  i'd say this roughly began with rey in the force awakens (2015).

  since about 2015, hollywood has congratulated itself and circle-jerked over the 'strong women' characters they've written.

  i'd say this roughly began with rey in the force awakens (2015).

  what hollywood forgets is that strong characters have to have a personality, otherwise audiences don't really relate to them.. well, hollywood should really stop patting themselves on the back as if they've done something special.. strong female characters have been a staple for decades.. here's one: private vasquez, from aliens (1986).

  Do You Think Trump Will Make A Comeback?

  Although I voted for him and would again, he can not seem to get out of his own way. He wants to respond to every stupid liberal idiot comment or insult.

  Remember how Ronald Reagan would smile and wave and just keep right on going no matter how provocative a question was shouted at him? I think there's probably a lesson to be learned in that.

  Thanks Earnest. I actually remember that thread, have a transcript myself and am still in agreement with Alan Feuerbacher on this. Any claim of direction above and beyond being a sincere student of the Bible crosses the line into inspiration

  Reinstatement? There is no Constitutional provision for that.

  Dr. Ryan Stone (Sandra Bullock) in Gravity.

  Erin Brockovich (Julia Roberts)

  Peggy Olson (Elizabeth Moss) in Mad Men. --A little more mundane, but definitely a strong character.

  Even in the Woke Era, I think Emily Blunt has done a lot of strong characters that do not fall into that pattern (Edge of Tomorrow, A Quiet Place, Sicario, etc.)

  Yes.

  Fred Franz declared in a 1940's court case that Jehovah was the editor of The Watchtower when in truth old Freddie was really the editor. So here you have the single most important member of the JW organization from the 40's clear up through the 70's claiming that he was for all practical purposes, inspired. And that idea was never repudiated

  It really comes down to the fact that JW leaders and policy makers want it both ways. They want to be regarded as more than sincere students of the Bible because all Christian religions have an identical and equal right to that claim. So they play fast and loose with definitions. They wrap themselves up in the notion of spirit direction, but deny that this qualifies as inspiration.

  That's semantic legerdemain because direction is a defining term of the word inspiration. The fundamental meaning is that the person or group has thought or acted in a way that would not otherwise have happened without at least a nudge in the right direction from God.
