  This one doesn't think he's being silly at all. On the contrary, his reasoned, detailed replies have set the matter straight for me and have convinced me that this whole issue is a nonentity, just more feeble hot air of bluster by those trying to blow the WT house down. Our ability to see through the issues demonstrates that JWs have more sense than you give us credit for. This is no scandal on the part of the WT. The only scandal is that opposers are throwing straws at the WT edifice that they think are bricks. Straws, folks. The scandal exists only in your own "gotta-stick-it-to-the-Watchtower" minds.

  i havent really had a chance to ask anyone about my favourite book - enoch, the book that apparently the church fathers tried to "remove".

  has anyone else here read the book of enoch, or the book of the secrets of enoch.if so what is your opinion, i found it to bear many similarities to revelation in certain places .

  also including a history of the angels who caused much mischief in noah's day is fascinating , references to the son of man in such detail and the concept of different heavens is interesting as well.

  Jude says he quotes Enoch, not the Book of Enoch. No one believes that the Book of Enoch was written by Enoch.

  Both Jude and the Book of Enoch could have got the quote from a third source, since that quote is all that Jude and the Book of Enoch have in common, and the Boof of Enoch has over 100 chapters.

  Is Jesus Mediator for the Great Crowd's prayers?

  the watchtower makes the claim that jesus is only mediator for the 144,000 because only they are in the new covenant.

  however i was looking on wikipedia.org and there is a statement that the watchtower does teach that jesus is mediator for the prayers of the great crowd.

  does anyone know if this is correct?

  We can see that Paul is addressing the issue of prayer in these verses, not Jesus acting as a mediator of the new covenant. There was no “great crowd” then, just Christians and non-Christians, and that Jesus was the only channel through which prayer could be offered to God by humans, not just the “anointed.”

  How come I never noticed that before? It's as clear as the nose on my face. Paul's context is prayer, not the new covenant. That makes sense because he is also speaking about the benefit of Jesus' mediation for everybody, or "all sorts of men," "for all."

  This idea that Jesus is the mediator for only the 144,000 never did make a lot of sense. Maybe the 144,000 are the only ones taken into the new covenant. But as you show, that is not even the focus of Paul's words about Jesus being the "one mediator between God and men." It is prayer.

  LOL, sounds familiar? Yeah, most of it is from the Bible, that Dread, Secret Masonic Book!

  The author proves nothing except that Russell and Masons read the Bible and adopted similar Biblical terminology at times.

  Most learned men of Russell's time knew something of Freemasonry. That did not make them Masons or even sympathetic to Masonry.

  Why not make a case for God Himself being a Mason? Didn't He say, "I will guide thee with Mine eye?" (Psalm 32:8) That All-Seeing Eye! Pure Masonic stuff! And that verse about the "Sun of righteousness arising with healing in his wings"! Lawd ha' mussy, how much more Masonic can you get? See! See! It's all a conspiracy, a Masonic cabal. Ban the Bible before the New World Order assimilates everyone. Jabulon!

  JWs and the Judaic influence

  the jws feel like a judaic religion thinly disguised as christianity, they are the organisation of jehovah and not the church of christ, everything is jehovah centred while christ the head of the church is relegated to the margins, virtually all jws refuse to participate in the christian new covenent, their mindset is very works and not grace oriented, they really too heavily on the old testament and as if all that is not bad enough they claim to be the only true christian religion and viciously denigrate christian religions as apostate christendom and babylon.

  i can see there a strong jewish influence and not surprisingly since russelll and rutherford, at least early in his presidency, were closely allied with the jews and supported by them.

  any comments?

  Funny, last week some posters were accusing JWs of being antisemitic friends of Adolf....

  Jesus was Jewish, Peter, Paul, and Mary (not the singing group) were Jewish, most of the first Christians were Jewish, Paul even boasted of being a Pharisee (in the present tense, no less), the essential early doctrines of Christianity were Jewish (leaning heavily toward Pharisee teachings). Christianity began as a Jewish sect.

  So what's wrong about retaining a little Judaism?

  Peter said that the Christians were called to be a people for God's name (Acts 15:14). Jesus came to do his Father's will and honored his Father by obedience unto death.

  Like it or not, Christianity is bound up with Jehovah. Christ is the head of the Church, but God is the head of Christ. (1 Corinthians 11:3, Ephesians 5:23)

  A Jehovah-less Christianity is not the Christianity of Jesus Christ.

  i am trying to find more info on past racism in the watchtower org., especially about rutherford.. i have 4 books written by j.f.

  rutherford, and i'm trying to find anything in them pertaining to racism, using keywords in the index, but so far, i haven't found anything.

  Rutherford??? Who cares about Rutherford? This is 2006 and if the best that can be found is some quotes from the 1930s, by a man long dead, after all the millions of words that have been printed in WT publications, what really does this prove about JWs?

  i just found some very revealing information in the branch organization manual.. 1. they admit that bible translators do not need to know hebrew or greek.

  2. they admit that the reason the authors' names are omitted is primarily to protect the organization and the authors from liability.. all bold letters are original... i added the yellow highlight and red text.. branch organization manual: page 25-5.

  Of course it's about translating the English NWT into other languages. In which case none of this is as unusual or as sinister as it's being made out to be, or even all that interesting.
