Just Got Back From My First Assembly " Take Refuge in Jehovah! "

thought i'd start a new topic on my experience.................... just got back from the above assembly.......... here is my take on my first and last assembly.

9:40 song and prayer - half the people were still in the toilet...and no one was singing, i didn't have a song book (i am worldy you see!!

) so i just stood and stared at the odd looking fella on the stage miming, rather than singing!.

Basically talk went along the lines of just like the only people who survived the Tsunami a few years ago took to the high ground and they were helped there by a biologist who recognised the warning signs....

But I thought the speaker said:

" There are 2 types of worldly experts.....those that don't know what they are talking about and those that don't realise that they don't know what they are talking about"........

I noticed this too, jamie... and started to comment. Do they even realize what they are saying?

New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures...

if i'm not mistaken, werent the committee of brothers who translated this bible: nathan knorr, albert scheoder, george gangas, fredrick franz.

wasnt fredrick franz the only scholarly person (or somewhat scholarly) person who was 'somewhat qualified' to translate any type of biblical greek, hebrew, etc?.

I cant consciencely hand someone a watchtower knowing this.

Good for you Joliette. Someone else told me the same thing--that it doesn't matter who translates or if some of the scriptures were changed. WTH??? If that's the case then we wouldn't be able to trust anything we ever read.

i don't know where he's an elder, but times have sure changed.

mimric i have never posted on this site but i have followed for 5yrs and i think its time because of this last post.

^^ no blacksheep. Not since the 15th when I told him the "old" articles and talk were from 2005. Not one word. So predictable.

Last night I had a little chat with a guy who claims he's not a witness but says it doesn't matter that the NWT was mistranslated and it didn't matter that the ones who did the translating didn't have the skills to do so. LOLOLOLOL

What are these people smokin'??? LOL

Live music in the Kingdom Halls

i recall being young and having a lovely solo pianist accompanying the singing in our hall.. in around the late 70's the obligatory (canned, sad) recorded music replaced live musicians.. anyone have any more detailed memories of live music and the subsequent changeover?.

@ leavingwt---This would be great, if I were in Brother Prince Nelson's Kingdom Hall.

My mother played at the KH too. She was pretty good and I did like the live music better. I remember a nice brother--Milovich/Malcovich I think?? Who would go around tuning all the pianos in the halls in South Carolina and at the conventions. I think they probably stopped because no one was taking the time anymore to give their children music lessons. 4 and 5 year olds like me and my sis were out in service all the time.

outlaw, you are so bad.

Oh Prince tries to clean up his lyrics but he can't help himself. Some of his new songs and videos are more than a little questionable. I pointed this out to a 'sister' on his site and she said he could have been talking about spirituality. LOL riiigghhhttt!!!! Then she said, "Anyway, I'm married so my husband and I are allowed to listen to sexual songs!" Alrighty then. Must be new light too. LOL

Black Sheep...I have challenged them until I turned purple. Like you said, they always disappear until the coast is clear or they think I've forgotten. Like it's always been...if you are rich or a celebrity in the org, you can get away with murder and the sheep will defend you till Armageddon.

once again our lurking jw friend sent us the oct. 15th jw study version for the wt studies.

in this article you'll observe the wt society really making jehovah's witnesses question themselves, doubt themselves - even if what they are observing the organization doing - they are not to doubt jehovah or the organization, but their own imperfect human judgments.

in other words : " don't trust your own mind - it's skewed ".. under the article titled, " keep on seeking first his righteousness " on pg.8 it lays the groundwork in stating, " seeking his righteousness includes trying to live according to his values, and perfect standards, not our own.
