Unwritten, congregational 'rules'
by Thetruthhurts inwhat were some of yours?
the big one in our hall was no frontal hugs!
these were generally thought of as inappropriate, only side hugs should be given between sisters and brothers.

My Dad was an elder and he didnāt like me drawing flip book animations in the bible margins ..... that might not have been a congregation rule though š

Exiting After Effects Part 2
by Victor inapproval .
as children we have a need to bond with our caregivers or parents.
this bond leads to needing their approval.

Brazen conduct
by road to nowhere ini just noticed the clam illustration of "reject brazen conduct" a young man in service walking past 2 others drinking beer and playing cards.
i know elders who do both.

Like most things with WT, itās who you do it with . Having a beer and playing cards with worldly people is WRONG ... playing cards with other JWS is RIGHT .
Go figure

Do JWs believe that animals were created to live in harmony? Lion and the lamb
by Doubledecker inthanks to all who replied to my first post, i appreciate you taking the time to do so.. i left jws for my own reasons as a teenager as i just simply didnāt believe it .
i am enjoying playing catch up with all the information out there now showing multiple examples of false prophecies , covering up the truth and the jw broadcasting stuff is amazing ( as said before iāve just ignored the organisation for 30 years ) , itās totally brainwashing evangelical propaganda.. however i digress .... as a young kid i used to ask , āif in paradise the ā lion will lay with lamb ā and all creatures will live in harmony, why for example does a snake have venom if not to eat another creature ?ā.
like i say i was 10 years old i remember so please excuse the childish question.. but do they actually believe that was gods original plan for animals ?

But do they actually believe that was Gods original plan for animals ? I never understood why a cheetah would need to run at 100kph to catch a potato.
Im not going to ask my still in family as they will probably see it as an āinterestā !

How do you feel about the JWS religion after being out more than 10, 20, 30 years ?
by Finkelstein inmyself being a born in and completely out for more than 30 years i see more of the damage of what this religious cult causes people .. part of myself leaving had to do with the psychological harm it was causing people back in the 1970's, one guy my age at the time hung himself out anxiety and depression.. the numerous suicides that have occurred in numbers is shocking to say the least.. then there is the many families breaking up.. marriages breaking apart because one member decides to leave the jws.. the deaths of members or their children from refusing a blood transfusion.. this hit me personally when my mother refused a bt when she was ill in the hospital and died.. over the years and observing all of these things reminds me how glad and fortunate i left when i did but i do find it responsible to others to expose this religious cult to what can happen to people who get involved with it and that's what i've been doing on this forum and elsewhere.

Finklestein,
further to my first post yesterday which outlines the effects the cult had on me from just 18 years exposure , I am finally starting to wake up to the fact the although I never truly believed In it , I let it pass thinking they were just another religion and that apart from causing a nuisance knocking on doors didnāt really cause any harm .
However , now, educating myself on their mind control techniques and shameful policy on child sex abuse , which I actually had experience with as a JW , I think they are a most dangerous organisation and am considering my relationship stance with my family members who are active . I would like them to wake up to

Ex JW of 30 years , still messed up from it
by Doubledecker inhi , this is my first post .. i left jws 30 years ago as 18 year old unbaptised youth and after the initial fallout from leaving pretty much put the whole thing in a box and buried it .. however , i am now starting to realise how much the doomsday messages and the āthem and usā doctrines thatās fed to you from birth has remained in my core beliefs.. how have others managed to reprogram themselves ?.
thanks for reading , have a good day .

hi Double decker--a warm welcome here
you:" has remained in my core beliefs."
would you care to say what your core beliefs are ?Pretty much echoing others comments .
Fight or flight mentality is very strong, donāt take criticism, a sort of superiority complex thatās its āmy way or the highwayā. But that is also countered by a feeling that whatever you do is never good enough.
Thanks to all taking the time to reply , looks like I might need to get some professional counselling to try and address these issues.
Ive had dealings with counsellors in the past but I donāt think any of them can fully understand the deep programming you have from a mind control cult.
For a few years, I still had some irrational fears of demons even though I knew it was Poppycock
Yes , I agree with this . I still donāt like watching supernatural horror movies ! Similarly I have stayed away from āapostateā articles and videos but go have recently let myself read them and find it very educational .
One thing I was really surprised at was that JWorg is now doing broadcasts , and how evangelical and false it seems looking from the outside in . I canāt believe my family , parents and siblings buy into it!
