memorial invitation : subliminal message.
at first glance, there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the invitation but on closer look a disturbing detail becomes apparent.it is in the upper right corner of the illustration of jesus christ celebrating the last supper with his disciples in the upper room...there seem to be trees outside the window but on closer inspection, all thanks to the pdf format of the invitation that allows you a very close look down to the fine detail, these are not trees but letters!!!.
What do you think?
Nonsense.
intellectual honesty: "i am willing to be wrong when facts go against cherished beliefs.".
are you willing to be wrong?.
without a willingness to be wrong (who can always be right?
Long read but worth every word. Thank you. My position is this:
How do we Avoid...becoming Intellectually Dishonest?
When honesty is one of my core operating principles, It's never an issue. I hold everyone around me to those standards.
checked out another thread on the jw talk cult site and found this new discussion under the heading makes it awkward...i think: .
hi brothers, hope we are all basking in jehovah's undeserved kindness.
well, anytime im having a bible study in the ministry and we get to d study 6 in the brochure; listen to god and live forever which has d topic : what do we learn from the great flood?
They literally judge people. Have you heard of judicial committees?
during one co visit to our congregation, i was asked to work with co as i was a new publisher.
after some ordinary visits, we entered a house where there was only a lady who proved be well-educated.
though it was my turn, i told co to present the good news.
After coming out of that house CO was not in a mood to continue with the FS, so he said: ‘We will have some refreshment.’ While enjoying our Halo Top; I was telling myself ‘house-holder was more than refreshing to me than this ice-cream as her response sowed in me a seed of doubt which later grew into a big tree that cannot be uprooted.
He has to feel very defeated. Not only he was proven wrong, but JWs are supposed to look up to them.
hi everyone, this is my first post.
i studied the bible weekly with a wonderful jw.
i suddenly stopped because things just seemed to be getting stranger.
Now that I have stopped responding to texts, calls I feel almost stalked. Today, a random car sat at the end of my driveway for well over 15 minutes with a lady looking at me. I came to my door, she waved, and then made a call and drove off. Maybe I am paranoid, but it seemed to get very cultish. Is this a common experience?
I really hope not. As far as I know, JWs are not trained to obsess about gaining converts that way, please read that last part, that way. Do you have any reason to believe that the "stalking crazy woman in the car" was a JW?
Stalking is a serious matter, so I hope it's not that they decided to do that on their own (which is possible), but it is not a directive from the WT organization.
Either way, don't entertain any unwanted attention.
has anybody else noticed a pattern that is here among us outcasts?
there seems to be, on average, a higher level of intelligence here than there is at the kingdom hall.
actually, intelligent conversation seems to be looked down upon among the witnesses.. also, the simple language skills found here seem to be above average compared to those among the witnesses.
There seems to be, on average, a higher level of intelligence here than there is at the Kingdom Hall.
I respectfully disagree, 100%. Intelligence has absolutely nothing to do with brainwashing. There are many JWs who are very intelligent.
I've said this many times, and I will say it again. One thing is what a person knows and their capacity to think, and a different one is what the person feels.
There's this constant insistence in this forum on looking at the JW experience as an intellectual one. The WT has done quite a number on people, that is, if no one notices or refuses to talk about the real things behind skills and knowledge. It's not about intelligence, its not about learning, it's not about analyzing information.
finding common ground more likely to work.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kyiozodhkbe.
i'm pimo, very much against disfellowshipping, and going to a meeting leaves me feeling confused and angry at the best of times.
except an elder asked me on thursday night if i can start giving a ride to a disfellowshipped woman because she lives near me and nobody else from the hall lives in my village.
it seems the elder and his family who have been giving this woman a ride for the past six months can no longer stomach the time it takes them to go out of their way.. i thought all normal publishers weren't to have any contact with disfellowshipped people?
I'm PIMO, very much against disfellowshipping, and going to a Meeting leaves me feeling confused and angry at the best of times.
It's your choice and your car. If for some reason it's in your own benefit to agree with the elders (sometimes people who are fading have to remain in good standing with them for their own reasons), I'd say that she may become your friend. I'd be very curious as to why a person submits his/herself to being treated like that.
She could certainly use some humanity.
we all have many reasons for leaving, most are doctrinal, some are emotional.
it's a religion which obsesses over factual proofs (counterfactual though they are) of its veracity rather than faith, so it's inevitable that most who leave will do so for intellectual reasons.
which doctrine above all others forced you to reconsider your position?
It's a religion which obsesses over factual proofs (counterfactual though they are) of its veracity rather than faith, so it's inevitable that most who leave will do so for intellectual reasons
I'm not sure that this is completely accurate. They do a great job at making people believe that that's the case, but no, that's not what they are there for. Their main purpose is to exercise power over other people, not even money. Their teachings and all that study that they have to people doing is just the means, not the end.
To answer your question, being a JW wasn't my choice. That religion was shoved down my throat since I was born. As soon as I had the choice I left.
i posted this on r/exjw, but i thought i might post it here as well.
so the elders in our kh are moving to get us to sign new simplified blood cards and keep them on file.
i really need to not rock the boat in my current pimo status because of circumstances.. my cousin knows i have doubts about the blood thing, but i can’t show her that my doubts are getting to me.
Any advice for this?
As unbelievable as it may sound, I signed my card with the name of a local drag queen. They never looked, never verified. Or they never told me, or they just didn't care.
