Interesting that the growth in partakers is roughly the same rate of Americans affected by mental illness.

Apparently I'd been in prison, gone to wife-swapping parties and consorted with fortune tellers.
I guess they have to demonise those who leave less others too are tempted to stray.
What did they say about you?
Back in the day, they said that I was homosexually prostituting myself, and that they saw me entering older men's cars, late at night doing only-who-knows-what (I was unable to get an answer as to what were JWs doing late at night in such area, where they allegedly saw me).
They said that they saw me dressed in woman's clothes in some street corner (up until the year 2000 I had heavy mustache, you can imagine how feminine I would have looked! And it was the 80's, can you imagine the size of the shoulder pads I'd need?)
They said that I was a sexual predator of sort, and that parents should be wary of their children around me.
They said that they saw me entering seedy bars, and hanging being friends with shady characters. (I started taking classes in college and was at night, working full time, and still doing the JW work).
They said that I was stealing money from my boss at work, and that I was a very irresponsible worker (my job at the time was with a non-JW brother of a JW, and they were always asking my boss questions about me).
They said that I was bringing men to have sex into my apartment (at the time I had an elder and two MOs as roommates).
Gossip in the last congregation I belonged to was insane, morbid and very ill-intended. Those people at the Rio Piedras congregation were just downright filthy nasty.
That's when I decided to have fun with them and give them real reasons to talk.

by London Underground injust wanted to say a big hello to everyone, my first post on here was actually yesterday but it was deleted.. so will keep this one short to save my precious time just in case its also deleted or lost.. got fed up with years of persecution from within the congregations.
the lack of genuine friendship & lack of 'christian love'.
having personally seen many a scandalous behaviour i began doing some research online some years ago.

Id like to thank everyone for posting on here and the entire Ex Jw community . Its great to have these resources for people waking up, coming out or stuck in PIMO.
Thank you. Welcome. As you will see or have seen, you will find a wealth of opinions, points of views and levels of connection to the WT. Please take what you like and let the rest go. What may not suit you may be very useful to others.
Once again, welcome.

Don't have answers either. The one thing that I can continue sating is that in the USA (or anywhere else for that matter) it's impossible to legislate attitude. With all the restrictions that still exist today, even if we add more, laws, ordinances and policies can only go so far. For as long as the attitude and mental health of people don't get properly addressed, that and other social problems will continue festering in this society.

Looking for quote re: gay rights 1973-1974 WT/Awake
by cabasilas ini remembered recently an article i read in a watchtower or awake!
about 1973 or 1974. a woman gave her story of how she had rejected the fight for women's rights (it may have used the term women's lib or liberation) and became a jw.
she lived in nyc and i actually met her briefly when i was at bethel.

Great find. I may add that i remember that in the early 80s there was another article criticizing sand ridiculing women who were for women's rights. I remember distinctively them allegedly quoting a woman who was regretting wanting to have "a man's life" and wanting to go back home to do her chores.
Not sure if that helps, but there are more articles attacking women's rights.

Paradise? Was it?
by TerryWalstrom inparadisewas it really paradise to be in paradise?adam and eve never were held by a mother, never cuddled and sung to with a lullaby nor nursed or coddled with tenderness or any human familial embrace.
the first humans (adam and eve) never learned to toddle surrounded by brothers, sisters, aunts and uncles and grandparents cheering them on.
the entire experience of childhood was excised surgically like a trauma patient awakening from an accident with amnesia.adam and eve were never in a neighborhood with other kids forming friendship bonds for life and exchanging dreams and hopes for a future they were building in their community.

I mean: really? Is this PARADISE or a ridiculous fantasy story passed down from primitive minds?
The entire story as recorded in the Bible or as told by Christians has never made sense from any perspective. I never looked at it the way you presented, and that reinforces my view of how ridiculous the entire story is.
Great thoughts.

Going To The Meetings Because You Were Obligated To
by minimus indo you remember going to the meetings because you had to??
there were times when you were sick or definitely under the weather or perhaps you were exhausted physically and or mentally, and you were still required to go to the meetings!
even during inclement weather you had to go.

Do you remember going to the meetings because you had to??
Since I am born-in, I think that going to meetings because I had to was a given. I had no saying as a child. As an adolescent, for about 2 years I went because I decided to give the Jehovah crap a try. So out of the 23 years I was dealing with the WT I went to meetings because I had to for 21 years. Yes, I remember.

Out of the world, into the Truth
by apalro infor some background - i studied on & off as a child with a jehovah's witness who has been patiently working on lots of our family for more than a decade and never gave up on any of us.
as a middle-schooler and a highschooler, my love for jehovah and any association with my childhoood bible teacher... faded.
disappeared.

Some members here will only criticise & ridicule you for having any kind of faith, while others will try to be constructive and sincerely demonstrate scripturally & factually how the WTBTS is not what it presents itself as - God's chosen organization
Again, nonsense. Telling things the way they are is not attacking and ridiculing. She didn't come here to talk about her faith. She came here to tell others to follow her Jehovah crap because apparently she was ":saved" by it. I see no taking any responsibility for her own actions and blaming her poor decision making on "Satan", "the world", and anything and everything but her own irresponsible self.
Some of us have no need, interest and DON'T HAVE to be educational, nor have to show her anything about their teachings. That is not an attack, that is showing facts and not engaging or buying into their Jehovah crap.
It is disrespectful for people to come here to preach and tell others to go back to the Jehovah shit that many of us chose to walk away from for solid, good, educated and logical reasons.
There are plenty of other places for people to go proselytize and try to gain converts. If she chooses to do it here (and obviously she has a history of making poor choices), then don't expect people to like it, welcome her Jehovah crap, or buy into the nonsense that we decided not to listen to.
You can talk about your faith all you want, I will defend your right to do so. Don't expect all people to like it.
