Is that supposed to be a bad thing? Christians are not entitled to shove their believes down other people's throats. That is against the law and is immoral.

he told them "i can't take your money, and we don't do anything for free.the men filed a civil rights complaint and won, awarded $5,000.

Did leaving the "Org" ruin scary movies for you?
by jeanniebeanzz inmany 'scary' movies base their 'jumps' on a belief in the supernatural, demons etc.
since i have left that all behind, ther aren't many 'scary' movies that even make me uncomfortable let alone scared.
lol.

I don't think the WT influenced my like or dislike for specific movies, nor my reaction to them (after I left). In fact, in the 80s I watched a lot of movies that i wasn't supposed to watch, and that influenced my decision of leaving. I think it was the other way around.
I find some horror movies are more funny than scary, and some just not my taste (the ones with bloody body parts everywhere). I like demonic horror, but not violent horror. Always did both when i was in and out of that organization.

Bad Association: what were your experiences with being labeled this as a young JW?
by Jason Melita inplease share your experiences with being labeled as "bad association".
i was labelled with limted and distasteful association after i was caught smoking pot at school with some of my friends ( i am not condoning drug taking as a teenager, drug experimentation if possible should be kept until after you have finished developing into adulthood) thanks and look forward to your stories........

I was considered a bad association for most of my JW life, which was from when I was born up to my early childhood. I remember people talking crap about my "bad behavior" when I was about 9. Most of the times they talked among themselves about me without letting me know why, so I never knew the specific excuse they used for the label.

I agree with NewYork44M. Normally a few contribute and the rest have the right attitude, I mean, don't contribute.

The J.W fishpond of marriage mates! How many of us married a idiot!! No choice.
by Witness 007 inwhat a horror.

What a horror. Instead of there being "more fish in the SEA" our marriage mates came from the small and crapy Witness pond. Anyone got burned by going with Mr or Mrs you will have to do?
I guess than in a away I was the crappy fish in the witnesses pond. I had a JW girlfriend out of people in the congregation pressuring me, stupidly believing that somehow having a girlfriend will make me forget that I am gay. I'm still baffled about the rationale behind it, but whatever. I had a JW girlfriend and a not-so-JW boyfriend at the same time. To me it was just a matter of choosing whichever girl, as my congregation was full of single desperate women more than happy to lower their standards for a JW man.
I had the decency of breaking up with her and starting the process of fading soon after, so she had the chance to choose another fish from the crappy pond.

Did your congregation rehearse service meeting parts?
by compound complex ini was just thinking back to some parts i conducted.
when other publishers were involved in the part, its success often depended on how well rehearsed the participants were.
timing, proper interplay of dialogue, dramatic impact, etc.. as the one giving the part or as one drafted to do a demo, did your elders require rehearsals?.

In some instances I remember that being the case, but not all the time. Some times I remember my father going out to rehearse some parts, and my mother too, though my mother never stuck to any script.

Counting time
by Emma ini may not have put this in the correct spot, but i do think it's scandalous the way time gets counted now.
i've seen a cart at the edge of our farmer's market, never anyone close enough to talk.
yesterday was a drizzly day and there were two carts set up, covered in plastic, "witnessing" on their own.

I'm actually all for it. JWs have plenty to deal with all the WT nonsense. It's good that they have some slack.

Campaign to invite people to meetings
by StarTrekAngel injust found out last night that our congo is starting a campaign to invite interested people to meetings.
the instructions for the campaign clear out that "interested" people are not just those whom we visit often or have bible studies with.
it includes and random stranger we may talk to and who may show a hint of interest on the religion.

What am I missing? How is that campaign different from what they always do?

WT 1/2017: "Why is the Bible sometimes misunderstood?"
by Schnufti inthe bible is designed to be understood by those who are humble and willing to learn.
jesus said to his father: “i publicly praise you, father, lord of heaven and earth, because you have carefully hidden these things from wise and intellectual ones and have revealed them to young children.” (luke 10:21) the bible is written in such a way that only those with the right attitude would understand its message.
people with a proud attitude—a common trait of “wise and intellectual ones”—tend to misunderstand the bible.

What would you say to JWs as an answer to the claims in that article?
The same that I say to everything else they claim: useless nonsense.
As for the bible, I agree that the entire concept of having a bible is nonsense too, especially considering when and how it was compiled.
Not only the bible is an old, obsolete and useless book, but there are many people like me who don't need a book to know to be a decent human being.
