All right, fair enough. I still think you're paying too much attention, though

What some of you are describing sounds almost like a general social anxiety. I dunno. Why let what's being taught be so upsetting? Most of what people believe is wrong to some degree or another. Do what I do, and just space out during the meeting.

Still being in hasn't really upset me in any way. And as a guy, I have more to worry about in terms of getting talk assignments and being considered for privileges I don't want. What is so upsetting about just sitting at the Hall listening to people talk about the Bible?

Unbelievable Assertion!!!!!!!
by The Searcher inwe had our special assembly day this weekend.. what the district overseer stated in his talk totally stunned me, and made me feel sick to my stomach.
he said, "christ is directing us through the governing body, and we cannot get holy spirit except through them!".
i do not wish to reveal all my thoughts on his statement, but i pray to god that it acts as a wake-up call to at least some of the audience.. suffice to say that the gb is now the mediator to our mediator, and from now on, i will have to pray for holy spirit through the name of the gb!!.

Speaking as someone who doesn't have as many years of history as a Witness, I can kind of feel the trends you mention, rubadubdub, but thanks for spelling those out more clearly, it's nice to have confirmation.

"There will be blood" - I DO BELIEVE there will be an up rise very soon
by raymond frantz ini was moved from the post of another user on this topic.like the film "there will be blood" that deals with passive aggression in religion i do now think that there will be an inevitable uprise against the lunatics of the governing body .too many of us wake up in a rate that has never been seen before because of the internet .what do you think ?
what shape will this uprise take ?.

Yes, DOC, well said. The sad fact is that uprisings happen when people are sufficiently fired up over something that strongly affects them, like a tyrannical gov't, and most JWs really aren't that engaged. It's just a routine for them.
But I do agree that the org.'s members might be losing some of their desire to follow that routine. New converts are about the only thing that can invigorate long-time believers, so if new members become rarer, it will remove a lot of oxygen from the room, to use jgnat's language.

Urgent: Pope Benedictus resigns: a good example for GB
by Gorbatchov injust in the news: pope benedictus is resigning.
this should be a good example for the gb of our church organization.
there are reasons enough: child abuse (conti case etc), failed prophecies (slave classe, un/osce), killing doctrines (blood doctrine etc, shunning / suicide) and fraude (investment corporation instead of church).. so it would be nice to read on bbc news: governing body of jehovah's witnesses resigns and make way for a new generation that embraces christian freedom.. gorby.

I've known elders to step down for this reason, but have any GB members done so?
Of course the suggestion that the GB step down as a whole is completely unlike what's happening here. This isn't to do with scandals or some sea change in policy, it's just an old man acknowledging his limitations.

Thank you for those quotes, blondie. I was still thinking that this guy is probably a rogue and we shouldn't take his words so seriously, but now I see the Society has said as much. In fact, he was practically quoting that '87 WT.

I think that has been their message all along. They're just getting more blatant about saying it.
When you look back, Russell claimed that his writing would illuminate the truth of the Bible in a way that reading the Bible itself never could. That's not going so far as to say, "You need me as a conduit for the holy spirit", but it's an arrogant step in that direction that was taken, what, over a hundred years ago?

Good Lord, a DO said that? That's one step closer to drinking the Kool Aid... literally. Let's hope he's just gotten a bit overly zealous and this isn't indicative of anything larger.
Edit: Ha, cofty, great minds think alike ;)

Blondie's Comments You Will Not Hear at the 02-10-2013 WT Study (TRUSTED STEWARDS)
by blondie inyour relationship with god will then be like that of those christians to whom paul wrote: you do not belong to yourselves, for you were bought with a price.
for example, the comments jesus made about one.

Thanks, blondie. And there are not only prophetesses in the Bible but at least one female judge, Deborah, who led a successful battle against Canaan's king. So women could be chosen by God as his mouthpiece and even as a military leader, but HEAVEN FORBID we let them read the Watchtower on Sundays. Seen, not heard.
