Anything i should know about the upcoming convention?
Yes, stay away from it. If not and option, bring your laptop with you.
anything i should be aware of?
i am not sure i will go, since i just moved away from home a month ago.
it is not cheap to travel 250km and pay for hotel here in denmark, and i am not exactly rich.

i am interested in getting people's thoughts on this.
on average 40 thousand people leave the organisation yearly for one reason or another.
the experiences all over the media are proof of this.
Interesting. If they want to become a mainstream religion, in my humble opinion, I'd say:
A/ to become a normal Christian faith group in which its members are a happy AND proud to be JW's
Stop the practice of shunning. Stop brainwashing their members to believe that not being part of their loved one's lives is a good thing.
B/ to stop the haemorrhaging of its members.
Same way than in the first one, but growing the same way that other religions do, not by exploiting people and make them work for them for free.
Or there's the option of becoming a non-growing, yet, solid religious organization out of being a supportive, loving caring organization, not being there for the money as they are now.
Also, become professionals. If they want to have people make important life decisions, at least have a clue by having professional counselors, early child education people, mental health professional. That means that they have to completely change their "magic Jehovah" attitude that service or their Bible translation is the answer to everything.
There's a lot more they could do, but that's a good start.
C/ to rid themselves of being stigmatized a cult by Joe public and thus more appealing as a Christian organisation.
They are not being stigmatized as a cult. They are a cult. So this one is simple, just stop being a cult, and show it.
threads about jw urban legends are nothing new on this forum.
they are loads of fun to read.
how many of you remember the one about the teenager who skipped the meeting and decided to get into a car with his worldly friends and they worldly guys decided to rob a store and the jw didn't know they were going to do so but he was arrested simply for being with them?.
My favorite was in a congregation I visited in the Dominican Republic where the CO (happened to be visiting that week) said that there were two sisters that became lesbians because they decided to watch Mexican Novelas together.
¡Arriba!
i don't mean overly obvious, or otherwise meaning to cause harm, but taught to lie for the purpose of avoidance.
this type of lying can be pervasive in areas of life that are not just to avoid discussions with people who have questions about the jw, etc.
my husband will lie/be deceitful about the silliest, simple things.
Are JWs "mind trained" to be habitual liars?
They are mind trained, but I don't think that it's for that sole purpose. They are conditioned to accept, believe and therefore, do as the WT sees the suits their purpose. If that purpose is lying, then they will lie. Otherwise, they won't.
i think that christianity's teachings pose a very unproductive world view and are a danger to our survival.
their teachings that man is sinful and worthy of death and in need of a savior to rescue him and free him of his sinful tendencies or else feel the wrath of god.
these things that condemn man as sinful are his own powerful drives given to him at conception which he now must deny due to indoctrination and consign to his shadow(jungian).
Does Christianity Promote Self Hatred?
Yes.
it's not enough that we simply raise empirical challenges to these iron age beliefs saying, "jesus didn't really rise from the dead" or "muhammad didn't really fly to heaven on a horse.
" we must also give no quarter to this falsehood that religion can give peoples lives real meaning.
the truths about our identity, experience, and the future impacts that our decision will have on the world around us are much deeper and more profound than any culture or religion.
We must also give no quarter to this falsehood that religion can give peoples lives real meaning.
And who the fuck are you to tell anyone what they must or must not do?
back to my favourite pet hate of "labelling", ie, someone has such and such an opinion so consequently he must therefore be a part of this or that particular group.
what tosh.
(btw, i've decided that it's ok for politicians to be labelled.
Interesting thoughts. Question, what about people who feel ok with their labels? I know people who have no problem with them. I personally can't care less what people call me, so I don;t pay attention to labels one way or another, but some people do call themselves atheists, racists, whatever they call themselves. What do you make of those people?
And it's interesting that people tend to criticize labels when they are being labeled something.
my dad died of a blood clot as a result of surgery late last year.
to say that his death created a bottomless void in our family is an understatement.
i think about him every day, sometimes constantly.
Thank you for sharing. Just want to pay my condolences.
i would really like to read the thoughts of an creationist as they lie on their deathbed.
their honest thoughts.
their terrors.
You again? Ok, once again, who the fuck are you for me to even bother addressing you?
we all know how the society likes to say that they alone "dispense spiritual food from jehovah" through the f&ds / gb.
the claim was that from russell's day, the society alone is gods channel.... so that got me thinking.... if they dispense spiritual food, yes spiritual nourishment to all witnesses, that clearly implies that all the past wrong teachings, and incorrect doctrines and practices must not have been "nourishing spiritual food" right?.
in effect, they were just like parents that order a fast food drive through "meal" to keep the kids happy and fill the hole in their tummy.. yes, rather than providing a well prepared and healthy nourishing meal, a quick-fix junk food fill was sufficient.
...they are simply ramping up the dispensing of junk food!?!
If you ask me, it's all "processed food", if you know what I mean.
