Need help! Atheists/creationists/agnostics whatever
by DS211 inok guys i need help.
for all those atheists or agnostics or maybe christian science people--what are some great sites to explore our existence, the universe, bible history and archaeology, pretty much all one needs to make a decision on their beliefs.
lets show the lurking jws that we can collaborate on something, and help a confused fading jw (me) explor his options and actually research.

There are many, many points of view but one of the eyeopeners for me was the scientific approach that debunked a global flood:
http://www.talkorigins.org/faqs/faq-noahs-ark.html
The talkorigins site in itself is quite interesting by the way and maybe there are even more pages that may help to make decisions

Categories of Former Jehovah's Witnesses
by neverendingjourney ini was never disfellowshipped, but it's been about 10 years since i was an active jw.
i've made an occasional meeting or half-day at an assembly here or there, strictly at the behest of family (maybe once a year), but i'm completely disconnected.
more importantly, mentally i'm 100% free.. we all have a tendency to project our views and beliefs onto others, and tending to believe that other former jws share our views is no different.

@judgejudy ... I was actually amazed to read your post. Not because of the nice contents or something but just how hatefull it seems to be. For your info: people that are posting here are NOT saying they have the truth... Unlike organisations like the WTBS that do. If you want to judge any of the posters please tell us the following:
- define "the truth"
- if "the truth" is jesus or jehovah please proof us why
- if the proof is "the bible" please hive proof why it is the 66 books you may be using
like i told before: I am open to truth... but not in a way I have to throw away reason...

I do not really like to think in boxes so I think, like Ding says, it is more a spectrum in which someone sometimes move from one quarter into another. You have some hardcore diehard xJWs that fit into categorie 4 but you may find the same zealousness in people that are in categorie 3.
I for example do not feel too traumatized by anything because I freed my mind myself. I did not feel a shock or something of that nature but DID believe the bullshit I have been fed for tens of years. I do not feel hardship to others that DO believe in it either. My zealousness for getting people out has changed a lot actually within a year and also my believesystem.
Maybe I am in the middle of the spectrum... the core of light hahahaha :D

Why does it matter?
by tenyearsafter ini have been on this forum for a number of years now, and one thing that seems to be a persisting theme is the "battle" between atheists and believers.. what i have not understood is the extent to which the supporters of either side engage in showing their position to be the correct one...and in turn debunking and demeaning the opposing position, or in many cases, insulting the intelligence of the holder of opposing belief.
i guess the simple question is, why?
does it really matter, or cause harm to be a supporter of either side of the coin?

There is a way in between. I am no Atheist... but I am no Theist either... I see myself as a Deist which means that I do think there is an intelligent power that started everything but after that let it be (it is just one of many views a Deist has... it is actually a lot broader then that). I have respect for both views and I hate the fact that people are battling each other for it (if you may call it a battle). At the end it all comes to "respect" and both atheist and religionist should express respect imho.

How to prove God does not exist?
by UBM101 inmany times (almost all the time) atheists asking for proof of god's existence from those who believe that god exists.
perhaps at times they should prove he doesn't exist.
any taker?
-

I think you do not totally understand. Since a Atheist sees there is no proof of the existence of god then he does not exist. The one who says he DOES exist need to give the proof. That is the scientific aproach.

Watchtower admonitions against unofficial pro-JW websites
by Londo111 ina friend of mine asked, "do you recall a watchtower or km that said the jw's are not suppose to read, or post information in defense of the watchtower on their own personal website or anyone elses website?".
of course, there is the july 15, 2011 watchtower: what is involved in avoiding false teachers?
we do not receive them into our homes or greet them.
