My Mom's reaction to the Dateline show

i posted earlier today that mom thought the show was well done but she thought they made some "cheap shots" too.

tonight, after dinner, i asked her what she thought were the cheap shots.

i could tell she had trouble remembering, but said this: "i am sure there are some cases of molestation, like the ones they discussed on the show, that were handled badly, but there are so many that are handled in the right way.

I know what you mean. I guess she thinks that only a few cases out of millions are molesters and the show made it look like elders purposefully hid them.. or something like that. She kept saying how this was Satan's works to attack the Org...

Amazing Survived Major Heart Attack

i just spoke on the phone to amazing (jim whitney) who is in intensive care in a chicago hospital.

on monday he had a major heart attack, had a stint put in an artery to unblock things and may have bypass surgery.

he's comfortable enough right now, but of course will have to make some big lifestyle changes.

Amazing may not remember me..but once I emailed him about some questions and he promptly replied saying he would try to give me a lengthy answer. Over a month passed..and I thought maybe I'd never hear from him. You can imagine my shock when I got an email from him ...very sweet and long..and very encouraging. He said he tucked my email in his 'to respond' file. What a nice guy! He was so kind to give me some positive thoughts!

my df'd mother watched it last night. I called her to ask what she thought...she was crying...( I should mention she is not the most emotionally/mentally stable person around..)

I just am so hurt that Satan is using television to hurt Jehovahs people. I mean..I know the Bible said it would happen...but I cant believe it is happening. To SEE it happen! It hurts me so much! I heard that Kingdom Melody music and broke down..how could they hurt Jehovahs people?

I had to remind her that although she went on and on about how she felt, imagine how those poor molested victims felt!! To this, she responded, yeah, yeah, I know, but those are only a few out of millions. They took it all out of context!

So you can be in or out folks, and be more brainwashed than ever.....

simon is biased his friends do as they like cursing and name calling all.

I completely agree... I dont understand why people attack Simon. He does not over moderate or control excessively at all! If anyone here goes to other message boards, which I have in the past, there are some who will delete anything you say that they dont agree with. I think he is very patient and forgiving of posters...

When you think about it, it's his board. We come in, wipe our feet on his rug, drink his beer, change his tv and then complain if he says anything about it! He has been nothing but totally cool and respectful to me. I guess you get what you give....

this afternoon while wasting time at the promenade mall, in temecula, ca (southern cal) i had a hard time containing my laughter.

just in front of me were two women behind a table full of wbts literature.

what caught my eye was a young people ask sign.

The "barf" Bethel visit

my jw daughter came over monday to tell me all about her visit to bethel!.

first, she said how happy she felt and so very emotional when they took them, (a group of 8) to where the "twelve goberning body" held their meetings.

she said: "mom, i got to see where they sit!".

Dont I know this!! The former love of my life, a faithful jw turned Bethelite showed me this in fine format. Wherever we went(as a group), it was just assumed that one of us would pay his share. Aargh!

ok even at my old age[8>] i still like the super hero action flicks.. the better ones anyway.

the first superman, the first batman and even some of the sequels to bat man were not bad.. how ever this week-end it seemed like everyone went to see spiderman all at once so i didn't go yet.. they just gave the stats on the news.. spiderman grossed over $$$114,000,000.00 so far and still counting.. did anyone go see it this week-end????.

I never understood how we arent supposed to put alot of emphasis on people or their positions...but just watch a jw at Bethel... all slack-jawed and wide-eyed. They feel blessed to even eat in the same room as a Bethelite or Overseer!

Makes me remember all the times we had an overseer over for dinner. My mom would scour the house, tell us to be on our ultra-good behavior.. then, when he and his wife came in, everyone rushed to get his seat, get a drink, etc. It was like having the king and queen of England over. Everything that came out of their mouths was greeted with 'oohs' and 'aahs'.

Very interesting post, Met!!

I too, have wondered about this. When I was little, I would pray at night and would say, 'Thank you also, Jesus....' and my mother was quick to admonish me that we never address Jesus in prayer, only Jehovah.

It is something that I never noticed until I left the jw's. But it is very true... being a jw, you never hear much about Jesus.

Once, when I went to pick up a sister for a meeting, I waited for her in her living room and noticed a wooden sign that had 'Jesus' engraved in it. This surprised me greatly, since it was something that a jw would NOT have. I mentioned it to my mother and she too was quite surprised.. then assumed it had to do with the sister being black and from the south, so it was deep-seated in their culture.
