Jesus Christ is King even before 1914 so Why the Need to...
by ProfCNJ ingood morning folks!
i have believed in the 1914 jw core teaching for more than 20 years.
but now, after seeing much about this date, i find it uncomfortable and odd to believe it unquestionably, much less defend it against opposing thoughts.

Comprehensive NWT Comparison Project (calling all technically skilled members)
by Apognophos inis anyone aware if this project is already being done by someone?
if not, perhaps we can brainstorm how to go about this, now that the pdf for the revised nwt is out.

Oh man I was going to reply to this when I first saw it last night, but I had a meeting to go to, and all that :-$ I had been wondering if you were quietly hacking away at the database, or if you needed some help. I guess not! I don't have the time to get together a test project right now, but I bet that this works for the WT Library CD-ROM's .PUB files too. Even if this ends up not being used on the Bible, perhaps it could be useful in converting the publications which are found on the Library and are now in public domain (though I don't know how many that might be), for the web sites which like to archive those old publications. Very nice work!

Wow, very interesting Londo111. I see they're still assuring us that the "generation" is almost over while having also bought themselves some decades with the infamous overlapping stuff. What happens when The Anointed: The Next Generation die off too?! Can anyone estimate when that will be?

"Growing to perfection"
by DS211 inok i know ive been starting threads like a maniac but heres one.
where in the heck d they get the "when we survive armageddon we will probably have to start rebuilding while we resurrect ones, teach them, plant food, clean the planet, and grow to perfection"????
doesnt the scripture say that we die corrupted but raised an incorruptible body?

Correct (but you're using the word immortality like most people do, and not like the Society does). But being perfect, you won't ever make a silly mistake like walking off a cliff ;-)
And presumably God would also have to protect people from random occurrences. As I pointed out in another thread, if you enjoy nature walks in the new system, you're almost guaranteed to be killed by a falling tree branch some day, statistically speaking. Perhaps it will take a million walks through the forest, but it's bound to happen eventually. We won't even touch on subjects like going into space and getting hit by a space rock that no one could have seen coming. God will just have to have angels everywhere watching out for stuff like that.

To bide my time until I am ready to move away from tab-keepers* and fade.
*Tab-keepers (n., plural): 1. Ones who keep tabs on you.

Great point. If I die and get resurrected, then I cannot die anymore according to the WTBTS. So what's the "final test" dogma all about? What's the point? Either you cannot die, or you can be killed at the final test, which is it?
No contradiction here to my knowledge. The Society teaches that only the resurrected anointed will be immortal (unable to be killed), up in heaven. Resurrected earthly ones will be mortal, just with everlasting life (perfection). It's all rather silly, of course, especially the part where the anointed are immortal but the angels are not.

by SafeAtHome inokay, so i may be in the minority, but i love igoogle and how i have everything at my fingertips i use (news, weather, bookmarks, toolbar favorites, etc, as well as personalized themes).

Read books?
Alternate answer (for old-school nerds only): We dialed into BBSes.
This thread is actually very confusing because it's about a portal or personalized start page but then we're talking about browsers, which have nothing to do with portal pages.

The best remedy to the problem is get out of the religion.
Yep, obviously. Barring that, the second-best remedy is to stop caring. Just let your mind wander. Or think about the bigger picture and don't worry too much about this paltry religion's place in the world.

Serena Williams admits to being possessed by demons?

Serena is simply describing what any of us likely experience. Case in point, I'm a really nice, submissive guy most of the time, with a long fuse, but I have a wicked temper. If I named my temper Joey, I could say, "Well, not having a great day today, Joey showed up earlier and said some things I wish he didn't say." It may sound crazier to some people if I put it that way, but it's simply another way of phrasing something mundane.
As I indicated above, naming your "personalities" can be part of the process of autotherapy, getting to know yourself and learning how to manage your moods, and it's not a bad idea unless one starts using the named personalities to deny personal culpability for their actions. Serena seems to be indicating that she doesn't "let out" certain inner voices very often, which means she is (at least somewhat) taking responsibility for what she allows herself to do and say. That being said, she could use a bit more maturity, though her outbursts are not unprecedented in the tennis world (ahem, MacEnroe).
Then again, I stopped believing in things that go bump in the night when I stopped believing in the JW religion, so I don't believe that possession is a real concept.
