  Of course, what do you guys use? Most halls want the stage to look nice, so some of them even deck out a corner of the stage with a small table and lamp so the reader's chair looks like part of a living room.

  NPGs (non practicing gays - I'd never heard the term before) were condemned - have to be transformed not just wear a mask.

  Wow. They really just don't get it, do they? They think sexuality can be rewired through willpower. This is as absurd as teaching that black people can become white (oops, sorry, old Society writers). This is potentially really damaging to gay brothers because it's telling them that it's not enough to bottle up their feelings, but that they have to stop even having those feelings. This is one of the best ways to cause someone to become suicidal.

  it seems like the list of people who are accusing him of rape and sexual assault is growing every day.

  i'm skeptical of single accusations but the number of people and the similar stories seem overwhelming now.. it's not a conviction but to the court of public opinion ... guilty?.

  I'm rather shocked by that joke Terry posted. Is Cosby joking about using a rape drug? I didn't think he did material like that. I can't help but feel it's telling that he would joke about something like that. Certainly the juxtaposition of the current situation with that joke, that album cover and that album name is incredibly unfortunate.

  so recently, several over-righteous ones in the cong were discussing "how amazing it felt when they got baptised".

  statements like "how awesome did it feel as you got raised back out of the water?!".

  or the classic "i felt so close to jehovah as i came out of the pool"!.

  the second is they can see their dead relatives again , who have a direct pass to paradise, and that we must obey to get there to see them in the resurrection.

  Could these illustrations be any busier? The best painting is the one that has a sunny day in the foreground with all kinds of paradise stuff going on, but the sky is a bright outer space panorama. It's all kinds of impossible mashed together in one picture, unless they're living under a dome on an asteroid.

  To some degree, you are probably right. Here's a key difference in our perspective, however: you're suggesting that only a small portion of this god would be used for the universe. I'm suggesting that it could be half of the god, or even the whole god. We can't theorize what a god would be made of. It could be that he has no "body" and is all "mind". In that case the god could have essentially turned himself into the universe.

  On a certain level this is a meaningless suggestion, because there's probably nothing we can do with this information. I'm just pointing out that there are assumptions behind your complexity argument. Additionally, even if "creator+universe" were two times more complex than just "universe", that is far from ruling out the possibility. It might simply make the odds 2:1 against a creator, which aren't long odds at all.

  I'm sorry if you feel this is all unfalsifiable, but that's not really my problem. I'm simply commenting on probability, not feasibility for scientific experiments.

  i work for a mental health unit with 2 police officers we deal with people who have drug and mental health issues.

  at times over the last 10 years we have "taken down" some large drug affected men, mainly "ice" these days which is epidemic here, and let me tell you even with three of us it is a huge struggle.

  sometimes back up is needed or mace spray which is aweful stuff!

  It seems that some people interpreted my comment as saying that cops are always justified in using their guns, and some interpreted it as saying cops should have their guns taken away. Just pointing that out because I think it's interesting.

  I was trying to say that cops need a weapon that stops someone non-lethally, as effectively as a gun, but that is more capable than a taser. Unless there are repeat-firing tasers that I'm not aware of, you only get one chance when firing the taser.
