  After A Day In Field Service, Did You Get Euphoric Or A Spiritual High?

  i know this might sound silly but field service did provide a strange type of good feelings after i was done.

  i called this the "halo-effect" because i felt so "righteous, obedient and good" for taking the weirdos or "the friends" in my station wagon.

  vans and station wagon owners in the congregations often get used hard, pile up seven whacks and your off!

  like everything else I did when I was a JW was to get others (family, elders, others) off my back, because it was expected.

  I had no feelings about it, was more like: "Right now I put on my Field Service hat and off I go" and neither I was one to "pause the service timer" if we took a break.

  I worked full time 40h a week with a physically demanding job and only once I did pioneering again to get people off my back. At the end of the month I was knackred and stressed rather than spiritually high and euphoric.

  all documents of important nature such as, our kingdom ministry, boe letters, forms, or other materials will now be sent only by email or private message communications.

  they will not be posted out here on the board.

  if someone else wants to post them, be my guest.. .. we have no other choice in this matter, and sending out confidential documents is better when it is done privately.

  This is so funny! Try find someone "in the streets" or answering the door after 12pm in Italy or France, or Spain. Good luck.

  They are all busy eating.

  If I still was a dub I'd answer: I stop because I have better common sense than you to know when enough is enough, you do not F up with people's lunch time in those countries.

  i used to have everything my cable offered in the area.

  hbo used to be my favorite but i have to say showtime is the best now.

  homeland and dexter alone are worth the price (especially if you can get a deal)..

  @Cofty, I miss Ch4! But really with 120 quids of tv license per year nothing is free in England not even so called Free channels. I loathe TV license esp when money goes into the BBC pockets and therefore into paying salaries of child molestors

  My fave channels are as per posts above and some more.

  Fave shows: Breaking Bad, Walking Dead, Dexter, Scandal, Homeland, House of Lies. Game of Thrones, Person of Interest, Boardwalk Empire, S.O.A. New Girl, 2Broke Girls, Big Bang Theory, HIMYM.

  Also in my country I get the Japanese channel NHK that is pure awesomness!!

  Fading in another country

  this is my first topic here, i'm a bit nervous and hope no police-y jw elder/ms is trolling this site looking for faders.

  paranoia i hope, not anything close to reality :-).

  so i've been away from my country for a year now, working in this fantastic country in europe.

  I did it overseas too :D Sooooo Cool!!

  Get your card sent from your home country to the congregation in the country where you are. Then you could change congregation in the new country, another time, like 6 months down the line, which is what I did....oh before my card found its way to the right place was so long...took my family 7 years to get me to "resign".

  Anyhow fading abroad it's the best. Sounds like the title of a reality show lol. Fading abroad. I think is part of the reason I suffered very little PTSD after leaving.

  How many exBethelites?

  this may be useful for those that have specific questions about bethel, but don't know who of us actually served there.

  I don't know many Bethelites, only 3 from my home country. All 3 are now out. One I heard suffered a depression as he didn't fit in there, came home after about a year or two service, then fell in love with a non-JW got married and left...no other updates seen my Mom won't discuss "negative" stories . The other two I also heard have escaped the WT but no idea where they are or what they up to.

  How did you break the news to your parents?

  so one of the things both me and my wife are faced with is breaking the news that we've stopped going to meetings to our parents.

  my wifes parents could go either way, they have made several critical remarks of the wt over the years, while my parents are die hard jw's.

  i tossed the idea around of sending a letter or doing a phone call or just not saying anything.. we've decided that were just tired of having to hide our true feelings and play pretend.

  By letter, after 12 months of non-communication due lies that others two faced and double-life dubs told my parents about me, and my parents who didn't know these people true colors they just knew were JWs and therefore they MUST of told the truth, decided to believe them without asking me. Then 12 months later I received a letter from my mom, to which I responded by writing first and then me shunning them LOL

  Best defense is attack in some cases

  wonder how long it will be before it is removed?.

  People who are serving as elders or MS can loose their position if they promote higher education? I didn't know that. Perhaps because I never came across anyone who did promote it, but now I know is because they are scared of loosing their "privileges". Just Wow!

  Considering how many dubs are ex catholics in my home country is practically 99% of converted dubs, and knowing how much the catholic church in past centuries has kept people ineducated so they could control them...I am so SHOCKED that people are not able to see the same type behaviour done by the WTS. I feel sick.

  Do you miss "dressing up" for the meetings?

  i was thinking about this the other day when doing a bit of tidying up of my wardrobe.

  all the kh suits are now pushed to the back of the wardrobe and i am seriously thinking about a visit to the charity shop to get rid of most of them.. for me one of the (few) enjoyable aspects of being a jw was getting dressed up.

  my secular work very rarely involves putting on a dress suit & tie so i miss getting dressed up - smart suit , tie , shiny shoes , slapping on the aftershave.

  I hated dressing up FOR the meetings, I don't hate dressing up.

  You couldn't wear heals too high. Couldn't wear black fishnets, they were "out of line" but ironically if they were cream or beige color they were no deemed sexy in my congregation. Couldn't wear certain dresses, skirts, blouses soooo hell no I don't miss it, I donated all my "nun outfits" at once, when I stopped going.

  I came across a photo of me at 15 and I clearly remember taking that after a sunday meeting, in that photo I looked 20 years older than I am now LOL
