Massimo Introvigne will never win a math competition.
Why the borg would get involved with a vampire loving con man is no mystery. Flirting with spiritists is a favorite pasttime of "Jezebel" types like the GB, and so many of those head guys at Bethel love to play pattyfingers with pyramidology or numerology or biolas or other things Jehovah hates.
It's also not a mystery that the borg can't do math for beans. The 1914 doctrine doesn't add up. Not surprising this Massimo guy actually ends up proving himself to be a liar in his own article.
He claims the problem of abuse in JWs isn't nearly as bad as in the Catholic church and then he gives a bunch of numbers regarding Australia.
The thing is, the numbers he provides prove the very point he is trying to refute.
(I am not a mathematician, so please check my work and let me know if I did these calculations wrong...)
He says "the Royal Commission mentioned 4,444 claims against the Roman Catholic Church for 35 years and 1,800 allegations reported by the Jehovah's Witnesses for 65 years."
If you take Massimo's numbers and loosely find a yearly average of reported abuse that means...
About 127 Catholic reports per year.
About 28 JW reports per year.
According to one internet source...
Today about 5,075,000 (20% of entire population) of Australia is Catholic.
Today about 67,000 people in Australia are JWs.
Thus the rate of reported abuse per religious population group would be like something like this...
127/5,075,000 for Catholics = 0.000025
28/67,000 for JWs = 0.00042
Now to get an idea of whether or not the victimization rate is higher in the borg, let's take the population of Australia today...
About 26 million...
If every person in Australia was a Catholic and abused at the average yearly rate in the Catholic church, then 650 people would be abused this year.
If every person in Australia was a JW and abused at the average yearly rate in the JWborg, then 10,920 people would be abused this year.
To summarize, that's:
650 Catholics
versus
10,920 JWs
Who has a bigger problem with rate of abuse? JWborg.
(I think maybe some sociology professors like Massimo Introvigne don't do well with true and false questions or math tests or writing believable fiction. I guess you get what you pay for when you hire a liar to do your dirty work for you.)
jehovah's witnesses weren't jehovah's witnesses until 1931.until that year the people who had been hard-headed followers of end times false prophecies by william miller and seventh day adventists, more or less settled into following charisma-ballyhoo preaching by folks like "pastor" c.t.

What is the definition of a doomsday cult?
You can find various definitions on the internet. Here is one of them:
"A doomsday cult is a new religious movement or cult that says that the world is about to end. According to these cults, there will be a catastrophe." (SimpleEnglishWikipedia)
If you go by this definition, my first serious indoctrination with a doomsday cult was in middle school (I was not a Jehovah's Witness until later in life - at present I am disfellowshipped and banned from attending locally). I joined "Future Problem Solvers", an after school club with members gleaned from science classes who were told they had to be the active next generation that would takeover the affairs of the world and learn how to solve problems created by hundreds of years of selfishness. Additionally, the "science" classes told that someday the sun was going to explode and burn the earth with fire, unless a meteorite hit first and caused mass death, or a nuclear catastrophe.
I was terrified as a young person because of these stories told by evolutionary atheists.
You can say what you want about the WTBT$. They do a lot of really bad things and bring reproach on God's Name, and I do not support their heinous activities or false doctrines. But I don't think that pointing the finger with the accusation "You're a doomsday cult!" is either productive or accurate. They are a cult in different ways, but the "doomsday" thing isn't the right adjective. At the end of the day, Jehovah's Witnesses recognize that God will preserve the earth and some of humankind, which is a lot more than the evolutionary atheists are willing to acknowledge. Evolutionary atheists teach that the entire earth will be destroyed and all life on it.
The borg is not accurate about all the ways God will handle things - the borg makes distinctions that are not accurate according to the Bible and the way we see God's personality reflected in His Son, Christ Jesus. But the Bible itself is not "doomsday" to the degree evolutionary atheism is "doomsday".
I can understand that when people have been hurt by the borg they have wild talk and all - I've done my share - and I am confident Jehovah will set things straight and expose all the heinous things religious hypocrites in the borg are guilty of. But I think there are better "insults", if you will, than the "doomsday cult" thing, unless the evolutionary atheists want to be accused of "the pot calling the kettle black." Just saying.

Hi @Linda14🙂
(1) If the city isn't an empire, then why does the God's Word says she has a kingdom over the kings of the earth? Do all the kings of the earth reside in one literal city?
(2) There are other issues going on before the heavenly court that we don't have all the details about. Job, Daniel, and Revelation all depict heavenly courts. Just as we don't know all the details of the court cases in earthly courts when we are not at the hearings or in the judicial chambers, so we are not aware of all the details of what is going on in those heavenly courts.
But regardless of what Jehovah's reasons are for waiting, His ways are always righteous, and we can have confidence that He always does the right thing, and that He can and will fix everything.
(3) Amen, salvation is by Jesus. Jehovah's salvation is not dependent upon whether or not we are part of certain human institutions.
(4) Yes, God does miracles every day!🌷
@roadtonowhere...Haha! That's true, they do twist His Word and try to "put words in His mouth" that He never said!
He'll make it known how He feels about all the stuff the borg (and others) keep wrongly accusing Him of...
"Jehovah will go out like a mighty man.
He will awaken his zeal like a warrior.
He will shout, yes, he will let out a war cry;
He will show himself mightier than his enemies.
“I have kept quiet for a long time.
I remained silent and restrained myself.
Like a woman giving birth, I will groan, pant, and gasp all at once.
I will devastate mountains and hills
And dry up all their vegetation.
I will turn rivers into islands
And dry up reedy pools of water.
I will lead the blind in a way that they do not know
And cause them to tread on unfamiliar paths.
I will turn the darkness before them into light
And turn the rugged terrain into level land.
This is what I will do for them, and I will not abandon them.” (Isaiah 42:13-16)
Jehovah has been so patient. "Jehovah's Witnesses" have claimed that Jehovah supports so many things that in all actuality He hates, things He never directed to be done "in God's name". Since many Jehovah's Witnesses are blind and just following the blind, Jehovah knows which individuals to save, and He won't abandon those ones when it is the time to pass judgment on the all organizations that are reproaching His Name (starting with the ones that claim to represent Him by name, "Jehovah's Witnesses.") The angels of the congregations will help all those individuals who Jesus directs them to help, wherever they may be found. God is not partial.

"dissertation - a long essay on a particular subject, especially one written as a requirement for the Doctor of Philosophy degree"
Here is something the WTBT$ does that is not in harmony with scripture: making special "schools" (Elder School, Pioneer School, Branch School, Bethel School, whatever...) the same way the scribes and Pharisees did, and claiming that a person is uneducated in God's ways unless they have attended such schools. (There are "Pharisees-type" people who are not in the WTBT$ who also adhere to this kind of thinking...) It is not wrong to go to a school. Education is a good thing. But it is the assumption that a person cannot understand or preach or be close to God unless they attended a specific seminary/monastery/GileadSchool/university/etc. that is a fallacy.
Jesus did not attend any of those places. Neither did the apostles.
Jesus had something to say about those who wanted to "teach" for their own glory's sake...
"They like the most prominent place at evening meals and the front seats in the synagogues and the greetings in the marketplaces and to be called Rabbi by men. But you, do not you be called Rabbi, for one is your Teacher, and all of you are brothers."
“Beware of the scribes who like to walk around in robes and who love greetings in the marketplaces and front seats in the synagogues and the most prominent places at evening meals, and who devour the houses of the widows and for show make long prayers. These will receive a more severe judgment.”"
What is the difference between a teaching session by Jesus and a "dissertation" by a scribe?
"When Jesus finished these sayings, the effect was that the crowds were astounded at his way of teaching, for he was teaching them as a person having authority, and not as their scribes."
"and they were astounded at his way of teaching, because he spoke with authority"
"When the festival was half over, Jesus went up into the temple and began teaching. And the Jews were astonished, saying: “How does this man have such a knowledge of the Scriptures when he has not studied at the schools?” Jesus, in turn, answered them and said: “What I teach is not mine, but belongs to him who sent me. If anyone desires to do His will, he will know whether the teaching is from God or I speak of my own originality. Whoever speaks of his own originality is seeking his own glory; but whoever seeks the glory of the one who sent him, this one is true and there is no unrighteousness in him."
Jesus spoke from the heart and he knew what he was talking about. Jehovah's holy spirit gave him words of truth and power. His motive was to glorify God. When he opened his mouth, he shared the good treasure of his heart.
The scribes (who sought their own glory) spoke from the other end, and they were full of it.
Jesus told us he would give us what we need when we need it.
"...the helper, the holy spirit, which the Father will send in my name, that one will teach you all things and bring back to your minds all the things I told you."
"...I will give you words and wisdom that all your opposers together will not be able to resist or dispute."
(@lastmanstanding, - your math doesn't add up.🙂 I Herd what you said, but I think maybe you'd better Splane it for us because your theory sounds kinda like that 1914 overlapping generations thing - a make believe story.)

the bible says not to put trust in men who cannot save.
So, the WTBT$ says Abraham is part of a "class" or "group" that will never hang out with Jehovah personally.
Here is what the Bible really teaches...
Abraham already hung out with Jehovah personally. Abraham wasn't anointed. Abraham wasn't even baptized. Abraham didn't even know about Jesus. Abraham fought in battles and killed people. Abraham had sexual relations with another woman besides his wife. And yet Abraham was Jehovah's Friend.
Genesis 18
"Afterward, Jehovah appeared to him among the big trees of Mamʹre while he was sitting at the entrance of the tent during the hottest part of the day."
This wasn't a "vision."
"He looked up and saw three men standing some distance from him. When he saw them, he ran from the entrance of the tent to meet them, and he bowed down to the ground. Then he said: “Jehovah, if I have found favor in your eyes, please do not pass by your servant. Please, let a little water be brought and have your feet washed; then recline under the tree. Seeing that you have come here to your servant, let me bring a piece of bread so that you may refresh yourselves. Then you may go on your way.”"
Abraham was talking to Jehovah. It wasn't just an angel. The other two guys were angels, but Abraham recognized Jehovah. Abraham knew it was Jehovah coming to visit in a materialized body. (Can the One who designed the eye not see? Can the One who designed a body not build a body to visit in? Come on, people, why does it seem so impossible for Jehovah to do the extraordinary? It's right in the book...)
"At this they said: “All right. You may do as you have spoken.” So Abraham hurried to the tent to Sarah and said: “Quick! Get three measures of fine flour, knead the dough, and make loaves of bread.” Next Abraham ran to the herd and chose a tender and good young bull. He gave it to the attendant, who hurried to prepare it. He then took butter and milk and the young bull that he had prepared and set the food before them. Then he stood by them under the tree as they were eating."
So Jehovah ate with Abraham, just like later in a similar way Jesus ate with his friends -after Jesus died and then was resurrected as a spirit creature then Jesus materialized a body so he could eat with the disciples. A spirit person can materialize a body and eat with people.
"They said to him: “Where is your wife Sarah?” He replied: “Here in the tent.” So one of them continued: “I will surely return to you next year at this time, and look! your wife Sarah will have a son.” Now Sarah was listening at the tent entrance, which was behind the man. Abraham and Sarah were old, being advanced in years. Sarah was past the age of childbearing. So Sarah began to laugh to herself, saying: “After I am worn out and my lord is old, will I really have this pleasure?” Then Jehovah said to Abraham: “Why did Sarah laugh and say, ‘Am I really going to give birth even though I am old?’ Is anything too extraordinary for Jehovah? I will return to you next year at this appointed time, and Sarah will have a son.” But Sarah denied it, saying, “I did not laugh!” for she was afraid. At this he said: “Yes! You did laugh.”"
If Jehovah can raise the dead, if Jehovah can make it so an old lady can conceive, then certainly Jehovah can eat a meal with his kids on earth. That's a piece of cake in comparison.
"When the men got up to leave and looked down toward Sodʹom, Abraham was walking with them to escort them. Jehovah said: “Am I keeping hidden from Abraham what I am going to do? Why, Abraham is surely going to become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth will be blessed by means of him. For I have come to know him in order that he may command his sons and his household after him to keep Jehovah’s way by doing what is right and just, so that Jehovah may bring about what he has promised concerning Abraham.”"
Abraham was just a lowly guy. He was living in a tent. He was out in the wilderness a lot of the time. But Jehovah knew exactly where Abraham was, and Jehovah told him a lot of cool stuff about the future. Jehovah hasn't changed. Jehovah knows where His friends are, even when they are out "in the wilderness" of this world somewhere, seemingly not part of any city or congregation of people.
"Then Jehovah said: “The outcry against Sodʹom and Go·morʹrah is indeed great, and their sin is very heavy. I will go down to see whether they are acting according to the outcry that has reached me. And if not, I can get to know it.” Then the men left from there and went toward Sodʹom, but Jehovah remained with Abraham."
The account about Sodom shows that the other two angels proceeded to visit Lot, but Jehovah stayed and hung out with Abraham for awhile longer. The Bible says God made man in His image. Man is made in God's image. The reason we enjoy the earth is because Our Father enjoys it. He made us like a chip off the ol' block. We were designed to hang out with Him in the garden. (That's part of the sacred secret.)
"Then Abraham approached and said: “Will you really sweep away the righteous with the wicked? Suppose there are 50 righteous men within the city. Will you, then, sweep them away and not pardon the place for the sake of the 50 righteous who are inside it? It is unthinkable that you would act in this manner by putting the righteous man to death with the wicked one so that the outcome for the righteous man and the wicked is the same! It is unthinkable of you. Will the Judge of all the earth not do what is right?” Then Jehovah said: “If I find in Sodʹom 50 righteous men in the city, I will pardon the whole place for their sake.” But Abraham again responded: “Please, here I have presumed to speak to Jehovah, whereas I am dust and ashes. Suppose the 50 righteous should lack five. Because of the five will you destroy the whole city?” To this he said: “I will not destroy it if I find there 45.” But yet again he spoke to him and said: “Suppose 40 are found there.” He answered: “I will not do it for the sake of the 40.” But he continued: “Jehovah, please, do not become hot with anger, but let me go on speaking: Suppose only 30 are found there.” He answered: “I will not do it if I find 30 there.” But he continued: “Please, here I have presumed to speak to Jehovah: Suppose only 20 are found there.” He answered: “I will not destroy it for the sake of the 20.” Finally he said: “Jehovah, please, do not become hot with anger, but let me speak just once more: Suppose only ten are found there.” He answered: “I will not destroy it for the sake of the ten.” When Jehovah finished speaking to Abraham, he went his way and Abraham returned to his place."
Do you like talking to your friends? Jehovah is cool. He's easy to be around. Jehovah knows where the right-hearted ones are in all the earth, and He won't destroy right-hearted ones. But He will destroy the wicked institutions that bring reproach on His Name and hurt people.
There are right-hearted ones in the borg still, and Jehovah knows where they are. There are right-hearted ones outside the borg, and in other religions, and non-religious right-hearted ones. Jehovah knows where all of them are, and He will do the right thing. He's Jehovah. If He was friends with Abraham before Abraham was baptized and when Abraham was still a warrior type sleeping with a woman who wasn't his wife, then Jehovah will certainly take into account the cultural issues of our day and peoples' circumstances and read hearts and figure out what is righteous.
Anyway, when the WTBT$ says that Abraham and "the great crowd of other sheep" or whoever won't hang out with Jehovah because "only the anointed 144,000 in heaven will hang out with Jehovah", the WTBT$ is full of baloney. Jehovah was in the garden walking with Adam and Eve. He'll be walking on the earth again with His kids. He's the Best Dad.
"Is anything too extraordinary for Jehovah?"
i remember when i was "in" the org.
had a ridiculous public talk outline defending the genesis flood myth.. do they have a current one doing that ?.
"Then he said to his disciples: “It is unavoidable that causes for stumbling should come. Nevertheless, woe to the one through whom they come! It would be more advantageous for him if a millstone were hung from his neck and he were thrown into the sea than for him to stumble one of these little ones!"
"The really sad part is..."
The really sad part is that the GB/FDS/PhariseeTypeReligiousLeaders have stumbled so many of Jesus' little sheep.
Jesus will "resurrect" the faith of all the stumbled little sheep at the appropriate time, but it won't go well for those GB/FDS/PhariseeTypeReligiousLeaders...
"And a strong angel lifted up a stone like a great millstone and hurled it into the sea, saying: “Thus with a swift pitch will Babylon the great city be hurled down, and she will never be found again.""
Just as the Flood reached to the ends of the earth, so the flood of judgment against all false religion will also clean out the false religion in JW-land.
"For just as the days of Noah were, so the presence of the Son of man will be. For as they were in those days before the Flood, eating and drinking, men marrying and women being given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, and they took no note until the Flood came and swept them all away, so the presence of the Son of man will be. Then two men will be in the field; one will be taken along and the other abandoned. Two women will be grinding at the hand mill; one will be taken along and the other abandoned."
Jehovah knows those who belong to him, and He can distinguish between a hypocrite and a non-hypocrite. The sincere little sheep who are sighing and groaning over the detestable things going on in false religion are precious to His heart.
The PhariseeTypeReligiousLeaders? Not so much.
"For her sins have massed together clear up to heaven, and God has called her acts of injustice to mind. Repay her in the way she treated others, yes, pay her back double for the things she has done; in the cup she has mixed, mix a double portion for her. To the extent that she glorified herself and lived in shameless luxury, to that extent give her torment and mourning. For she keeps saying in her heart: ‘I sit as queen, and I am not a widow, and I will never see mourning.’ That is why in one day her plagues will come, death and mourning and famine, and she will be completely burned with fire, because Jehovah God, who judged her, is strong."
luke 23:43 - and jesus said to him, "positively i say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.
nwt places comma here , giving a totally different meaning to the verse.
now the average jw uses this to back their doctrine and it seems in itself virtually impossible to reason with them on it.
The Jewish scribes muddied the waters when they introduced convoluted thinking and Greek philosophies and attempted to mix them with the scriptures. The Jewish scribes made it more difficult for people to understand Bible truths by teaching fancy-sounding philosophies, but Jesus said even a kid could understand the truth because it's simple.
"In that hour the disciples came near to Jesus and said: “Who really is greatest in the Kingdom of the heavens?” So calling a young child to him, he stood him in their midst and said: “Truly I say to you, unless you turn around and become as young children, you will by no means enter into the Kingdom of the heavens. Therefore, whoever will humble himself like this young child is the one who is the greatest in the Kingdom of the heavens; and whoever receives one such young child on the basis of my name receives me also."
"Paradise" is like the Garden of Eden. It was a place on earth, not in heaven. There is no paradise right now, but there will be again in the future.
Living in heaven while your loved ones are in pain on earth is not "Paradise". Jehovah God and Jesus are not currently in "Paradise" in heaven.
Living in some underground bunker or metaphysical realm or second hellhole or otherworldly waiting room is not "Paradise" either. It's not paradise if you are separated from your loved ones in some other realm.
"Paradise" cannot exist until death, the last enemy, has come to nothing.
(When you're in Paradise, you won't have to ask, "What is Paradise?" or "I wonder if this is Paradise?" or "What do you think Paradise is?" because you'll know you're there. Nobody is in paradise right now. The Bible shows that the people who have died have no knowledge of anything - except for Jesus who was resurrected and then went to heaven. Jesus has been resurrected to heaven, but he will visit paradise in the future when he walks the earth again and it is a paradise after the 1,000 year reign.)
luke 23:43 - and jesus said to him, "positively i say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.
nwt places comma here , giving a totally different meaning to the verse.

So that guy uses the same techniques to cover the cracks in his logic as the WTBT$ uses to try to cover the cracks in the 1914 doctrine logic.
The truth is way simpler.
