Does Christianity Promote Self Hatred?
Yes.
i think that christianity's teachings pose a very unproductive world view and are a danger to our survival.
their teachings that man is sinful and worthy of death and in need of a savior to rescue him and free him of his sinful tendencies or else feel the wrath of god.
these things that condemn man as sinful are his own powerful drives given to him at conception which he now must deny due to indoctrination and consign to his shadow(jungian).
Does Christianity Promote Self Hatred?
Yes.
it's not enough that we simply raise empirical challenges to these iron age beliefs saying, "jesus didn't really rise from the dead" or "muhammad didn't really fly to heaven on a horse.
" we must also give no quarter to this falsehood that religion can give peoples lives real meaning.
the truths about our identity, experience, and the future impacts that our decision will have on the world around us are much deeper and more profound than any culture or religion.
We must also give no quarter to this falsehood that religion can give peoples lives real meaning.
And who the fuck are you to tell anyone what they must or must not do?
back to my favourite pet hate of "labelling", ie, someone has such and such an opinion so consequently he must therefore be a part of this or that particular group.
what tosh.
(btw, i've decided that it's ok for politicians to be labelled.
Interesting thoughts. Question, what about people who feel ok with their labels? I know people who have no problem with them. I personally can't care less what people call me, so I don;t pay attention to labels one way or another, but some people do call themselves atheists, racists, whatever they call themselves. What do you make of those people?
And it's interesting that people tend to criticize labels when they are being labeled something.
my dad died of a blood clot as a result of surgery late last year.
to say that his death created a bottomless void in our family is an understatement.
i think about him every day, sometimes constantly.
Thank you for sharing. Just want to pay my condolences.
i would really like to read the thoughts of an creationist as they lie on their deathbed.
their honest thoughts.
their terrors.
You again? Ok, once again, who the fuck are you for me to even bother addressing you?
we all know how the society likes to say that they alone "dispense spiritual food from jehovah" through the f&ds / gb.
the claim was that from russell's day, the society alone is gods channel.... so that got me thinking.... if they dispense spiritual food, yes spiritual nourishment to all witnesses, that clearly implies that all the past wrong teachings, and incorrect doctrines and practices must not have been "nourishing spiritual food" right?.
in effect, they were just like parents that order a fast food drive through "meal" to keep the kids happy and fill the hole in their tummy.. yes, rather than providing a well prepared and healthy nourishing meal, a quick-fix junk food fill was sufficient.
...they are simply ramping up the dispensing of junk food!?!
If you ask me, it's all "processed food", if you know what I mean.
LOL!!!!
Good one!
cults and terrorism: can we establish parallels between noxious belief systems?.

Seems like the author borrowed a few ideas from others. Interesting article, but I find it somewhat biased. Her commentary about the JWs and the definitions seem to want to bias the reader for the information that follows.
i remember one of the nights that i found out the truth wasn't the truth, that is after finding out about the united nations, i remember riding my bicycle from like 1am till 5am in the city night.
it was rather chilly, maybe about 55-60 degrees and i was playing pink floyd's dark side of the moon album in my earbuds.
just riding and riding, not really tiring because of the thought that 7 men in brooklyn had duped me, duped me for like 20 plus years.
Thank you so much for sharing. I'm sure that like you, there are others lurking and reading and maybe thinking critically for the first time in their lives.
All the times I used to cringe when someone on this site would say that they are a cult, I thought, no, don't have to go that far. But now after 4 years I have nothing to say but yes, if you study the whole religion and really pay attention to everything, you too will see that they are indeed a cult.
This, in my experience, has been a rather common occurrence, and not only with JWs, but with the public in general. There are many misconceptions about what cults are, so many people react when they use that label to identify any group that they belong.
I'd suggest to research more about those groups and how they are, as there are different types of cults, there are different levels of harm that they cause, and there are also different types of things that people have to recover from. That can help you gain more perspective (that is, if you still need to).
i was at a mall trying on shoes and this old man is in a wheelchair near me.
says how he thought those shoes were sharp and he had never worn brown shoes before and that he is 104 years old.
i said no way and asked what year he was born.
I haven't heard of any cult or any legitimate religion that doesn't get in trouble every time they try to predict the end of the world or some kind of drastic change.
In fact, the cults with the shortest longevity are those "Doomsday" cults, those that attach dates and have people "prepare" for the end or for some kind of drastic event that ill happen.
The WT keeps trying to explain things away, and of course, none of it makes sense (because it's all just top notch bullshit since the beginning). However, the WT has been masterful in doing a few things right. One is not giving a specific date, "it's around the corner". Another one is conditioning their people to believe whatever crap they throw at them, so they don't need to be logical or right since they know that most-to-all their followers will just believe it.
They are also preparing for their religious demise.
