  Questions about WT illustrations

  when i was a kid....i used to look at the wt illustrations of paradise conditions and would day dream about life in the new system....i later used this same technique (shame on me) to brain wash bible students.

  however...as i grew up lol (apparently!

  ) the illustrations changed....and became more modern.

  Hey Beck! Good to see ya! I always enjoy your posts.

  Dang girl, you sure did have alot of time on your hands! LOL Inquiring minds wanna know! Actually, I thought some of the very things that you did... what always got me was, they would tell you how we would be able to learn about ANYTHING, do deep research on any hobby we had, travel...yet in every damn picture there would be a couple with plain clothes, picking apples and their kids with a basket of vegetables! I used to tell my parents,'But I dont want to pick vegetables and apples every day! I also wondered how would we travel, without airplanes that pollute the skies.
  When I was little I would try to picture myself there.. a big house, nice yard, and sitting there, bored as hell and picking apples. A sister once told me that there would be daily meetings to serve Jehovah. I remember thinking,'oh great! As if 3 nights a week wasnt bad enough!'

  OMG you guys are GROSSING ME OUT!!!!!

  Ugh!

  That reminds me of when I saw one of the Star Trek movies, where they pull out little slimy wormie things and slip them in people's ears...they would cause pain and make people crazy!!!

  Yikes! I'm going to stomp on anything that moves in my house now! That is so damn gross!!!!

  Memorable Prayers meetings / assemblies???

  any outstanding prayers that you can remember / recall?.

  we had one brother here who was renowned for his very long prayers, sometimes running to as much as 15 minutes in length.

  congregational members would have to leave halfway through to catch taxi's etc, he was a dear old soul though, in his younger days before he kicked the bucket, he was a wheelwright, probaly one of the last of his particular craft, repairing horse drawn carriages.. another brother at the convention was known for the shortest prayer, he just said thankyou 3 times and that was it.. once we had the co visiting, george hilton his name was, cheerful old sod from yorkshire, it was the aux pio and reg pio meeting.

  It's posts like these that make my day and crack me up!

  I knew one elder who was pretty hefty and would sit, legs wide open for bookstudy. His crotch was visibly trying to bulge from his 4 sizes too small slacks and it would be so embarrassing for us....during the prayer, he would lean forward, making it bulge even more. Even his shirt was stretching at the buttons..I always wondered if they would make it through the whole meeting.

  god, he perplexes me.

  sometimes i want to give him a clip around the ear, other times i feel sorry for him, maybe he too gets lonely at times, who knows.. anyway, i got to thinking sometimes, being made in the image of god an all that, that the human body ain't half a weird and wonderful machine.

  now, what blueprint did god use for the creation and clay mould of our physical form?.

  We Need Money

  Very good ideas... I have thought the same thing. There doesnt seem to be enough 'organization' among many ex-jws. I mean, getting together for association is fine, but there doesnt seem to be much going on in the way of moving forward, making steps toward getting the word out about blood reform, child abuse, etc.

  One other thing: let’s not call our efforts “Apost-0-“ anything. Words derived from
  “apostate” are all derogatory and this disparaging term is applied by the WTS in an effort
  to “stop-thought” on the part of their adherents. Lets come up with a positive
  term/name for ourselves that reflects the good work that we wish to accomplish on
  behalf of our friends and family.

  I agree wholeheartedly! Suggestions are needed.... how about LifeNet or FreeLine.. I dunno..something that gives you the image of a person throwing out a lifesaver, trying to save your loved ones?

  Nice to meet ya! I'm always excited to see a new 'face' round here!

  I too, love Jehovah while not the Organization. When I first came here, I was an inactive Witness, but now do not feel any urge to go back. I have found a much more freeing, close and loving relationship with God now that I dont go to the Hall. Think about it, did you like people telling you how to talk to your Father, how He thinks of you...dictating every little part of your life? I have found that I can still be a Christian without jumping through the jw hoops.

  I understand what she's saying here... it is important to rely on God and strengthen your relationship with Him. The problem is, you cannot 'not listen to the wtbts' and be in good standing as a jw. When you enter the Hall, you are opening yourself to every little 'tweeking' they desire to do with you. I thought for myself for years as a jw, and was looked at as a 'rebel' and a freak. Now that I'm out, I see I wasnt so wierd, just an intelligent person who thought for myself.

  To stay or leave....

  it probably sounds crazy to post this on a forum where "alias" individuals will respond - but i really would like to hear from some of you who may have been in this situation before.. i'm at a cross roads in my marriage and need to decide whether to stay or leave.. long story short:.

  hubby is basically a good man - good father, but i am not happy.

  i have not been for a long time now.

  I'm sorry to hear your life isnt going where you want it to. I can honestly say the exact things you are saying were in my own head a few years ago. My husband was pretty selfish...not neccesarily a bad person, but didnt think of others. I came to the point where I was going to leave him, or stay. I didnt want my son raised in a broken home, like I was... I sat my husband down and told him my thoughts. I told him that I had been thinking of leaving, and did he want that? He didnt, and we worked on alot of our problems. His main thing was he took us for granted...never showed appreciation or much affection. Alot of that has changed, but its taken work on boh parts, him and myself.

  If you talked to your husband, do you think he would listen? I would tell him your doubts, how you are not happy, and though you want to raise your kids with him, you also need to be fulfilled and happy yourself. If he cares, he will do everything in his power to change. If he doesnt care, he will blow it off and let you go.

  If you can find an affordable marriage therapist, I would encourage you to see one. We saw a counselor (she wasnt specifically for marriage partners), but taught us how to communicate alot better.

  Things wont happen overnight...but with alot of work and love, it can happen!

  AlanF gave me a virus!

  not the one that posts here...but i recently received an email from an 'alanf' saying there was important info inside.

  when i opened it, it did nothing.

  turns out it was a virus and thankfully i got rid of it.

  I'm not in the medical profession..but it seems to me, having grown up a JW, they are only leary of anything that might require a blood transfusion.

  For instance, I was diagnosed with kidney problems when I was 5 and they wanted to do alot of tests. That was fine, but when they said I needed a biopsy and a transfusion MIGHT be needed, the elders told us it would be wise to not have a biopsy done.

  I dont think they'd be against tonsils removed or anything of that nature...just something that might make you bleed alot and make them want to fill you up with blood!
