Sounds like petty vindictiveness. Not funny to me.

Anyone in NYC available as a marriage witness?
by thebrokenkite ini've recently openly joined this community and already have a huge favor to ask: if you are in the nyc area, would you be willing to be my marriage witness this wednesday morning?
all of my family and friends are either active dubs or abroad, while my "worldly" fiancée is a fl transplant and still new to the city.
we're happy to provide modest compensation.

I am in NYC but unfortunately have a lot of professional responsibilities and can't just go. I'm sure that if you can find the right person in the line behind you anywhere, that will be in NYC.

Just a survey
by Homer notsimpson injust to get others opinions and experiences.
out of everyone in the jw organization, how many do you think never get caught doing a "gross sin "?
and how many do you think actually get caught?

how many do you think never get caught doing a "gross sin "? And how many do you think actually get caught? How many people confess? How many do you guys think practice gross sin and not get caught?
I find it hard to be accurate since many of us were JWs for a longer time than others, also because some of us were nosier than others, and also because some of us were in different congregations and therefore knew (of) more people.
I'm also basing my answer in the presumption that you are using the WT's definition of a "gross sin", which includes my very own existence.
As a gay JW, and growing in a culture and medium that wasn't too kind to LGBTQ+ people socially, legally or any other way-ly, I got to know quite a few JWs with a double life. Never counted how many, but through my entire life in that organization there were many people in the congregation who had double lives.
Me personally, I can fill the entire quota of "gross sins" based on their definitions of things that they believe people should get killed for, regardless of how decent and morally clean they are. Their criteria for sin is ridiculously, insanely, stupidly narrow and specific, so pretty much every single person at some point will do something that is considered a "gross sin".
Getting caught in the sense of people knowing, a lot. Getting caught in the sense of anyone in the congregation taking any actions, very few. I think those two last statements also answer your last question.

Whether Jesus was a historical figure or not matters not
by venus inwhen i suffered some loss what jesus said came to my mind: “if anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, let him have your coat also.” (mathew 5:40) principle behind this statement made flash to me: ‘here shirt is only a symbol of material things/comfort.
if you suffer a loss, have the mind-set that i have no problem even if i suffer some greater loss,’ and my worry immediately disappeared.
whether jesus was a historical figure or not matters not if what he (supposedly) said happens to be of great practical help..

I have no idea of what you are trying to say.

Who's got it wrong - the Bible or the "faithful slave?"
by The Searcher inaccording to the self-proclaimed "faithful and discreet slave" of jehovah's witnesses, all sorts of evil things are going to be allowed to occur during christ's 1000 year reign!
it-2 p. 789 resurrection - "they are judged, not on what they did before hearing his voice, but on what they do after hearing it.

It makes an interesting theological conversation.

Where do I go now?
by Libby inso i thought my purpose was to serve jehovah and get baptised.
where do i go now to get baptised?
is baptism even a requirement for serving god or was that just for the disciples and people of that time.

So I thought my purpose was to serve Jehovah and get baptised. Where do I go now to get baptised?
In essence you can just get a baptism anywhere they provide it. While you find a suitable place where you feel ok with your baptism, I'd encourage you to look and learn more about yourself as an individual.
Is baptism even a requirement for serving God or was that just for the disciples and people of that time.
No, if you want to serve your god, you can do that.
When any of you were baptised did you feel the Holy Spirit.
No. In fact, my JW baptism was a sham. I didn't feel anything different or special.
Do you still pray ? To whom do you pray ? So lost. Advice please.
I don't pray. I don't feel that I should be giving you any advice. My believe is that healthy spirituality comes from the inside out, not the other way around. Your spirituality is personal and just yours and just between you and your God. I hope you find peace.

Ted talk
by zeb ini like to watch ted talks.. a recent one i watched was "why i left the westboro baptist church" x megan phelps-roper.
i have never heard of this church ever before after all i am in australia.
the talk and all the young woman stated as beliefs and dogma sounded just like the jw minus the noisy demos..

I found that Ted Talk very good and inspiring. Her insights are very good.
With my knowledge of the Bible I would have to be a Westbro Baptist if I ever returned to Christianity; anything less would be intellectually dishonest. They are one of the few Bible believing churches left in the world.
How so? I wonder because "knowledge of the Bible" is quite a simple statement. Pretty much every person alive in this planet has "knowledge of the Bible".
And what does "intellectually dishonest" mean?

I took a Watchtower Rag !
by Phizzy ini accepted a wt mag/rag from a bro i have known for decades just to be polite.
i asked him if he would like my comments on it sometime, he said he would listen, (yea maybe he will hear, but not really listen and absorb what i have to say.).
the interesting thing is, they are getting better, the borg, there was only one "half quote" where they select what they want from a source, and ignore the rest of what the source says.. and only one blatant lie.. it was the mag about the 4 horsemen, and a supplementary article makes the false claim that " archaeology repeatedly supports the bible's historical accuracy".. this is typical jw borg propaganda speak.

In terms of evidence of what they preach and teach is all nonsense, too many to mention. The crap that they show and tell is one aspect of it. How they have people make important life decisions based on their crap is what I find really cruel.

1914 is the Key !
by Phizzy ini thought this deserved its own topic.
it is a thought that occurred to me as i read the wt rag that i took to be polite.. it is the public one about the 4 horseman, and it struck me that they are still 100% reliant on their false 1914 doctrine to hang everything on.. if 1914 is proved wrong, what can the credibility of their doomsday message hang on ?.
we all know how to disprove the old 2520 years nonsense, but they seem to at last be hiding that, and simply claiming that world events prove jesus slung the devil out of heaven in 1914.. so, what has that old devil done since 1914, 103 years ago ?.

scratchme1010
You can probably think of more "happy news". Yes, there are terror attacks and many problems to solve, but so far the Devil has proved a far better "king" than Jesus since 1914.
The one thing that I would point out, aside from I agreeing with you 100% in all your points, is that as you state in the part that I quoted, the reality of life is that it never is in black and white. Never, not once during the history of humanity have everything been all great or all bad for the entire human race.
We're always going to have a problem to solve and issue that emerge and never will have a satisfactory answer for everything, AND WE SHOULDN'T.
