  No fun debating "imperfect" JWs

  well that was no fun at all, just got a visit to invite me to the last supper memorial.

  haven't had a call for a long long time.

  i tried to engage them about following bible not watchtower, they just kept changing the subject as they have always done but this time every challenge was met with "we are not perfect,the slave is not perfect" and "we don't want to have a debate".

  If i didn`t welcome you before HBF I do so now . With me and my family it was not any one thing but an accumulation of many things over the years that individually at the time didn`t mean much but all adds up overtime .

  To the point you just can`t ignore it anymore and the penny drops .Somethings just not right and then you start to investigate a little bit more.

  And Bingo the rosy coloured glasses fall off and the scales across my eyes fell off also and I/we saw the religion for what it really is .

  My wife and I were in it for 33 years and brought our two sons up in it regrettably ,but thankfully we are all out now.

  If shunning were no longer a JW policy, how many would leave the Org?

  additionally - if this shunning rule was removed and everyone was made aware of the dirty secrets of the org.. (e.g.

  csa-arc / un membership / malawi - mexico contrast / etc.).

  would those leaving be higher?.

  the unofficial shunning of former JW who are neither DA or DF; they are shunned even though the rules don't strictly say JW must do that. Fundamentalist religionists think and act black and white, us vs them,

  My DIL has been shunned by her parents and siblings for the past 15 years simply because she no longer attended the JW religion she was never DF or DA`d she just walked away from the religion

  I say shame on them ,she is a lovely girl.and I`m proud of her and couldn`t ask for a better DiL.

  I would be proud enough to call her my daughter .

  And they say JW`s don`t break up family`s , I`ve got news for them .THEY DO .

  Tantalon , I`m just curious about what age bracket your callers were ? male or female ?

  "we are not perfect,the slave is not perfect" and "we don't want to have a debate".

  And they identify and call themselves Jehovah`s Witnesses ? pretty pathetic really .

  Very funny ,......though on the downside ,is that the GB/JW will discredit and deny the original and genuine clip of TPT buying 12 bottles of top shelf scotch.

  And claim that is also photo-shopped , you will never get a JW to believe it now.

  one of the most perplexing puzzles of daniel is the differing way the author referred to the length of time the rebuilt temple would be defiled during the persecution of antiochus epiphanes iv (175-163 bc).

  historically, the period is known with some precision; the heathen altar (the "abomination of desolation" of daniel and 1 maccabees) was installed on 15 chislev 167 bc and the temple was rededicated on 25 chislev 164 bc -- a period of almost exactly 3 years (1 maccabees 1:57, 4:52).

  National Siblings Day

  as has been mentioned, jws on social media seem to go overboard for the whole sibling day bandwagon, like they're so thrilled to participate in a holiday of sorts that hasn't yet been explicitly forbid that it's pathetic.

  so, it's okay to honor your brother and sister on a certain day, but it's wrong and pagan to honor your father and mother on a certain day, something that the bible specifically says to do?

  has anybody ever called them out on this, or seen someone else do it?

  To clarify my position if anybody cares is that :

  If you want to believe in a GOD that`s your business and I have no right to ridicule you for that .

  If I choose not to believe in a GOD that is my business and you can ridicule me or not all you like I don`t care .

  Surely all of us can express opinions one way or another without getting into personal attacks on each other .

  Just my 2 cents worth.

  I hope your not put off with us here HiddenPimo with this thread we really are a great bunch of people with different views and many with a wealth of information ,so please stick around .

  Do old time present day active JW`s genuinely believe in overlapping generations ?

  for the life of me i can not come to terms with old timers in the "truth" who could swallow this interpretation of scripture about an overlapping generation .. when jesus spoke about "this generation" .

  are their any real bible students among younger ones any more ?.

  here are 3 bible scriptures that confirm a generation is approximately 40- 50 years long give or take a few years .. 1. matt:1 :17 abraham born 2016-18 bc jesus born 2 bc approx.

  Back to topic there have been some interesting comments here.

  I liked this one among others :

  I cant think of a single dub, when posed the question "why are you the truth?" Would say "because Jesus chose us in 1919 ,if they really believed that then why don`t they try to defend that as one of their major priorities ?

  Another one

  My favourite: (Job 42:16) “After this Job lived for 140 years, and he saw his children and his grandchildren - four generations.” 140 divided by 4 = 35.

  And Jehovah`s Witnesses are supposed to be Bible students .
