I cleared my jw dad's house when he went into a care home. several car trips to the dump--including all those damn books and tons of magazines--going back over 50 years. also a large cardboard box full of old congregation records. i never kept a single thing.
Same here with my ex-elder father-in-law. He had bound volumes dating back to the 50's and piles of books. The local KH didn't want it so we boxed it all up and hauled it in his old pickup truck out to the dump. I had thought about saving some of it for resale but our car was already packed with other stuff.
Ironically, his bound volumes showed me, a non-JW, the TTATT. I had stumbled across this website and initially thought some the claims and stories here were rather farfetched. When we would go to his place, I'd take some of the WT and Awake references and look them up in his bound volumes and found it was for REAL. Things like 1975, generation, blood, higher education, different bible, doctrinal changes, flip-flops, etc. It changed the way I viewed the JW religion.

''Faith in Action'' video....Jesus Disciples depicted with ''field service bags'' and preaching with ''Scrolls''

The image of Jesus' 1st century disciples walking about with "service bags", carrying scrolls from door to door, is one of those. Just so delightfully anachronistic.
In that time period, those scrolls would have had to be written by hand as they didn't have printing presses. What's more, the average householder would likely not be literate to read them.

Please Keep Your Religion Out Of My Mouth
by OnTheOutside ini came across this article about a dental technician forcing her religion down a patient's throat (literally).
turns out the technician is a jw.
it would appear she can count her time preaching to a captive audience and being paid on the job.

The article is written by the patient, a lesbian mother, from her viewpoint of the experience.

apparently the food is coming from a janesville hub and given to jws only.

As expected today, the food box was delivered to our house. Again through the USDA Farmers to Families program. It contained 2% milk, Yoplait bagged yogurt, Salisbury steak patties, chicken patties, apples, onions, cheese slices and potatoes. It also contained the same POTUS Trump letter plus Yogurt instructions.

My PIMI spouse's congregation gets theirs from Janesville also. It is the USDA Farmers to Families program. Surprisingly the letter from POTUS Trump was in there. I would have suspected one from the GB.
Two weeks ago, we went to the KH to pick one up. We drove up and outside someone placed it in our vehicle. No contact. Tomorrow we are supposed to get another one but instead they will be delivering it to our residence. It would seem more efficient for people to go pick it up and just deliver to the homebound. Did some higher-up put the kibosh on using the KH for pickup?

My PIMI wife's congregation had the same thing. Apparently the assembly hall was the central distribution point. Some elders went to that city and brought food back for local distribution from their kingdom hall. Here is the message sent to my wife:
Brothers/Sisters,It continues to amaze us how Jehovah cares for us spiritually and physically in these critical last days. In a world surrounded by chaos and unrest, we can have peace of mind knowing Jehovah and his organization provide for his people. Regarding the provisions for our congregation we wanted to provide some clear direction:1) These provisions are for us as a congregation. We may think that it is for only those that truly need it. However, in harmony with the direction to stay at home as much as possible and avoid crowded areas these provisions will assist many of us in doing that.2) If we really do not need any extra provisions, do we know of someone that could use our share? Could we come to the Kingdom Hall and drop it off for them?3) When coming to pick up your provisions please bring some grocery bags and possibly a cooler.4) Please wear PPE (i.e. masks and gloves) when coming to the KH.5) The provisions can be picked up at the Kingdom Hall from 11am-1pmFor those who are of higher risk, we have several brothers and sisters that are willing to drop provisions off for you. Please respond to this email or contact [elder name]. He is helping organize this. With Love,[congregation name] -

Article "Would You Stand up to an Opressive Regime or Would Conform? Here's the Science"
by Bill Covert inthere is a article on firefox "would you stand up to an oppressive regime or would you conform?
here's the science" taken from "the conversation" by nick chater.
10-9-2019.. perhaps someone with computer skills can copy and post this article on this forum.

Oppressive regimes tend to make extreme public examples of what happens to rebels and those that don't conform thus 'encouraging' those remaining to fall into line.
Does it seem that picture of the elder and the erring Witness looks like some hanky-panky about to happen? Their sleeves are touching and they look too close for comfort.

Covid-19 (Coronavirus) - Status Update Thread
by Simon inthis topic is to focus on status updates & advice (no opinion or politics please).. status.
latest status is that it's serious, probably isn't going to be contained and most large companies are making contingency plans, cancelling large events etc... which i don't think would happen if it was just people being alarmist.
the incubation period means it may have already spread further and infected many more people than are currently known, so expect jumps in the numbers over the coming days and weeks.. tracking.

My wife was informed today (Thursday) that her circuit assembly in Janesville, Wisconsin scheduled for March 14th, was cancelled. There has not been a lot of COVID-19 in the area.
