That's great. Personally, I think the JWs who knew me are the ones who need to heal from when I was done with them. However, I know that's not the case, and there are many who need some comfort and healing. Their stories should be told.
Thanks for sharing. Best wishes.

Favourite Quirky / Low Budget / Non-Mainstream Movies
by Simon inso the recent topic about film franchises got me thinking.
sure, we all love the big budget, mainstream releases that are so successful they spawn never-ending (it sometimes seems) sequels.
we could watch marvel and star-wars movies for the rest of our lives (and we might just ...).. but y'know what i love?

Any A&E experts out there who know how to get "permission" to watch the video? I've just spent quite a bit of time linking the A&E app to my TV provider, but when I try to watch the first episode of "Cults and Extreme BeLIEf" it gives me a message saying I don't have permission to watch. Hoping this goes away? Sure don't want to miss it!
If it's a PC, make sure that you're connected to the Internet. Some networks also want you logged into your service provide account.
If you have a tablet, you can access it after logging into the app and download the episode, that is, if you wish to watch it offline.
I hope that helps.
Also, those interested in this Type of things, The Investigation Discovery network also have a "People's Magazine Investigates" special on cults. That's happening on June 4th at 9pm.

Random Thought on Drugs/Tobacco Being Sinful Under JW Doctrine
by neverendingjourney ina friend of mine was telling me about her recent trip to peru.
she said she had trouble with the altitude in certain areas of peru but the locals offered her a tea derived from the coca leaf and that helped tremendously with her symptoms.. i began to think about how i would have handled the situation as a jw given that coca contains an alkaloid that is used to produce cocaine.
in its natural form, the content is very low and the locals use it as a stimulant similar to coffee.. however, as a jw i would have probably refused to drink it viewing it as something similar to a product derived from tobacco leaves.

However, as a JW I would have probably refused to drink it viewing it as something similar to a product derived from tobacco leaves. I'm not sure if there's an official WT policy on this tea, but my instinct tells me there probably is.
As a JW you have no saying on anything, including simple on-the-spot decisions that every single adult in their right mind can/should do for themselves, like choosing tea based on herbs that you might or might not know of.
The WT and the JWs have one simple policy, which is "You don't have a saying in your own life".

Nature is amazing :)
by LoveUniHateExams ini studied biology at uni and specialised in animal biology (wolf behaviour) but i've always liked natural history.. even if i never went to uni, i'd still be amazed by nature and i'd still watch nature programs on tv.. i'd like start a thread where posters can post nature clips that are in some way amazing.. the vid below shows wild wolves in the canadian arctic encountering humans for the first time.. these wolves haven't been exterminated by human hunters and therefore haven't learnt to fear humans.
result: wild wolves approach human strangers almost like dogs.
pretty cool.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=izgavk7fovu .

...crazy religious organizations
by lastmanstanding inwhy they need to get rid of organized religion.
these people are batshit crazy.. https://apple.news/axf71irnns4w2kc-vtvv6zw.

Why they need to get rid of organized religion.
Nope. Not really. That's not religion; that's a high demand controlling group that uses religion for a purpose that existed before the religion existed.
Religion serves a purpose in society, and an important one. What should go away is the lack of education around those groups and their misuse and abuse of (in this case) religion.
Also, please note that I have seen similar groups with similar tone, culture and philosophy, causing equal harm (or worse) to others, and they are not religious groups. The issue is not religion, is the misuse of it ill purposes.

Ex-Jehovah's Witness Recovering Group 3 and This Site
by dubstepped ini don't remember seeing it ever really talked about here but the facebook group with the namesake of this post shut down at the end of march.
it was archived and they weren't clear as to when or if they would come back.
it seemed to come out of nowhere, and i know a lot of people were disappointed.

It isn't easy staying involved in the ex-JW community.
No pun intended, but AMEN!
I also want express appreciation for Simon. Managing an ex-JW community has to be difficult, so thank you.

"Apostasy" is worse than...??
by stuckinarut2 init is funny to contemplate how ridiculous the act of shunning "apostates" who leave the org for conscientious reasons is.. so we have been rudely ignored and even abused by jws who :.
1) have been imprisoned recently for dishonest business practices and fraud worth millions of dollars.
2) have been bankrupt several times.

I don't use the term apostate at all. That's their lingo, and I don't follow their stupid rules.

Would you?
by Half banana inwould you join a religion which punishes you if you later on change your mind and choose to leave it?.
would you join a religion which claims to be the only one guided by god and yet has always got their prophetic utterances entirely wrong?.
would you join a religion which changes its beliefs every few years?.
-
scratchme1010
Would you join a religion...
No, end of the story.
I confess I did join but these things were not clearly explained before I joined.
Which is what makes it a controlling cult, not just a religious organization.
