Something's Gotta Give
by pale.emperor ini've been 100% alone since my df last month.
i'm dead to my family now, unless i return to their cult - so i recently made contact with 3 former jw's that were in my cong when i was in my youth.
to my surprise, they all had exactly the same doubts and reasoning i had and said even though they've been out 6-7 years they "still feel tied to it in some way" and "feel guilty celebrating xmas or birthdays".

Some changes have to come in in order to maintain control surely?
I think yes and no. I wouldn't surprise me if the cult continue doing exactly the same thing even if they lose people. remember, they have alternatives. They are not in the business of caring for their people; they are in the business of money. They are in the real estate business now and they are doing well, so who cares about being less people. They will find some kind of biblical reason to do what they have.

Political Correctness
by snugglebunny ini think i'm just ornery when it comes to equality.
ever since i can remember, i've always believed that all people were created equal.
the colour of a person's skin is irrelevent to me.

I sometimes wonder if PC is actually driving folk into one extreme opinion or the other. IMHO, continually labelling people with the 'ist or 'phobe tag actually does nothing at all except polarise the person who isn't conforming to our own grand ideas. OMG - he called me an 'obe! I'd better change my views immediately! Yeah, that works....snort. Oh, and BTW, anyone who simply can't resist hanging an 'obe or an 'ist label on me after being infuriated by this post should know that I am indeed, globophobic. So there.
My two cents. I live in USA, culturally I'm not American, I am gay, I am dark, I speak with an accent, I'm not young and I have a disability. So I know one or two things about isms in this country. You want to dislike me for any ism, you will find a reason for it.
If a person like you tells me that you have no problem with me for being ___________, I may be skeptical at first, may start trusting you gradually, but I will definitely match your words with your actions. If you make a remark that I find offensive, or establish an opinion on any social issue that I disagree on, or just say something I don't like hearing, I don't go around labeling people an 'obe or 'ist.Depending on how relevant that person is, I may or may not address any issue with that person directly. The only people I'd characterize as an 'obe or 'ist are those who openly admit to be so.
Yes, I do see a number of people who are all about ranting about being discriminated against, claiming discrimination very time that they do something wrong and are told, or using their "minority" status to get things. But I am very clear about the difference between having an opinion and intending to offend and shun people based on race, and I am pretty capable, intelligent and skillful to accomplish pretty much what I want in spite of.
And then there are a number of people who truly believe in equality, that is until a minority person out performs him/her. There are a number of people who are full of themselves and claim that they are not racist (they just happen to never relate to anyone of a different race than them). So if you feel scrutinized for what you claim, please understand that there are a number of people who like you claim to believe in equality, but (probably unlike you), are full of nonsense and their actions show otherwise.

The UN Files - Print Out And Keep For Your Next JW Visitor
by pale.emperor ini've been researching the wt and the un involvement.
when i was still in and i first seen the un letter online, my cognitive dissonance kicked and i told myself it'll be a fake.
an apostate lie.. and seeing as no jw i've spoken to has ever heard of it, and flatly deny any involvement "no, they wouldn't do that", i decided to do a little "personal study" of my own.

I find this useful for people who need to bother trying to show them reality. Personally, I find it easier to just tell them to eff off.

And they say WE are the negative and bitter ones?!?
by stuckinarut2 inwas just thinking how the society has fervently promoted the idea and direct teaching that all who leave are "bitter, negative, twisted, and mentally diseased" etc... yes, they say that those who leave are at fault.
all who leave are wrong and destined to die.. yet, they are the ones who dwell on such negative thinking!
most who fade or leave do so for matters of concience, yet just want to get on with life.

Why doesn't the society allow open communication, feedback and discussion, or allow ones to leave free of ridicule? Why promote bitterness and hate?
I think that this bitterness and negativity is common in most-to-all religion. The negativity is to feed people's fear that there's nothing else in the world but depending on their organization. The hate and bitterness promotion comes from the fact that they all claim to be the one and only groups who has the truth, that it's right about everything. Therefore, nothing and nobody else outside is worth of any kind words. Also there's this grandiosity that many people who claim to be in the one and only truth feel, so there's no real need to be considerate, compassionate or nice. Finally, they are only nice and "compassionate", and show respect for other people when and only when it fits their agenda, that is, gaining converts or get something done to accommodate their believes.

It is absolutely galling to me that my wife submits herself to this madness
by jambon1 ini've tried to get over this, i honestly have.
since i stopped my kids going to meetings, things have gotten a little better.. but knowing the content of the convention programme that she was subjected to on friday, it amazes me and greatly annoys me that she goes back for more, today.
for her to sit there watching those crazy, fear mongering bunker videos.

Brainwashing has nothing to do with how good or intelligent a person is. If you look at the makeup of the people both in and out of that organization, they are all from different walks of life with different degrees of intelligence, personal values and qualities.
Unfortunately, getting sucked up into the brainwashing cult doesn't discriminate.

Rank & file are seeing the money-grubbing
by Zoos inspoke with a fellow apostate from my own area.
she and i bailed out about the same time and kept in touch.. she used to do secular work with one of the local elders in his cleaning business until she got dfed.
this same elder was one of the more profound dickheads on my reinstatement committee, before i turned around two years later and daed.. business required her to contact the elder on behalf of an old client.

Many people are growing disappointed at what's going on. I think that many of their changes are inevitable so the consequences are what we get now.
I feel sorry for some members of my family of origin who have been in that org all their lives, only to end up in this disarray. Sad.

The brother giving the Saturday"inactive ones helping them to return".
He said, this year the society has been making an effort to contact all inactive ones.
And also... the elders visit all the inactive ones at least once a year
BS! Totally BS!
Also he said that if any of the flock make contact with an inactive one they must tell the elders immediately. Hmm? I wonder why?
They don't want to talk to people who are (a) aware of what's really going on there, (b) angry and mad at the WT for what they do to people's lives, particularly those born in, and (c) are doing better after leaving. It really is challenging to try to convince people to go back on top of the rest of responsibilities. They don't get paid for any of it. So my guess is that they look for every possible excuse to skip talking to some people, and they go talk to one or two who they figure don't pose a risk to them.
They have absolutely no interest in helping anyone. That's for sure.

Listing Bros cv's in their intro
by purrpurr inat the assembly i noticed something new and disturbing.
when a brother is introduced before a talk the audience is now given their life history/ major accomplishments .. "brother arsehole who served at bethal for five years, pioneered in the foreign language territory for ten years, is an elder in x congregation and serves in the construction projects blah blah blah".
this puffing up never used to happen?

Actually, I remember in the early 80s an article featuring some person from the GB. The article was all about him, so no, I don't think that that's new.

Who cares? There's nothing that those people can announce that will make me think about them. They always have some kind of "special" announcement.
