What am I missing here? Why it's such a big deal when they build a new KH or sell an old one?

SCOTLAND: Livingston Kingdom Hall
by darkspilver ini think this deserves it's own thread, so as not to get mixed-up tl;dr - go to the bar charts at the end...picking up on jambon1's comments:.
the one in the op - livingston, was a merge to the newly built assembly hall in the same area.
i think three congs share that building now.. nice wee scoop up of the cash from the sale of livingston and whitburn.

Social gathering on December 25th
by StarTrekAngel ini remember clearly the many times that in the past they have insisted on not showing their faces out in the street on this day.
i am exaggerating.
but i mean they've always insisted on being out and about very early on christmas day... preaching.. most elders in my congregation believed this was the best time to preach since most people were celebrating a religious holiday.

I can not help to think that they have seen this idea of keeping up appearances has failed. Most neighbors won't even bother to notice that there is a feast next door and most brothers and sisters would spent December 25th with their non-JW relatives otherwise. Then excuse themselves off as "we are just spending time with family. We did not hang the decorations, they did". Social media has probably exposed most of them and so the elders probably figure is better to give them another place to be on that day. Do this for a couple of years and then prepare a talk in which you scold those who prefer worldly company over spiritual company and guilt trip them.
That's actually one of my most traumatic experiences as a JW child. I had to go house to house seeing all my classmates having fun with their new toys. Such loving thing to do to a child (I'm being sarcastic, just in case).

Elders getting burnt up.
by biblexaminer inthe elders in this area are getting burned out.
i have overheard comments that demonstrate this, but in my dealings with them, i clearly see it.
they can't keep it straight.

Its a weekly thing. Everyday a new surprise. But all pointing to the same conclusion, elders getting burnt out. Too many balls to juggle
That actually makes me feel sad for them. This is the result of them feeling that it was "a privilege" and something worth striving for, and now they are realizing that such "privilege" has been just coercion into doing free labor for the WT. They are the ones doing the dirty work for the WT and get absolutely nothing in return.
Sad to see them burn out of something that produces nothing for them.

Kingdom Hall Sell-Offs - 2 Defunct Phrases Now
by The Searcher in1) when a newly built k.h.
is dedicated, the sheep are told that the building "will be a great witness for jehovah.
the opposite must now be true - when they get rid of it to accumulate cash, they must now be "un-witnessing for jehovah.".

Not really. Nothing new. Starting with the same catastrophic pathetic view of the world, talking about war, etc, then moving on to "hope", blah, blah, blah. Same candy different wrapper.

The JW governing body are all overweight, creepy looking little men
by jambon1 inhaving seen a few of these tv productions and some youtube clips of their assembly parts, how can jehovah's witnesses really take these silly little men seriously?.
you take one look at them; their overweight, fat little bodies.
their entirely shabby, overhanging suits.

by Thisismein1972 income on a believer, everyone knows it was you so own up to it and teacher will not be cross!.
this is exactly what seems to be happening, a believer runs in drops the stink bomb and runs out again...only to pear around the door when he/she deems it safe to do so.

It's not my responsibility to change you're guys opinions I'll leave it to Jehovah to judge when he's ready. I'm just going to keep enjoying life and wait on it because I sincerely do believe it's close. The president that was just elected and all the other signs make it convincing to me.
Yet, you seem to always want to have the last saying every time. If you truly, feel that it's not our responsibility to change anyone, then why are you here? There are plenty of forums and spaces for active JWs and ex-JWs who still want to be JWs without being JWs. Why are you here, then?
I respectfully ask no one replys to my post with copy and paste from JW facts and YouTube videos. I've already looked over them and my stance is set. You all keep you're beliefs and I will do the same TY.
You don't get to tell us what to say or how, period. This is not the KH, this is not a congregation, no one here has to obey anyone for as long as they abide the forum rules. You can include the word respectfully in your statement, but what you expect is not a respectful thing. Be clear about that.
Thisismein1972, you're right! It does stink.

2 questions about Warwick
by Gorbatchov ini have two questions about warwick.
see the picture included.
1) at the other side of the lake you see other buildings.
-
scratchme1010
1) At the other side of the lake you see other buildings. Is it correct that this is an IBM headquarter? I read this somewhere. If so, the WT is in good company, isn't it?
Not sure, I now that IBM was once located in Sleepy Hollow, NY (yes, such place exists) and they moved from there. So it's not far fetch that IBM may still be in a low tax area.
2) Will all buildings and houses in Paradise be grey?
I hope not. My guess are two: I see a lot of grey being used in architecture. Seems like it's a thing of the moment. Also, the color makes the buildings "discreet". I'm sure they don't want unnecessary attention.

Sisters running microphones?
by NikL inso our sunday meeting was on the 25th (christmas) and my active jw wife and i were out of town enjoying some family time with relatives.. apparently there were many others in our congregation that missed as well.
so few were there in fact that sisters ran the mics.
(actually it was a sister running one of the two mics) a friend of my wife commented to her about how the brothers just aren't stepping up and it "makes her want to cry.

Anyway, I had never heard of that before and was wondering if anyone here had?
You took me way back when I remember a sister running a study because the only adult male present refused to do it. Other than that, I never heard of it.
