  If There was a Cosmic Pain meter...

  imagine that it was possible to precisely measure the amount of suffering in the world at any given moment - a cosmic "pain meter".

  decide for yourself what the unit of measurement would be.. we can only imagine a fraction of the combined suffering that is being felt right now.

  physical pain, emotional despair, grief, desperation, loss, terror and hopelessness.. of course if there is an omniscient god then he knows to the last iota what that theoretical meter would read right now.. the bible contains a number of answers to the question of suffering - ever since the babylonian exile one popular answer has been to blame his nemesis the devil, "we know that we are children of god, and that the whole world is under the control of the evil one.

  @Cofty interesting philosophy...but most people always start from the assumption that there is only 1 god.

  My personal philosophy is that there isn't just one god first of all, just like I don't believe we are the only planet with life in the whole universe. I'm sure many have seen the film Prometheus and whilst I didn't think much of the movie itself, even bored me in some parts, I liked the post-conversation it provoked and there is a part where David and Holloway are speaking at the billiards table where Charlie says humans created androids “because we could” and David replies, “Imagine how it would feel to hear that from your creator."

  Yes let's imagine.

  That really made me think and I can imagine how many people will dismiss this thought all together, because we are brought up to believe in everything we do that we must have purpose, we go to school for a purpose: to learn. We go to work for a purpose: to earn a salary. We go on vacation for a purpose: to relax. We date/marry whatever for a purpose: have a companion, sex on tap and have kids and so on...so the need to have purpose is installed into our minds from very early age.

  ..but what if we don't have a purpose? What if we are an experiement? What if we were made because the creator/s could? No other reason. Then pain and what's going on in the world and why we are left to our devices would make sense. When scientists test on animals (which I find cruel btw) they are trained to act with their logic and not emotions, they will infect an animal with a virus and observe the effect no matter how much they are causing pain and discomfort to the creature before they can inject multiple experimental anti-viruses until they find the right one that kills the virus. What if that;s what we are as human species are? Cavias.

  Certainly many will feel that's nonesense, we cannot be an experiment, because as human being we are thought that we have a purpose and we are on the top of the food/living chain and this would mean we actually aren't that, that possibly there is something bigger and better and we were just made as prototype....

  I understand why some people wouldn't be able to come to terms with that but personally I'm ok with that.

  i was told that the answers to my questions involved mysteries that one day would be solved as the light became brighter.

  @mamochan13 Yeah one has to be careful about what he/she puts on the web I totally agree, but the way I see it is we walk in cities/towns everyday and plenty of strangers look at us anyway.

  @wolfman85 Thank you. I love your look too very Sons of Anarchy :D and like someone has pointed before many gents have gone with the facial hair, it did make me chuckle to see the overwhelming rebellion lol but it's great to see people expressing their personality without fear of being judged. Well done everyone!

  by doing this the elders have to contact hq to get further instructions.

  in many cases they will think it just not worth the red tape to proceed any further.

  unless they concider you a real bad apple or threat that needs to be delt with in which case it should hold them off for a couple of months till they get direction from hq.. the wt is being threatened with law suits, they have to deal with big legal concideration of child molestation and other areas as the public is become less and less tollerant of wacko religions with abusive behavior.

  Excellent letters Blondie thanks for posting, I'm not surprised why they didn't respond, such a legal tone must have intimidated them profundly. It's sad how the WT proceedings are designed to emotionally/psychologically intimidate people i.e. 3 elders Vs 1 person, however as always when you stand firm with logic and respect they go away like dust.

  Private or public is nice to put a face to the name. I understand if some people are still involved but those who aren't shouldn't feel ackward of showing their face. I'm stand proud of who I am and have escaped a cult.

  I've gone through most of life as blonde seen I'm naturally one, and I can vouch the saying blondes have more fun and men marry brunettes, I had tonns of fun but when I decided it was time to find me a husband I switched to brunette lol and accomplished the mission in 5 months, now I've got black hair and this was a rare photo taken a couple of months ago, usually I like to be behind camera than in front...but there ya go

  144001 is correct. From my working experience, I can also add that the use of public emails (gmail, hotmail, yahoo etc) are popular to help manage the initial response to a project, particularly in casting and group anything to do with the program in a simple an easy way.

  When you consider that casting often happens country wide and imagine the amount of emails being received on daily basis, it's easier to have a specific address and also one that passes the strain of hosting photos, videos etc onto someone elses servers rather than the company's own. Whilst people interested should definitely verify that the company and project is legit, they also should not be too paranoid about the use of a gmail address.

  Once you are casted the producer and/or team allocated to the project usually will communicate from their own email address.

  how far does the "barking chain" of gossip spread from one kingdom hall's judicial committee to another kingdom hall?

  the record to my personal knowledge (three counties away 100 miles.

  )is i had a brother call me and ask if "brother so-and-so was going to be disfellowshiped on thursday night", he heard it from our cobe.

  A few months ago I went to my home country and as some of you know or don't I haven't been a JW in almost 15 years, and Idk what's my situation i.e. I sent a letter to my last congregation (in a different country from my homeland) that I wanted out but Idk if my home town country and old congregation knows about it and I don't really care to know either anyway....

  I was home and visited my uncle and his family, my uncle is an elder. His eldest son (my cuz) has a girlfriend in a congregation a good 80 miles away and she was coming to stay with my uncle's family for the weekend so I met her as she arrived.

  I don't know what the situation was but from the "open" conversation (i.e. gossip in my books), someone in her family was getting DF'd and my uncle asked her if they had made the announcement and she started talking infront of everyone (including me whom she never met until that moment) like they were talking about the weather. I was like you guys have your sense of "confidentiality" all messed up.

  So to the OP I am so not surprised about your experience at all.

  was a jw for 40 years.

  stopped attending 2010...resigned officially in 2011. still a little shell shocked but beginning to feel much better now.

  awesome revelation....people in the world are not all that bad.

  hello people,

  i'd like to start by saying wow!

  i've only just discovered this "world" of ex jw's so i'm still catching up on lots of stuff, my story is a bit long so don't know if people have patience to read :p but if you can bear the reading then i'm happy to share.

  @tornapart lol yeah the expression is usally having "eyes covered in ham slices", but in this case when someone is deeply blinded I say they have bacon as it's thicker than ham slices ...but of course Italians love the food metaphores hehe

  2012 service year report

  i just received this in typical jw email forward fashion from a family member.

  subject: year field service report.

  this morning at morning worship, they gave some figures from the 2012 service year.

  To be honest, I would never take their figures as they are given.

  I read in another thread how the "increase" is always brought up by JW as proof that they are the true religion.

  Well, beside the idiocy of that statement which proves nothing, I only believe ( and this is valid for any company/organization not only the WTBS) reports that are either independently carried out i.e. not by the organization itself, or have been legally verified by someone outside the org. like when you get the public accounts for a company.

  As the WTBS are publishing the reports themselves, they can well write what they like, who can verify they are correct? No one, so we have to take their word for it, and to me their word means sh*t, so do the numbers.
