to be a witness you had to accept whatever spiritual food was being dished out.
even if it didn’t make any sense, we were expected to believe.
now that we are out of the cult, do you find yourself a person who doesn’t just accept the status quo?
Just because someone tells you something, do you tend to automatically question it, or do you revert to taking the course of least resistance?
I don't think anybody wants to be taken in, but part of avoiding it is learning how to do proper research, which means sifting through primary sources and not relying on somebody else to summarize them for you
It sounds easy, but it's not when we're constantly flooded with so much information all the time.
Perfect example:
Dr. Judy Mikovits, the controversial virologist, who made some astounding claims at the height of the pandemic got a lot of traction, even here on this site.
Those claims however are easily debunked simply by reading through her own scientific papers in the order in which she published them.
That however takes a couple of hours and who has time?
the queen's gambit is a 7 episode netflix miniseries about a female chess prodigy in the 1950's and 60's.. the story chronicles the life of the fictitious character, elizabeth harmon (anja taylor-joy) from the time she learns the game as an orphan clear up to the point where she defeats russian grand master, vasily borgov (marcin dorociński) to become the world champion.. female grandmasters are a rarity, so i was afraid the series was going to morph into an anti-male screed.
(it easily could have).
nearly every male character in the series, from the gruff but kindly william shaibel, the custodian at the orphanage who taught her the basics of the game and fronted her the money for her first tournament to vasily borgov himself is gracious and clearly delighted to play against a woman so talented in a sport dominated by men.. two notable exceptions were her pos adopted father who didn't care about her or his wife and a russian player who got a little salty when she kicked his butt in 21 moves.

very average in skill, but I surely love it.
I love chess too, but I'm only mediocre and will only ever be mediocre.
Oh well....

It didn't
Nearly every male character in the series, from the gruff but kindly William Shaibel, the custodian at the orphanage who taught her the basics of the game and fronted her the money for her first tournament to Vasily Borgov himself is gracious and clearly delighted to play against a woman so talented in a sport dominated by men.

One of the high points for me was when Elizabeth returned to the orphanage after Shaibel's death and saw the cork board where he had meticulously documented her career. Clearly he was as proud of her as if she had actually been his daughter.
One of the only criticisms of the series I've heard that had any merit as far as I'm concerned is that everybody is way too attractive for the roles they're playing, but that really doesn't detract from the story and comes across as petty.
Anja Taylor-Joy won a Golden Globe for her performance and it was well deserved IMO.
Two thumbs up from me
have you gone back to that- or lost you faith because of 'brothers'?.
I'm not sure what the right word is (Sad, funny, quixotic?) to describe the use of cult-speak in defense of what is claimed to be the one true faith....

I agree
ἡ γενεὰ αὕτη doesn't leave a lot of wiggle room. The generation was clearly something that existed at the time the words were spoken.
It's only through typology that JW's and kindred groups have given it a secondary meaning.
or do you think trump actually won???
?.
Recount in AZ resumes today.
Developments over the last week or so:
Subcontractor for Cyber Ninjas states that a database directory was deleted based on errors in his R-Studio technician software
Senate President Karen Fann demands a public response from the Board of Supervisors
Trump gets wind of it and claims the entire database was deleted
Board of Supervisors, which is actually more strongly Republican than the Senate, is furious at:
a. Being accused of something illegal
b. Facilitating Biden's victory in Maricopa County
Board of Supervisors fires back a 17 page technical response stating that subcontractor misconfigured his virtual RAID settings and pointing out that they have exact clones of the array which function perfectly.
Karen Fann laments the fact that BOS has taken this so personally
Attorney for the BOS sends Karen Fann a "hold letter" (i.e. Retain all documents) which usually means lawsuit
i hope this is in the right area.

The year 1914 was 107 years ago and we still await the kingdom...that is untenable and must be wrong
I have to agree.
The clock started ticking when the Great Crowd was identified. In order to have any prospect of surviving the great tribulation, those people needed to at least live to see it. Otherwise they were not even prospective members of the Great Crowd.
Although I admire Neil's tenacity after a fashion, the defense of 1914 only exacerbates this problem.
