Apologies, I had a feeling I must have been misunderstanding someone or something. humbled was probably referring to Mark 9:40 not being used by JWs, which is definitely true. I was referring to Mark 9:42 as the scripture which was considered "many many times". Not sure how I managed to get mixed up on that.

Right, which is why posters here are saying we need to learn more about the brain. The limited readouts on the hospital screens do not really tell us what is happening in the innermost parts of the brain. Doctors are just saying "We think the brain is only conscious for this long after the heart stops." They could be wrong. It's a much simpler thesis than "There is an immaterial part of our mind".
People forget this now, but the infamous guillotine was intended to be a more humane form of execution because it immediately and cleanly separated the head from the body. It wasn't until later that doctors realized that people are still responsive after decapitation for maybe 8-20 seconds.

Although it's probably not what you meant, you kind of made my point for me. No, I don't see JWs doing much to each other. For a group that claims to show true love, they actually seem to show something much more limited in scope and scale that equates to "Reinforce my own beliefs or I'll shun you". Other groups have financial assistance, and genuine friendship. Miss a few meetings, and your JW "friends" start to sidle away from you nervously. Financial assistance chalks up to the advice "Go on welfare".
I'm not an Atheist or Evolutionist or any of that crap.
You shouldn't be proud of ignorance. Evolution is scientific fact for everyone outside of the fundamentalist-conspiracy-theory bubble that JWs and their ilk live in.
It sounds like you've been living your life in neutral since being DFed. Put the car back in gear and start driving your life. Don't let the GB drive it for you. Interact with regular people. Don't ask what their beliefs are, just get to know what kind of people they are, and you'll be surprised. It's not a big scary world out there. It's a big world with a few scary people and lots more good ones.

by stuckinarut2 inhave you noticed just how much the org is now appealing to "emotions" rather than facts?.
we used to be told that worshiping god has an element of emotion involved of course, but that the primary motivation should be logical truth.
now though, they seem to be highlighting the "fluff" rather than the substance!.

Yes, millie210, everyone sees it, even many believing JWs :-) I think that Lett was probably raised in a cloistered environment. Some JWs are Asperger's-esque just because of the lack of honest feedback from peers in their life. JWs put up with stuff that others would take a stand against, or even mock.
