What % of JW's would have a blood transfusion?

on the current thread about blood simon made an interesting point that the stats are skewed because we don't know how many jehovah's witnesses secretly accept blood.

what are your thoughts about how high this figure may be, and did you or anyone you found out about ever accept blood?.

Why then do JW parents let their children die? Is it about themselves? Are they afraid it is them that will die as a result, or is it more the fear of being disfellowshipped.

Although I've never been a parent, I don't know if I agree with this. I think some JW parents view with disgust the idea of a stranger's blood entering their child's body, as JWs feel in general towards blood, but with the added protectiveness that comes from the parent-child relationship. I could also see the parents worrying that somehow the child will be spiritually impaired for the rest of their life (getting less holy spirit, maybe) as a result of the transfusion. In other words, it's the basic fear of being tainted by taking in that blood.

Besides that, your question presupposes that JWs are thinking rationally. People wouldn't be calling it a cult if its members thought rationally, would they?

Really?! I was there for that talk and I didn't catch that. I thought I simply heard the brother assuring us that the U.S. would be the last world power. How would elders react if I tell them that I would accept blood?

just recently i explained to my parents and my wife in detail, why i would accept blood or red, white blood cells, platelets or plasma in a medical emergency.

i showed them the inconsistencies and flaws about blood fractions and also the biblical reasons that show clearly that jehovah and jesus do not want a jehovah's witness to die because of that wrong doctrine.. my parents reacted surprised.

they are both about 50 years in the "truth.

It's funny you should ask this. Personally, I've been wondering, "How would bees react if I hit their hive with my fist?"

Declaring your decision to the elders is just asking for trouble for absolutely no good reason. It's like going up to someone in the congregation and saying, "I think that if I were in a situation like the JWs in Nazi Germany, I would sign the paper renouncing my beliefs in order to go free." What are they supposed to do with this information? Why are you even telling them? Just live your life quietly according to your own conscience and be prepared to defend your beliefs if you have to.

Any turbulent period of time will obviously serve the Watchtower society well, so we can expect a surge for them and a revival for them whenever this happens, but it is important to remember that the collapse of a super power is not something new

Yes, but remember that the WT is adamant that the end of the U.S. as world power means the end of the world. When that prophecy fails, it doesn't bode well for the Society.

ok i know ive been starting threads like a maniac but heres one.

where in the heck d they get the "when we survive armageddon we will probably have to start rebuilding while we resurrect ones, teach them, plant food, clean the planet, and grow to perfection"????

doesnt the scripture say that we die corrupted but raised an incorruptible body?

This teaching is an example of the sort of castles in the clouds that the Society likes to build. There's no scriptural basis for it (that is, not any reasonable one), but it does allow them to paint people with clothes on in the new system (they haven't attained Adam and Eve's perfection, i.e., childlike naivety, so they will still want to wear clothes), as well as to explain things like "How will we recognize our grandparents if they come back looking 30 years old and our parents aren't around to ID them?"

Funny side story: An elderly Witness and I talking about the new light on the anointed going to heaven before Armageddon. She brought it up, not me, but when she said "it makes sense", I decided I had to challenge the nonsense subtly:

Me: Yeah, that really makes sense to me too, because I used to wonder, How will the anointed who survive Armageddon get up to heaven if they live into the new system? At that point, wouldn't they be living forever on earth, so they'd never finish their earthly course?

Her: (thinking) ...Well, we will be gradually growing towards perfection in the new system, so.... [Me, inside voice: So... what? People will die in the new system? WTF are you even saying?]

Me: Oh yeah, that's true (pause) [inside voice: Haha, what?]. Well, who knows, I guess if they did live into the new system, it could have just happened like it did for Elijah... you know, the flaming chariots taking him up -- well, not to heaven in that case, but you know, it could be done that way [inside voice: Think, woman, think: didn't Elijah really get taken to heaven? Where else did he go? It wasn't a fricking amusement park ride to a mountaintop somewhere.]

Her: ... (says nothing, conversation ends)

I was really hoping she would bring up more of the new shite in the subsequent weeks after the July 15 WT studies, so I could make more smart-alecky remarks, but alas, I was disappointed.

What Was Your First Experience In Exposing Yourself To "Apostasy"?

as a young teenager, i would look at "apostate" books at the city library.

i was always intrigued as to what was sooo bad and other than a few writings of some that seemed like they hated the witnesses, i would clandestinely look at literature, especially in "christian" bookstores.. it took years for me to finally disconnect.

i will say that ray franz' books enlightened me the most!.

I know that I occasionally came across apostate info in places like Wikipedia, but I brushed it off. It seemed that all they wanted to talk about was 1975 and Rutherford. Who cares about that stuff, that was ages ago!, I thought. I can't clearly remember how I ended up on jwfacts.com years later, but there were simply too many solid facts there for me to argue with. I hadn't seen such powerful reasoning on the blood teaching before, and I had no idea about the organ transplant fiasco. A couple days of feverish reading there led me to the conclusion that the Society couldn't be God's organization.

So if it hadn't been for a plainly-stated, well-reasoned site like JWFacts, I don't know when I would have seen TTATT. I was far too wary of sites that just listed personal gripes or made ad hominem attacks or that pushed some other Christian theology or that looked like UFO conspiracy sites. Sadly, that sometimes seems to comprise the majority of apostate material.

It's true, the above process is probably inevitable. And frankly, I would tend to prefer a global hegemony by bankers over control by the Chinese, based on the unenlightened nature of Asian society with regards to human and animal rights. My main worry is the perceived need for mass depopulation, followed by the likelihood of a true Big Brother state coming into existence just as Orwell predicted, once the global society is as heavily wire-tapped as the NSA has the U.S. It would be better if neither of those two events came about, but they may be a logical inevitability. I know one thing, I won't be living near, or down-wind of, any major cities for the rest of my life if I can help it.

MMM: I agree it's odd that they would try to protect something that could simply be copy-pasted into Word, and that was always the case with the desktop WT Library, but I think they still considered there to be a dividing line between being able to copy-paste individual works, and getting the whole kit and kaboodle directly saved into another format. Who knows, the text obfuscation could have been the decision of a lone brother with a funny idea in his head. I think the original WT Library app was written by one person at Bethel in his spare time.

stapler99: Yes, that's a good idea for a category. It's correct that "soul" is now translated variously according to 'what makes the most sense', e.g. "person", "life", etc.
