The major question (I think) is why people choose to submit themselves to that? I am born in, so I didn't choose to join. So it always baffles me to know that there are people out there who choose all that.

This generation will by no means pass away
by Darryl ingood morning i hope everyone is having a wonderful day.
there has been a lot of talk about the "new light" concerning the generation teaching.
it's been a major part of the prophecy concerning the last days and of course since jws are the only ones able to decipher and understand prophecy it is of great importance to get this main prophecy right.

AGAIN? Who cares, they have always gotten it wrong and they will always get it wrong. They have absolutely no saying about the future, period.

Feel like starting a New Ministry! True Bible Students
by SonoftheTrinity ini think studying the king james bible, and the jacobean flavored translations of the apocrypha and pseudipigrapha, whether you believe in them or not, is an essential part of being a culturally rooted english speaker.
i used to belong to an organization that advocated reading a chapter a day, but had no actual faith requirement to be a member.
20c a week and read the kjv a chapter a day, no lifestyle requirement, no doctrinal litmus test.

I feel like putting on a stupid suit, or at least a dressy Guayabera for the summer heat, and going from house to house to spread that message, so that I can fellowship with people who care about truth with no definite article or capital T, because I believe in that with as much conviction as much as any brain dead dub.
Why on Earth? As much as you love it, doesn't change the attitude and desire not to be bothered that people have. I understand feeling strongly about whatever you choose to believe the Bible is or should be, but why bothering other people with it?

Reinstated and then fade
by Zeds Dead ini'm a man - d'fd for 2.5 years now and divorced.
find it hard to date girls out here only due to always having this secret i carry with me that i was once a jw and the thought of telling a girl one day why my family don't acknowledge me as even alive.. recently been thinking of trying to get reinstated and then do a quick fade as i cant go back to the whole jw stuff.. easier said than done and was turned down twice by elders after an immediate attempt 2 years ago.. my motivation for trying would be 1.
) to see if family make contact and 2) play the last hand in their game and give the middle finger.. interested in viewpoints?.

What? I'd look at who and what kind of people you choose to date. Maybe stepping out of the comfort zone of people who make you comfortable asking out could help you find saner people who can't care less about being a JW. It's a religious affiliation, not child pornography for heaven's sake.
Some jerk elders love to mess with people and exercise all the power they can over others. That's all they have in their lives, so they may make it more difficult to you just for their own feeling of power over you. Have you considered looking for another congregation that may have more loving elders? I've known of some people who got reinstated faster in a different congregation, even when the written records trash them.
As for your reasons to get reinstated, I think that's decided on a case by case basis. I'm very clear about my standing with the WT and my JW family, and I don't need to go back for anything. But I know that there are people who are too invested and have many loved ones who are in and can't just leave and walk away. Your reasons are yours and I don't think that there's any right nor wrong in going back.

Subtle Differences in congregations
by SouthCentral ini grew up in a very zealous congregation.
we had almost 40 pioneers with only 100 publishers.
the congregation was 100% black americans (i don't say african-american).

What are some differences that you noticed between black/white/spanish congregations? Have you noticed any racism/discrimination? Did witness talk negatively about other races? Growing up, most looked down on the spanish congregations (in the late 80's) but there was never any blatant discrimination. What has been your experience?
Did friend in your congregation not like /talk about other races negatively?
For as much as the JWs want to be and portray themselves as not part of the planet, and for as much as they claim that they have some "spiritual paradise" thing going on, the reality is that they aren't any different than the rest of the world. Socially, congregations behave according to the local culture. It's impossible to expect all congregations to have the exact same social characteristics.
As for racism, just like the rest of the country, I saw it everywhere in all the congregations I went to.
In one of my arguments with my father, he told me that the JWs don't discriminate. I laughed and said: "Sure, they don't discriminate; they just claim to be the one and only group that has the one and only truth, and the only ones deserving to live. Nothing, just that".

Suffering with "Bridge-over-River-Kwai-syndrome" while fading
by OneGenTwoGroups ini've never liked being late for meetings, 10 minutes early has always been 5 minutes late for me.
i'm a very punctual atheist at the meetings still.. when someone asks a simple question from the platform and not one dummy raises their hand, i still feel the need to raise my hand so that we don't all look like idiots.. my shoes still need to be clean and polished, my suits and ties match and are in good shape.
i never wear them anywhere else.. i still feel like saying hello to people that are obviously being ignored by everyone else.. people not singing out still bugs me, lol.

I think I understand the feeling. Question, are you replacing any of those things you're fond of with something? Walking away without having something to fill the void (don't like that expression but can't find a better one) may not help the fading process.
Part of fading is building a life with fulfilling activities, and looking for better, healthier, self-loving ways of meeting your needs, not just disappearing from the congregation.

Turn out the lights the party is over
by Crazyguy ini think the reason the borg really went on a cost cutting move and is selling off all thier buildings has become obvious.
the cult is telling people that there fast growing but then the numbers seem to indicate about a 1% growth rate.
this would give them roughly 800,000 new baptized ones in ten years give or take do to the small increase per year from previous gains.

There loosing 2 million per decade. How long can that's last.
People or dollars? Doubt that it's dollars. They do have a plan, they are in the real estate business and that move is going really well. They will continue sucking up the lives and money from their people until there's none. Then tjey will just close, leave, and reinvent themselves and start over again.
For them being the kind of cult that predicts the end of the world, their longevity has actually been quite good.

Well it's never been like that,
I think that attitude is the real cancer in religious organizations. All of them.
