Well, do what you think is best, Prisca. I just couldn't imagine anyone that we know who'd stoop that low or be so stoopid. Hmmm... live and learn, I guess, live and learn.

Sci-Fi Fans Only: A.I.
by Maximus ini hear tell there are some aficionados out there.. as a young man i secretly loved ray bradbury, isaac asimov, l. sprague decamp, poul anderson, arthur c. clarke and others.
loved brian aldiss' "super-toys last all summer.".
when the movie "2001: a space odyssey" premiered, i sneaked into a theater all by myself, and was blown away.

Seeker,
I asked: what WAS the obelisk in 2001?
You replied:
An alien device designed to observe and spur on the evolution of man. Every time it appears (except on the moon where it seems to be more of a communication device), man makes another leap forward in the evolutionary timeline. That's interesting. I'd always thought it was a symbol of something, like "intuition," that allowed, even forced, sentient beings to take a leap of faith, as it were. To make a jump in their own evolution. I thought the movie petered out at the end, though. It was disappointing to me. Contact was the same way--awesome and believable until the last ten minutes.

One thing I won't be doing this summer is sending threatening emails and blocking the receiver from making a reply.
Bit cowardly of the sender, don't you think, tina?
Btw, Prisca, I happened to see this rather cryptic post of yours. It's the hardest thing for me to figure out.
But, ya know, if someone is sending you certain kinds of emails, the American police agency the FBI ( http://www.fbi.gov/)is very involved in tracking down the originators of such. They have even been known to cross national borders!
Inherent in all emails is technical info which allows them to track emails to a single computer. Impressive how they do that! I've been waiting for such an email myself just so that I could see how good they really are.
FYI.

Hello, my Friend.
Seeing the movie was already on my list of things to do. Done much reading about it and its themes... very interested to see how Spielberg handles current issues that seem to be important to him.
As to your question, my answer is "of course."
peace,
toddps. I'll get back to you after I see it.
pps. what WAS the obelisk in 2001?

So, Rochelle, (and oh, btw, yes, you are most generous. Thank you...)
You said:
Of course. I've beaten Xenogears once already, and I'm about six hours away from doing it again.Of course? You say "of course"? Is winning easy or are you just good? And, uh.... "six hours"? It takes six hours to play ONE game?
When I asked if you'd ever done the deed--killed God--you said:
The game makes that relatively easy, 'cause this particular God is a mindless, cruel, selfish monster that would destroy humanity if it were allowed to keep living.Hmmm... I think I've heard of this god...
Interesting.

Wolfy (a newbie to the board but not in life) said:
It all came to a head when I had a part on the CA..You know..I gave my exerience and at the end I said that I would continue my witnessing efforts as I went to Community College...
Man..The shit hit the fan...I was called into a meeting with the DO..Just the two of us and he informed me that I should not have given that expeience as I was pursuing secondary education...
Asked me if I was a MS...Just shook his head and said I was not allowed to give my exerience at the assmebly the following weekend..I was so angry...
I heard he chewed out the CO and blamed him...The CO was a very intelligent man who used to work as a writer or reporter for a newspaper...
I wonder who that CO was. He had to know that he was going out on a flimsy limb to let Wolfy give his experience, at a Circuit Assembly no less where scores of young people were sure to hear it. I've had a part on a CA--they still rehearse them several times before the actual event, don't they?
People like that nameless CO make me wonder. I wonder how many true men like him are out there, taking a chance here and there, quietly going about their business, chipping away at the bricks.

Headcoverings, Goals & Women's Roles
by Black Man ini have always felt that requiring sisters to wear headcoverings was assinine.
jehovah won't strike you down for not wearing a headcovering".

Wow, aChristian... this must be one of your all-time favorite subjects, huh? <g>
Anyways, say... Black Man, I was wondering about something... you said in your opening post something about a... a... a... GOT-DAMN headcovering? I was just curious about what that was--in all my 30+ years of association, I'd never heard of such a thing.
Does it make reference to the color? Or the material? The overall weight of the article? Is a GOT-DAMN headcovering a "dirty" headcovering? Was it a GOT-DAMN headcovering before or after the CO made his profound observation? Is it that the angels look upon it as a GOT-DAMN article of clothing, seeing that it forces them, whenever they see one, to always remember that they ain't such tough shit--I mean, after all, above them is the seraphs and the cherubs and then the mighty Arch, not to speak of the Man himself. Hmmmm... curious... very curious. A GOT-DAMN headcovering. Hmm....................
You know, Black Man, while I'm here I may as well tell you something that applies, not only to you, but to several of the other posters here. It's a very fine thing that I didn't run across an elder with your common sense sensibilities as I began my research and eventual exit of the organization years ago. If I had, I'd very likely still be a dub.
Still, that GOT-DAMN headcovering has me scratchin' my head, big fella. Must be a New Yawk thang?
peace, bro-ham,

Clear as Ink
by Norm inanybody who studies the christian religion and in particular the fundamentalist part, will soon discover how important the devil is.
he comes in handy in all kinds of situations.
when a fundamentalist is cornered and unable to answer questions he can always accuse his opponent of being an agent of the devil.

Yes, somebody, would you? Would you please email me that "sheep and goats" article? [email protected]. I'd be so grateful...
However, the fact that the separation of people to life or to death
mentioned at Matthew 25:32 is yet future does not mean that no separating,
or dividing, occurs before that. ---- w97 7/1 30-1 QFRSo, there HAS been a separating work, but NOT. Why are you so intent on confusing me further, Norm? Must you? I guess it's one of those teachings that they called... oh what was it? Oh yes... "DEEEEEEP."
You know somebody... Norm... all of these quotes from you guys has made me so angry with myself for having allowed my subscription to lapse--I just don't know what to do with myself! Ohhhh, I know, I could take a look at one those my wife brings in after she picks up her order at the magazine counter, but the anticipation of having my very own issue come in the mail straight from the God's very own House, addressed to me personally, ripping that limp brown wrapper off as if it were a Christmas present has made those wonderful articles of truth so... so... oh, I DO miss it so!
