into my DB. Then onto the PDF.
Sounds good! Does "normalize" include getting rid of those annoying symbols like '*' and '+'?
One thing to note... The old version of the NWT puts brackets around the words it inserted into the text. [...] That might be an interesting change....
Yes, I'm thinking the missing brackets will probably get their own category, as there's no automatic way to know if they are interesting changes or not. The change you listed would seem inconsequential to most people ("Of course it's 'In the beginning', 'In beginning' isn't grammatical!"), but some people feel that it's quite significant because without the "the", it could be read as a more primitive version of YHWH beginning his work by acting on the earth as a pre-existing formless mass ("tohu wa bohu"), rather than creating the universe itself as the First Cause.
So naturally there won't be a way to automatically say "removing brackets around this word is significant, but not around that word", if even a "the" can have great meaning.

To be honest, I actually felt a pang of guilt when I received the Bible for free, thinking that I ought to donate something in exchange. I had to forcibly remind myself that the organization is harmful, and that it would be morally right of me to not give something. That was the only way I prevented myself from putting something in the contribution box.

Just to be clear, I was going to attempt this whole project myself, but I thought I should check first if anyone else had more expertise or better ideas than me. So whatever I can do to help with step 1 (if that's grabbing the 1984 browseable text, or anything else), I'll be glad to do. I just don't want you to feel like I'm kicking back waiting for you to do the work, MMM :-) I'll do whatever parts anyone else doesn't want to do.
