I'm actually all for it. JWs have plenty to deal with all the WT nonsense. It's good that they have some slack.

Counting time
by Emma ini may not have put this in the correct spot, but i do think it's scandalous the way time gets counted now.
i've seen a cart at the edge of our farmer's market, never anyone close enough to talk.
yesterday was a drizzly day and there were two carts set up, covered in plastic, "witnessing" on their own.

Campaign to invite people to meetings
by StarTrekAngel injust found out last night that our congo is starting a campaign to invite interested people to meetings.
the instructions for the campaign clear out that "interested" people are not just those whom we visit often or have bible studies with.
it includes and random stranger we may talk to and who may show a hint of interest on the religion.

What am I missing? How is that campaign different from what they always do?

WT 1/2017: "Why is the Bible sometimes misunderstood?"
by Schnufti inthe bible is designed to be understood by those who are humble and willing to learn.
jesus said to his father: “i publicly praise you, father, lord of heaven and earth, because you have carefully hidden these things from wise and intellectual ones and have revealed them to young children.” (luke 10:21) the bible is written in such a way that only those with the right attitude would understand its message.
people with a proud attitude—a common trait of “wise and intellectual ones”—tend to misunderstand the bible.

What would you say to JWs as an answer to the claims in that article?
The same that I say to everything else they claim: useless nonsense.
As for the bible, I agree that the entire concept of having a bible is nonsense too, especially considering when and how it was compiled.
Not only the bible is an old, obsolete and useless book, but there are many people like me who don't need a book to know to be a decent human being.

My thoughts are to go fuck yourself. Stop treating gay people like you are entitled to have a saying about who we are. You don't need to justify your sexuality; I don't have to justify mine. Enough of that shit.

According to one JW there can only be 1 of 3 reasons why you left.
by Bonsai ini asked an old jw friend of mine why so many baptized individuals leave the jw religion.
"did it ever occur to you, old friend, that maybe they know something that you don't know and have valid reasons for leaving?
", i asked.. his response set me back for an answer.

Let's see...
...The vast majority of those who leave the truth do it for one of three reasons:
1). They want to go out and fornicate, or are already fornicating, get caught and leave.
Checked.
2). They have homosexual desires and finally go out and decide to act on those desires.
Double checked - actually, I "acted on my desires" while I was still in (oh, the brothers...) - multiple checked.
3). They've been stumbled and their pride pushes them out."
BS. - Not checked.
Obviously, they are in complete denial about many of the real reasons why people leave.
I remember what I said to a former friend who was a JW and he was also my coworker. He asked me why I wasn't attending meetings anymore. My reply was "because bad associations spoil good habits".

Why Marrying An Outsider Is NOT A Disfellowshipping "Offense"
by Divergent inso yeah, i was thinking about this.
marrying an unbeliever is considered to be wrong, but at the same time, it is not a disfellowshipping "offense".
well, the reason is simple: there is more to gain than to lose by not disfellowshipping.

Well, the reason is simple: there is more to gain than to lose by NOT disfellowshipping. If they did disfellowship everyone who married "out of the truth", there is a high chance that such ones WON'T be coming back and the org would lose them forever. So why not take the softer approach - make it permissible, with the hope that the believing one can eventually bring their mate AND any children that they may have into "the truth!" This would be an acceptable solution for many single ones (especially sisters) who are not able to find a marriage mate within the org. So while the org considers marrying a "worldly person" to be wrong, they still allow it!
Actually, I think the reasons are even simpler. They can get sued to their wazoos if they disfellowship people who marry whoever they decide to marry and get disfellowshipped for it. Marriage is a legally binding contract too, protected by the state. People in USA obtain over 1100 government benefits, entitlements and legal protections simply by getting married, and people cannot discriminate based on who they decide to marry.

What were Jesus's 'Miracles' supposed to prove?
by nicolaou inthe healings, feeding the five thousand, walking on water, resurrecting the dead.
none of it happened of course but let's take the bible literally and say that it did.. so?.
didn't magic practicing priests perform 'miracles' in a contest with aaron?
-
scratchme1010
How exactly are the miracles supposed to convince us that Jesus is the 'good guy'?
They don't. Both the bible and the WT interpretation of it are full of faulty logic like the ones you point. Not to mention that though it is proven that Jesus of Nazareth did in fact exist, there isn't any proof of any of that nonsense that the bible claims he did.
