Amazing coincidence ... what are the odds!
by Simon ini saw this on a tv programme a year or so ago and thought of it today for some reason:.
a wages clerk at a small company was working on the payslips when she noticed a mistake with one of the employees wages.
as it was his day off but the wages had to be paid into the bank that day she decided to ring him up to check on whatever the problem was.. he answers the phone and she says "hi" and starts to explain the problem.. for some reason though, he is amazed and keeps asking how show knew he'd be there !?.

My Son is Going Back
by IslandWoman insince he was 6 years old my son has been good friends with a boy in our hall, they are both in their teens now.
his friend has recently tried to ignite their friendship again.
i was happy for my son because this friend of his is really a great kid, a fine person.

IW, I'm really sorry for what you and your son are going through. I can sympathize that your son wants a good friend... my worry is that the 'friend' from long ago is trying to rekindle the friendship to get a study going. Do you think this might be true? If they are really close, and your son is really benefitting from their friendship..then I think it might be alright. I just hope the jw kid has no hidden agendas. What do you think?
Let us know what happens.

Bad JW Dating Experiences
by zenpunk infor a short period of time i experienced the joys of dating within the organization.
here are two of my personal examples:.
i dated a guy for about a month who's mother (in her late 30s by the way) was supposedly of the "anointed".

Lew, I'm sorry to hear about what you've been going through. I'm not saying it is the case with all jw's, but I have certainly met many like your (soon to be) ex... not caring about personal appearance or the house...just getting in those hours. I hope one day you get to meet your soul mate who is interested in this life.
zen, I'm sorry..but the first story you told made me crack up laughing!! Did we know the same family??? I dated a brother who's mom was 'annointed'..she told me the angels talked to her too. I never saw her 'neck' massager, LOL, but who knows?
My story, maybe not so funny.....I was living in a complex that was owned by a jw family (the dad an elder, mom was a regular pioneer, sons were MS's, etc). They rented to mostly jw families. The elder's son would invite me over to watch tv at night while the parents were vacationing in Mexico. We would rent movies, go for drives all night in his truck...I thought he was really nice.
One night, he comes over and knocks on my door quietly and asks me if I want to come over to 'talk'. Sneaking out so my family wouldnt hear me, I creep over and watch some tv (on his futon, no less). He kept encouraging me to help him finish off his beers, so I did (being a gracious guest ). Before long, we're making out...and some heavy pornication ensues. A few weeks later, I'm being brought to the elders... his dad was there, even though he was an elder from a different cong than the one I went to. They said 'Steven told us about what you got him into'. I was in shock. I guess he got some remorse over being sexually seduced by this harlot, LOL. They were mortified that this rebellious woman got her hands on such a respectful MS. I was sick to my stomach..but at the time, I was totally into being a j-dub so took my lashings with my head down. I was announced as 'unapproved association'...I never heard that any announcements were made about him.
A few years later, I confessed to a sister what I had 'done'...she said it was not surprising and that he had a long record of fooling around with sisters and blaming them for it. Eventually, he was disfellowshipped for fooling around with another jw girl. And I had been feeling guilty all that time!!!!!
I see him now and then, in restaurants....he has 4 kids with a jw woman, lost his good looks and has gained alot of weight. He smiles at me and I just roll my eyes and look away. What a loser!

BG, I remember 'That's Amazing'..I also liked 'That's Incredible' and 'Real People', sometime in the late 70's.
I was just reading a similar story in Chicken Soup for the Soul.... back in New York, in the 1940's, a young man was seated on a train next to an older man who was very distraught. They start talking and the older man explains how during the Nazi regime he left the country temporarily and came back to hear his whole family had been killed. Depressed, he came to America and had only been in the country a few weeks. The young man asked what the name of the wife was...it turns out he had known her, she was now living in New York. It turned out she had survived but was told her husband had been killed. She then went to America to seek out a new life. The young man gave the old man the phone number of the woman and the two were reunited. They had only been living a few miles from each other!
I love 'coincidental' stories!!

Curlers, wow...I'm sorry about what you went through. Sounds like we had similar childhoods. I remember when I was real little..about 4 or 5, falling asleep on my mom's shoulder and having her pull her arm out from under me. She got a kick out of seeing me jerk awake with a jolt. Funny...a few minutes later, during Watchtower study, I'd look up at her and see her head nodding...her eyes were closed and when I nudged her she would lash out,'I was resting my eyes.'
Many, many times being walked to the bathroom....arm carried high above your head, thought your shoulder was going to dislocate, trying to hide your embarassment of being hauled in front of everyone..knowing the beating you're going to get because of some distraction that kept you from looking up every scripture.
the fond memories.......

The part about drawing naked people and writing notes was me, absolutely. I would make cartoon characteristics of the jws I saw. Some of them naked, others not, LOL. Most of the time I would daydream and fantasize...ahhh...the perks of an active imagination.

District Convention - Portland Maine
by proandcon in"thrilling convention"...only took notes of comments / observations not including:.
- typical "gloom and doom" (real heavy since 9/11).
- "do more" (especially as some one of a kind robotic drones demonstrate).

Bob and proandcon, I have many relatives in Portland and Bridgton... when I was 7, we went to one of the assemblies in Portland. It was the first time I came face to face with apostates. They had signs and were chanting something. I was so afraid of them!! lol

Sifted As Wheat???
by VioletAnai ini was just pondering the scripture, but i'm not sure if it's satan who's demanded the 'faithful' to be sifted as wheat.
i can't remember where the scripture is either.
my question is: why did jehovah give in to his demands?

I've never understood why God needs to prove his sovereignty at all. It's dumbfounding... I've mentioned in other threads, that I cant understand why God listened to Satan and went along with him when dealing with Job. I have never understood why he needed to prove himself to someone so beneath him. *sigh* Some things remain a mystery....

LOL you guys are totally on the money!
I always thought those calendars were god awful ugly. Who wants a pic of Israel with some red dirt and a donkey in the background??? How depressing!!! Then, in the corner, there is some map of the country... thats something I always want to see... a map of Israel!!
*ugh*
at WalMart, I get calendars for 3-4 bucks that have beautiful photos and are quite large. If I remember correctly, the jw calendars are tiny. Hmm...
