July 2013 Watchtower which says “In the larger fulfillment, the “standing” will occur when the United Nations (the modern-day “disgusting thing”) attacks Christendom (which is holy in the eyes of nominal Christians) and the rest of Babylon the Great. The same attack is described at Revelation 17:16-18. That event will be the beginning of the great tribulation.”

In 2018 they made this change,

Clarification: Conditions in unfaithful Jerusalem—such as idolatry and widespread corruption—remind us of Christendom, but we no longer refer to Christendom as the antitypical Jerusalem.

So, if the is the case what is the holy place/Jerusalem that the UN/DT is supposed to stand in/attack?

I said this already elsewhere:

When using the word anointed from JW world, they are referring to those chosen to rule with Jesus.

The time of the 8th king and taking the MOTB has not come yet, therefore no one has been forced to take it or refuse it.

No one from the WTS from its start in 1879 to the present that have died already could have been chosen to rule with Jesus according to what is said about those chosen to rule with him, at least where it refers to the MOTB.

[4 And I saw thrones, and those who sat on them were given authority to judge. Yes, I saw the souls of those executed for the witness they gave about Jesus and for speaking about God, and those who had not worshipped the wild beast or its image and had not received the mark on their forehead and on their hand. And they came to life and ruled as kings with the Christ for 1,000 years.]

Partaking means nothing in regard to being chosen to rule with Jesus. If one was not killed for their faith in God and in Jesus or living during the time of the 8th king and was then killed while faithfully refusing him, they are not of the anointed to be chosen to rule with Jesus.

[9 When he opened the fifth seal, I saw underneath the altar the souls of those slaughtered because of the word of God and because of the witness they had given. 10 They shouted with a loud voice, saying: “Until when, Sovereign Lord, holy and true, are you refraining from judging and avenging our blood on those who dwell on the earth?” 11 And a white robe was given to each of them, and they were told to rest a little while longer, until the number was filled of their fellow slaves and their brothers who were about to be killed as they had been.]

So what was the old doctrine, and how is this change any different?

It was said the GT starts when all of the sudden out of the blue God will put it in the hearts of the UN and all nations (10 kings) to turn on BTG. That has been the thing JWs have been waiting to happen.

Now it is said that all of the sudden out of the blue God puts it in the hearts of the nations (10 kings) to give their power to the UN and once that happens, then the UN and nations will turn on BTG bringing on the GT.

1) Remember beast with deathstroke only had ruling authority 42 months. Beast from the earth would take its place: "He exercised all the ruling authority of the first beast on his behalf" (Rev. 13:12). "The second beast was empowered to give life to the image of the first beast" (Rev. 13:15 NET). First beast is no more. Beast from the earth brought to life a new beast.

No that is not the case. The beast the gets the death-stroke is from the sea. It gets the stroke at the point of it being the 7th king (present time). When it gets healed is when it is given the 42 months becoming the 8th king.

The beast from the earth never replaces the beast from sea, it works alongside of the beast of sea as a false prophet misleading people to follow it/worship it/takes its mark. The beast from the earth does not bring about a new beast, he brings about an image and mark of the beast from the sea. Remember the beast from the earth gets healed, not replaced.

The beast from the sea (8th king) and beast from the earth (false prophet) both get thrown into the fiery lake together when Jesus comes. That is when the beast from the sea is no more as well as the one from the earth. Rev 13:3,5,11-16;19:20

3) I'd say we are now at Rev. 6:8. Next is Rev. 6:12 (sixth seal).

No Rev 6:8 yet. When we are at that point, we will not be with internet typing away on this site.

The 6th seal comes after the GT/42 months. (Rev 6:12)

2) One hour is not equal to 42 months (3 1/2 years). (11:13; 17:12; 18:10, 17, 19; cf. 8:1).

The MOTB is given out during the 42 months the beast/8th king is in power. Taking the MOTB or refusing it is Jehovah's 'hour of judgment' upon mankind. Rev 14:7

I can just see Ayatollah Khamenei handing over power from Iran to the UN

That is what this is used for. Then after 2 billion are dead many will be eager for the UN to rule, they will be begging for it.

Perhaps Ayatollah Khamenei and the many like him will be among the 2 billion.

I wouldn't be surprised. IDK maybe they are part of the false prophet or work with to mislead people to take the MOTB, etc. Revelation 13:13,14;19:20

I have always been suspicious of how they could refer to Ted Turner has a refreshing individual.

LOL! That was said in 1961.

Just another thing the WTS/GB needs to adjust in their understanding/make a change is that there is no GC as of yet. None who have died since 61 and prior and who continue to die presently each day can be part of the said GC. This is because the GC is said to come out of the GT which is still yet to come. So, if one does not live during the time of the GT they cannot be part of the said GC that come out of it.

I'm not sure about WWIII as such - that suggests a coordinated, global (or near-global) war of the kind we saw in 1914-18 and 1939-45, and because we're in the nuclear age, would be very likely to lead to near-total destruction of the world.

I don’t see Russia, China or the Middle East Arab countries as following the UN if it conflicts with their interests.

[ 17 For God put it into their hearts to carry out his thought, yes, to carry out their one thought by giving their kingdom to the wild beast, until the words of God will have been accomplished.]

All needed nations will give their power to the UN when the time comes. This is necessary in order to bring about the 8th and final king that is used by God to serve as the 'hour of test'/hour of judgment'/'judgment on the house of God'. This 'hour' is the 42-month period of GT. It is only GT for those that are refusing to go along with the rule of the UN. Prior to the UN getting the power to become the 8th king, WW3 must occur, it is the death-stroke on the beast as the 7th king. The beast being revived is when it becomes the 8th king.

Surly nuclear weapons will be used to an extent, but it will not mean near-total destruction for the world, although it will seem like it during that time. It will serve to be the uniting cause to give their power to the UN, which will go along with the thought of God putting it into their hearts too do so.

they're pretending they have some new insight that's for a future time.
They've decided they got their interpretation wrong and that's because of their hand being forced with world events already taking place which they won't admit to.

Verse 17 - For God put it into their hearts to carry out his thought, yes to carry out their one thought by giving their kingdom to the wild beast until the words of God is accomplished' Now what is this one thought? Well up until now, we've said the one thought is their desire to turn on false religion. And we can understand that because the context is talking about the destruction of false religion. But you see, if you look back at that verse, what is the one thought? Now this means we have to adjust our understanding. Another change. What does it say? The one thought refers to the nations being willing to hand over power, their political power, to the scarlet coloured wild beast, the United Nations.

What fools the GB are and even bigger fools are those that follow them.

They are saying now that they need to adjust their understanding/make a change, based on actually reading what the verses say.

If JWs actually read the Bible and followed what it said instead of what the WTS/GB say, then they would have known all along what the verses said.

So up until now we have assumed these 10 Kings represent all the political powers and governments in the World at the moment. That they did this during the last days by supporting first of all, the league of nations and then the UN.
But now, what do we understand this to be seeing how we understand Vs 17? Well there will come a time when all political powers on earth, which includes many who have never been part of the 7 world powers. They will see that they need to collectively pool their power by giving it to the UN to try to solve some of the problems in the World. And they will rule, notice what does it say? For one hour, just a short period of time.
