It's truly sad that at 18 your son has a serious alcohol problem. I hope he can conquer that.
From speaking to his 1st Sgt, they are making him go because he's underage. That I still do not understand How can yo be old enough to kill someone but not old enough to drink a beer? Someone sent me this, and I was shocked. I guess if he was at Ft Bliss, he wouldn't be in trouble at all.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legal_drinking_age
Underage purchase of alcohol, though illegal in all fifty states, is not a felony, but a misdemeanour. See Underage drinking in the United States. Additionally, exceptions exist on certain military installations, for instance Fort Bliss, Texas, where the Commanding General lowered the age to 18 to reduce the number of soldiers traveling out of the country to nearby Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, to drink. Congress is considering changing the law to 18

I did give him your advice. From now on he'll have some buddies with him. Thank you.
From one mama bear to another, good luck and God bless both you and your son.

You will never get the full story.
I am not offering suggestions to stir up flaming comments. I just suggest that the whole thing
needs to be handled by him. I am glad he is handling it. He sounded bright and caring to
try to minimize it after your recent hospitalization. I fully agree that it was outrageous for
10 strangers to attack him and beat him because he threw an aluminum can back at them.
I know I will probably not get the whole story, but they are prosecuting the guys and not my son. Also, there were witnesses apparantly who signed statements. I'm out of it now, except to get updates on the ones who beat him up. I'm just sooooooo thankful he's ok. It's bad enough having to worry about him going to Iraq. But this was just crazy.
Thank you for understanding, AGuest.
One other thing...even though I know he's underage and is not supposed to be drinking, I just think it's crazy too that you can be old enough to shoot and kill someone legally, but not old enough to have a beer afterwards. Somehow that just doesn't compute.

My opinion is that they are sending a message to your son.
Only he and they (and perhaps a few higher-ups nearby) know
what the message is.In boot camp, they used to throw a blanket over a guy so he
couldn't identify who was hitting him. They would do this to
someone who was not getting with the program. If the guy
didn't clean himself, they threw a shower party where they
scrubbed him with toilet brushes in the shower from head to
toe. To boldly do it when they could be identified means they
sent a strong message, or they were too drunk to think about it.The answer to sending a message is not to get your mother involved.
It is to answer the message yourself. He can be a man by handling
it his own way.I don't agree with the method used here. It's just an opinion of what
they may have done. If he were to use this as a way to get out of the
military, so be it. If he gets stronger because of it, great. These men
are going to put their lives on the line and need to count on others.
They want to count on your son as much as he wants to count on them.
Let him do what he thinks is best and stay out of it.They were way drunk. They didn't even know my son. Ft Hood is huge, and he was all the way across the base away from his barracks visiting his friend from High School. He doesn't want to leave the Army. He did handle it his own way, filed a report, and all I ended up doing was asking to be kept informed.

First, is he in boot camp or has he graduated from boot camp?I was in the Navy in the 60's; so, I don't know what has changed. You will always have Asholes and you can't get away from them.
In boot camp there is no alcohol. I didn't know you could drink openly on base.
My son is out of boot camp. He is a mechanic. He did basic at Ft. Jackson in SC. As of now they are making him sign up for an alcohol program for underage drinking. He is only in trouble with his Sgt and company. The other guys, and there were at least 10 according to witnesses, are in serious trouble with the MP's and "law."
I have a friend on another board who is actually stationed at Ft Hood. I have never met her in RL, but she is amazing. This woman actually went and found my son in his barracks, called me while she was hugging him and inviting him to her house for dinner, and assured me he was ok and his face was looking better. Never underestimate the power of the Internet! She's going to keep me updated with the investigation too.
Sorry guys...but "mothers" rock!

Thank you guys for all the advice. I didn't read this board until now. Sorry.
Believe me when I say I know my son, and I know there are two sides to everything. I know he was drinking too, but he was alone and going to see a friend.
I have a friend who's been in the Army for a long time and is an EO (Equal Opportunity) rep on base. He told me this....
I would stop short of calling it a racially motivated attack since the 10 had been sitting around drinking, but it would definitely bear looking into because of the gang issues that have surrounded Ft. Hood in the last few years.
As a parent, the first person you should contact is your son's company/unit commander. If he get a bit tightlipped, or tries to put you off in any way, then immediately request to speak to either the Battalion Commander or Command Sergeant Major....and keep on climbing the chain of command (brigade commander/CSM, division and so on) until they tell you the truth. Don't let them hit you with the vague "we're looking into it"...hold their feet to the fire and MAKE them put you on the contact list. I would suggest calling every 2 or 3 days to get the info you deserve to have...and also call the post hospital to make sure that they're following up on your son....I hate to even suggest that glossing over the facts is a possibility, but I can tell you from experience that they will downplay it as "boys being boys" and having too much to drink...DON'T LET THEM!! If all else fails (I maintain my plausible deniability on this piece of advice) and they try to blow smoke up your ass, call your congressman.....trust me, THAT will light a fire under some asses with the quickness...
I can get fried for saying a lot of what I say out there...but as I said, I'm an EO rep and I would definitely try to get either their unit/post EO involved or submit a complaint to the Inspector General (IG) as soon as possible because your son's unit is probably gonna get into damage control mode real quick like.
I am so very embarrassed for the behavior of the troops involved in this...please believe that even though we have some idiots in the ranks of all shades and races, the great majority of us do represent what most folks consider the right way to be....please let me know if you need any other advice...and please pass my apologies as a Senior NCO to your son.So, I did call and spoke to his 1st Sgt. who was very nice. I agree with my friend about the racial thing. I was just so angry I was looking for some/any reason for it. My son had already filed a report on his own, and was writing another statement as to what happened when I called him. Another 1st Sgt was telling me they were definitely investigating. So, he made the decision to report and go forward. I basically just asked to be called and told what was happening.
I was given another # to call and spoke to a female Sgt who was very rude. She gave me a totally different story from the other Sgt. She told me no one should have spoken to me, for me not to call back, and the Army would handle it. I asked for her superior, who was extremely nice, apologized, and I'm waiting for a call back from him. I also called Darnell Medical on base to make sure he's ok. His jaw isn't fractured, thank goodness, and the swelling is going down.
Yes, I calmed down a bit today, and yes, I know he is a man now. Yes, he made the decision to join the Army. But he didn't sign up to get jumped like that by his own "brothers in arms." How can these soldiers be trusted to save your life in the field when they beat the hell out of you at home?" I don't understand it. I never will.
AGuest, I am a pacifist, so I abhor any and all violence. Not because of being a former witness, but because it's wrong, IMO So, you can understand how hard it was for me to come to grips with his choice, but I did, and I will love him no matter what. This kind of violence is just beyond me.
I know my son probably embellished some, but there were witness statements too. So, hopefully, I will find out what actually happened. This has taken a toll on me, and I am exhausted. Again, thank you all. I've never been through something like this, and I guess you live and learn, right?

Right now I am so furious and sick and I need some serious advice and help. I got a call from my son at Ft. Hood, TX last night and we talked for an hour. I noticed something in his voice, but I thought everything was cool. NOT!!! Later on I received another call from my son, who initially was not going to tell me wtf was going on. With my recent hospitalization, my son said he did not want to upset me.
This was my son, Gabriel, when he went into the Army @ 18...against my wishes, but he made the decision on his own.
And this is my son as of yesterday after being jumped on by 10 of his fellow soldiers.
He went across Ft Hood to his friends barracks. He said he was just going to visit his friend from HS who joined the Army with him, and these guys he didn't even know were drinking and sitting around, and one of them said my son "looked" at him funny. Then threw a beer can at my son. My son, Gabriel, picked it up and threw it back, and all 10 of these idiots jumped at once. They were ALL WHITE!!! So, I'm wondering if it was racially motivated.
He says they also jumped someone else the same day. Is this some sort of fucking gang or something???? He says when the MP's came they all ran. Gabriel told me they are conducting an investigation. But I'm not waiting for that. This is bullshit. Of course I know my son, and there's probably more to the story, but even so, 10 guys jumping on one is fucked up.
He said they had to do a CAT scan, and he thinks his jaw is fractured because he can't eat. He's also having bad headaches. He doesn't even remember if he was unconscious.
WTF kind of army do we have where soldiers jump on each other??? I mean, I can see a fight every now and then, one on one, or even two on one, but 10 damned soldiers jumping on one of their own????? What the fuck happened to honor????
I need advice...I know there are people here in the military, aren't there????? I'd like to know what the best course of action is. Who should I contact? His CO? All I know is I am calling that base tomorrow and someone better tell me something. I am raising so much fucking hell. I know my son is a man, but fuck this. He could have been killed. I'm sitting here thinking..."Oh, as long as they don't send him to Iraq, he'll be ok..." YEAH RIGHT....
He's not even safe on his own damned base???? I'm so glad he took pics, and I told him to take some more. I just need to know what I CAN do. Since he is 18, can I do anything???? I want to press charges on these cowardly fucking bastards. I mean, I'm thinking the Army might tell Gabriel NOT to say anything or try to get some action taken. So, what are my options? Can he get leave to come home???
OMG I AM SOOOOO ANGRY>You will have to excuse my language as I usually do not curse like this, but my head is about to explode.

Jesus warned us about worshipping in churches!
by sacolton inwhat did jesus mean when he warned that many would claim that christ was in the "inner rooms" in the last days (matthew 24: 23-27)?
the kjv doesn't call them inner rooms, it calls them "secret rooms".. the "inner rooms" were the holy of holies of the jewish temple.
in this day and age, those religions or secret societies who claim to possess hidden knowledge and priviledged information about things divine and occult can be considered the "inner room" or "secret room".. they will claim that jesus is "one of them", but not divine.. all religions claim to be the "true church" ... isn't this what jesus was warning us about?.

Why is this in tech support?
IMO, any religion that claims to be the "only true" one is suspect.

Obama's Comments on 'Small Town' Voters- Sadly, he nailed it
by nvrgnbk incall him an elitist if you will, but he simply voiced an honest observation.
in rural pa, many people tend to vote based on the fear that the dems will force them to have abortions, confiscate their hunting rifles, burn their bibles, and make interracial gay marriages mandatory for their children.
economic stimulus and improved educational opportunities be damned!.

Not everyone is spinning it. I agree with flipper. Obama doesn't say what he thinks people want to hear. He just tells it like it is.

Maybe they should take a lesson from Catholics. At least in that faith they are allowed to speak out and band together to stop wrongdoing without fear of being shunned and disfellowshipped. If only MANY JWS would speak out. They can't DFS them all, can they?
