This pretty much sums it up.
i've read a lot of crap in my life (not just wts) and i have finally found the phrase to describe almost every religious wrting i've read.
"confirmation bias" affects how jws look at historical facts, how dems and repubs look at economic facts, or how all people look at information presented to them.
i still go to meetings every once in a while to make my wife and my boss feel better about me, but sometimes i can't believe how idiotic some things are.

in 1989 the watchtower society published a 32-page booklet entitled "should you believe in the trinity?
" the aim of this publication was to discredit the christian doctrine of the triune nature of god.
the method that the society used to accomplish this goal was to quote from a plethora of resources, both secular and religious, such as dictionaries, encyclopedias, books and historical literature written by individual authors.
I always wondered why they discontinued the Trinity booklet.
Now I know why.
Because "Evil Apostates" exposed all the quotes that were taken completely out of context.
This is completely blatant and deliberate dishonesty.
since 1935, the watchtower had been categorically teaching (for over 6 decades) that the heavenly calling of the 144,000 anointed christians had ceased in 1935. this teaching was especially significant to older jws (especially those who spent much of their lives serving the watchtower as pioneers, elders, missionaries, bethelites, etc.
) because many of these would eventually turn their attention to the aging governing body members and feel a sense of relief knowing that the end was drawing ever so near.
in other words, as more governing body members (who were born before 1935) passed away, the closer they would get to their long-awaited reward of surviving armageddon and living on paradise earth where they would finally hug grass-eating lions near a waterfall while marveling at snow-peaked mountains in the distance.
With the two new additions to the Governing Body recently, I wonder if more "New Light" is about to emerge on this subject.
fourteen years ago i started a thread on how horrible my disfellowshipped cousin was treated after his mom passed away and the terrible actions on the part of the elders at the funeral home.. 67. horrible conduct by congregation elders at my cousin's funeral.............. well, here we are 14 years later, and things haven't changed!.
my aunt ( who is my disfellowshipped cousin's grandmother ) was placed in home hospice care.
the nurse told her daughters ( who are jehovah's witnesses and live with their mother ) that their mom probably has 2 days left to live and that they should call the immediate family.. my disfellowshipped cousin and his sister show up in the early morning.
That's horrible. Probably fueled by Anthony Morris' recent hate speech. So sorry your cousin had to go through all that hate again.
fyi.
this showed up on my google feed.
i couldn't find an earlier story in the search box.
Thank you Tonus

So who is the current President of the Watchtower?
this is utterly ridiculous.... .
the more i research this particular subject, the more flip-flops i uncover.
it seems the fds cant even make up their minds regarding what happened in 1918 (or should i say 1919?).
So 1919 then?
This stuff is confusing.

“and in revelation chapter 6, the ride of the fourth horseman includes mention of deadly plague.
so the events unfolding around us are making clearer than ever that we’re living in the final part of the last days.
“And in Revelation Chapter 6, the ride of the fourth horseman includes mention of deadly plague. So the events unfolding around us are making clearer than ever that we’re living in the final part of the Last Days. Undoubtedly the final part of the final part of the Last Days. Shortly before the last day of The Last Days.” – Stephen Lett
When I first saw this video, my calculation was 3 or maybe 4 months before Armagedon. If this doesn't wake up JWs, nothing will.
this is my first post.

Hi all
This is my first post. I am a PIMO who has been lurking for a while and I hope to make new friends here.
For now, I would just like to highlight that this year marks 200 years since John Aquila Brown wrote that crazy book(let) of speculations that Charles Taze Russell practically copy/pasted into his "Studies in the Scriptures" which eventually affected all of our lives in one way or another.
